The elections in Saxony and Thüringen were a slap in the face for the parties that govern Germany. The market-liberal Free Democrats (FDP) have been reduced to an irrelevant micro-party in both states. The Greens were banished entirely from the state parliament in Thüringen, and barely clawed their way over the 5% hurdle in Saxony. The Social Democratic Party (SPD), meanwhile, posted their worst results in each state since reunification – outdoing even their dismal 2019 showing, which in Thüringen especially even I did not think was possible.
presently in the middle of returning from long holiday in the Swiss alps, trying to finish buying a house, and dealing with all the other stuff that accumulates when you've been away for a month. posting may be light throughout this week, but I will do everything possible to keep the lights on here. thanks for bearing with me.
Yet Switzerland is on the statistics one of the safest countries in Europe. Funny, isn't it ... and its defence policy of 'armed neutrality' costs 1.2% of GDP while NATO bleats on and on about the need for its members to spend 2%, 2.5% or even 3%.
Maybe too our host would do an article on how Switzerland apparently got through the 'COVID period' with (somewhat) less grief than Germany (or Austria). Thanks.
> Marshmallow Minister Nancy Faeser, fearing another electoral slapdown, caves to opposition, agrees to implement basic border checks to stem uncontrolled migration to Germany
But... doesn't that make her a HORRIBLE FASCIST?!?!?!?!
What a last minute WAIT WAIT WE'VE CHANGEDDDDDD panic response, eh? A bit pathetic and too late, isn't it? If these people got voted back in, what are the odds these umm proposed boarder changes mysteriously get rolled back or never implemented, etc.
the odds are extremely high. even the CDU – who are currently playing tough cop on immigration and probably forced Faeser to cave by withdrawing with an ultimatum from migration talks last week – will surely go back to Merkel-era wir-schaffen-das lunacy as soon as they're back in government coalition with the Greens in 2025.
Sounds like the same playbook Kamala Harris is using in the USA. After leaving the border open for 3 years, she is suddenly talking tough on security and even a border wall. No one trusts what she would do if she is actually elected.
Right, leaving the border open and now blatantly lying about never really being "border czar" but only determining "root causes" of mass migration issues. Well she WAS czar, never accomplished anything, and never figured out root causes. Total failure.
Beyond a total failure. She and Sundown Joe dismantled Trump era controls and have done their damnedest to import millions of illegals. The CDU in Germany has every reason for cynicism, as do Republicans in the USA.
More like three and a half years. If Americans and Germans fall for the sudden, temporary, tough border posturing, perhaps we both deserve what we will get. Do Germans exhibit a lot of blind party loyalty, like America’s democrats? Do Germans realize that their Minister Marshmallow would, in most ways, fit right in with a senior-level NAZI management team?
It won’t be that easy to dismantle decades worth of NGOs and bureaucracy built to circumvent normal processes to vet immigrants. These people want to keep rolling in the money and to continue being more virtuous than the rest of us… Excited about your move!
'"It's important to realize that Germany's ruling coalition exemplifies the kind of post-democratic and post-national politics that are becoming increasingly common across Europe, whereby political parties don't derive their authority and legitimacy from popular consent but rather from the global transatlantic EU-US-NATO establishment", Fazi said. "They know that by sticking to the globalist agenda they will be compensated once their term in office is over, so maintaining domestic consensus becomes less and less important", he added.'
Yesterday at our weekly croquet match, somebody actually said the government won't ask Elon to rescue the two stranded astronauts because he won't ban hate speech on Xwitter.
I love my friends. But it will be cold comfort, probably even fruitless, to be able to say "I told you so" after four years into Kamala's presidency.
I live in a remote isolated location, where we have our own local water source. Ever since moving here I've heard it jokingly said there are plans to dynamite the only two routes of ingress in case of an apocalypse.
That is interesting and akin to the military industrial complex jobs that await top U.S. military officers upon their retirement. The lobbying industry is likewise incestuous with Congress. Beware all 'NGO's. They are paid government agents.
I too have this view. A way for billionaires to run countries.
The effect they are having on European nations is disgraceful. But since many are funded from foreign sources stopping them would be a simple act of legislation.
She say she will, but will she really? I think she'll do what has been done here in Sweden since the election:
Lots and lots of talk and claims of the government having tightened up things at the border, deporting criminals, stopping the invasion of fraudsters (+95% of migrants claiming asylum seeker-status lie) and so on.
But in actuality? Pretty much nothing at all.
I suspect Faeser and her handlers will do something similar: talk about what they are going to do, and not ever getting anything done.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a permanent and effective border control on that huge, wide, deep, natural border known as the Mediterranean Sea? How difficult can it be?
Then maybe we could do away with showcase "see, we are doing something!" controls on some entry points of some of the internal European borders.
Meanwhile, Springfield, Ohio, USA, poulation 58,000, is struggling with an influx of 20,000 protected status Haitians aliens who are proceeding to eat the animals in the park, from the yards, from the streets even though they receive food & shelter from Biden/Harris. My tax dollars at work.
Oh, don't you know that's fake news, spread by Trump, Vance, and Ted Cruz. These migrants are a much needed addition to the community, and the town government is delighted they have settled in their community. Of course, the MSM fails to interview the actual residents of Springfield.
During the Covid years, I ran out of insults for our political leaders, hacks, and the expertocracy. I resorted to comments about stupidity, nonsense, the stupidity of stupefaction, and even the stupor of their stupefaction. I was repeating myself. One escape from a complete mental breakdown was subscribing to several substacks. They help with articles thinking about what’s really going on and interesting comments about the analysis.
One unexpected benefit is the revelation of a rich fund of insults about the lunacy. Today’s, “Intensely dumb marshmallow,” is a keeper.
The CDU is no longer "centre-right", and hasn't been for many years, except formally in the parliamentary sitting order. Merkel managed to rob them of every last ounce of C-R, which was the trademark of her predecessor Kohl. She brutally backstabbed and eliminated him and his political heritage. Ever since, the CDU has been neither Christian nor Democratic but a variant of Green and woke. For the sake of clarity, we should stop calling them C-R, or even CDU. Maybe "Greens 2.0" would be more fitting.
Greens now leading war mongers, because Trump derangement syndrome = Putin derangement syndrome. They are blind with hatred for men with leadership qualities.
I don't think they're spineless. Or at least only spineless. I think they know exactly what they are doing and intend the results. They are, simply, evil.
The only way it, or anything like it, is coming back is through the red ruin and anarchy these leftists and globalists are forcing on us daily. And that won't be pretty at all. Many, perhaps most, of us won't make it.
I understand the sentiment, but the UK still has way, way more non-Islamic people than those who follow Islam. We have our work cut out, but mass deportations for illegals has to be one of the measures used.
Starmer knows full well that this unelected court will put him in exactly the same corner, so he'll do some nice PR stuff and that'll be it: no actual changes.
The problem isn't the number of people. It's the (relative) numbers of people making new people. Governments are staring down the barrel of a gun loaded with sub-replacement TFRs. At least with the scimitar-laden fecund, the West stands a (fat) chance of getting away with only a few minor cuts...
Do leftists/globalists/eco-nutters realise it'll be their lives too? If you ain't got money, forget it. No private jet? No holiday for you! It'll serve 'em all right.
The new people can only make more people if they stay. If these new people cost the UK tax payer £1 billion a day (yes, £1 billion a day) they need to be sent back. Period. Work and pay tax, or get out.
they’re targeted operations, not one-size-fits-all like passport control. i’ve repeatedly crossed the already-controlled borders in east/ south germany (switzerland, poland, austria), without any delays or hassle. but, i don’t have car and i don’t drive, so i don’t know about that aspect.
I crossed poland about 3 weeks ago and the line was about 20km going into Germany. on the way home I got off the Autostrada and went through a small border town making my trip over an hour longer but probably saving 5hrs. also Kufstein entrance has been bad for years.
Motorists traveling through Arizona have long been subject to long queues that pop up anywhere in the state on any highway for immigration checks. Of course, we could simply build a wall on the Mexican border but anarchists (and their useful idiots such as Catholic Charities and government paid NGO's) undermine such a sensible solution at every turn. It has been this way for at least the past two decades. It is completely insane and yet prevalent.
Europeans love the Schengen policy broadly and the oligarchs are counting on popular opposition to passport or ID checks. And remember, the whole point is to undermine your political voice and power.

take your time ! we will be waiting after you have moved into the new house ! Happy moving. Well, as far as that goes LOL
Take your time, do what you gotta do, this isn't life or death! ;)
Not yet anyway, lol, getting closer though.
Do stop by and see us next time (Valposchiavo Kt. GR)
The Swiss love firearms as much as Americans. Even Americans wouldn't tolerate a rifle range that literally directs fire over a busy freeway.
Yet Switzerland is on the statistics one of the safest countries in Europe. Funny, isn't it ... and its defence policy of 'armed neutrality' costs 1.2% of GDP while NATO bleats on and on about the need for its members to spend 2%, 2.5% or even 3%.

a house in Switzerland? or local?
Super great, I hope you enjoy the new place. Packing and moving is so fun.
Do you have to clear out for new owners or just waiting to sell?
Good luck.

Your life sounds exciting. What an adventure. Kudos on being able to purchase a home
Life goes on!
All the best for a smooth completion of your house purchase.

Well Kamala does have a history of leaving things wide open
You sir have won the comments
Beyond a total failure. She and Sundown Joe dismantled Trump era controls and have done their damnedest to import millions of illegals. The CDU in Germany has every reason for cynicism, as do Republicans in the USA.
More like three and a half years. If Americans and Germans fall for the sudden, temporary, tough border posturing, perhaps we both deserve what we will get. And OH MY! This economy is SO GREAT NOW!
It's time for a rate cut by the Federal Reserve JUST IN TIME, RIGHT BEFORE THE ELECTION!
(They DO believe we are that stupid.....)
But much of the electorate is that stupid.
The average IQ in the U.S. is 97; and falling.
It's mind boggling to think that half of the U.S. people have IQ's of 97 or less.
No wonder many kids need velcro to tie their shoes.
Where did that statistic originate? I thought the average was 105-110. Maybe the Covid shots damaged our brains.
It's the one our Socialist Democrat party has been using since 1970s.
Spend 3/4s of the term making life difficult for normal people, then protest against their own policies during campaign season.
You will eat demoralization and like it.
It won’t be that easy to dismantle decades worth of NGOs and bureaucracy built to circumvent normal processes to vet immigrants. These people want to keep rolling in the money and to continue being more virtuous than the rest of us… Excited about your move!
> what are the odds these umm proposed boarder changes mysteriously get rolled back or never implemented
Ooooh! Ooooh! Is it "100%"?!
Thought this was interesting.

Edit to add the quote:
'"It's important to realize that Germany's ruling coalition exemplifies the kind of post-democratic and post-national politics that are becoming increasingly common across Europe, whereby political parties don't derive their authority and legitimacy from popular consent but rather from the global transatlantic EU-US-NATO establishment", Fazi said. Utterly frightening and believable. How do we stop it though? The average person seems almost comically uninformed.
People still play croquet?
People of a certain age, at least ;)
By that stage you'll be too busy avoiding the cannibal gangs, assuming you survive the Water Wars, lol.
I live in a remote isolated location, where we have our own local water source. Ever since moving here I've heard it jokingly said there are plans to dynamite the only two routes of ingress in case of an apocalypse.
A wise precaution.
That is interesting and akin to the military industrial complex jobs that await top U.S. military officers upon their retirement. The lobbying industry is likewise incestuous with Congress. Beware all 'NGO's. They are paid government agents.
In the last few years I've come to view NGOs as a cancer on society.
I too have this view. A way for billionaires to run countries.
The effect they are having on European nations is disgraceful. But since many are funded from foreign sources stopping them would be a simple act of legislation.
Almost every Western government needs to be overthrown (PEACEFULLY) so we can implement centrist commonsensical policies
My only quibble is with your use of the word "almost"...

In today's political world, optics trumps reality.
With the onset of post-modernism and relatedness comorbidities, perception is reality.
It works the same way doing drugs does: as long as you have money, you - personally - have no problems.
Mere words trump reality. Or truth.
I thought that's what I said ;)
Although they act a bit tough for the show, it is clear that all parties, except the AfD, are willing to die on the hill of migration.
(The CDU may talk a bit differently, but we must not forget that it was the CDU that opened the floodgates)
Sie können das schaffen.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a permanent and effective border control on that huge, wide, deep, natural border known as the Mediterranean Sea? How difficult can it be?
Then maybe we could do away with showcase "see, we are doing something!" controls on some entry points of some of the internal European borders.
Oh, but we are so weak and powerless in the face of NGO's funded by anarchists.
Can't Germany just wait until Faeser is out of the country and then not let her back in?
Meanwhile, Springfield, Ohio, USA, poulation 58,000, is struggling with an influx of 20,000 protected status Haitians aliens who are proceeding to eat the animals in the park, from the yards, from the streets even though they receive food & shelter from Biden/Harris. My tax dollars at work.

The wind has changed.
From your mouth to God’s ear.

Great re-purposing of the original quote!
Salad greens? Wilted salad greens?
Might be too late to stop Sharia law and a slow but steady Muslim takeover of the country. Western society as we know it is a thing of the past.
It's far from too late. But with each passing year the price of winning our civilization back gets steeper.
Maybe it can come back. Maybe our spineless amoral politicians will do enough - by accident or design - halt the drift to oblivion.
I don't think they're spineless. Or at least only spineless. I think they know exactly what they are doing and intend the results. They are, simply, evil.
If they had a spine, these people would look us in the eye and tell us everything. The Managerial Klass don't. They hide.
The only way it, or anything like it, is coming back is through the red ruin and anarchy these leftists and globalists are forcing on us daily. And that won't be pretty at all. Many, perhaps most, of us won't make it.
with AfD in charge it can be done, look at Britain that is now practically an Islamic state
I understand the sentiment, but the UK still has way, way more non-Islamic people than those who follow Islam. We have our work cut out, but mass deportations for illegals has to be one of the measures used.
Rishi had a plan for that until some unelected court told him he had to stand in the corner. Leaving him powerless.
Starmer knows full well that this unelected court will put him in exactly the same corner, so he'll do some nice PR stuff and that'll be it: no actual changes.
This is similar to the old saying: To a battle of wits, he comes unarmed.
In Starmer's case: In response to a weak challenge, he unilaterally disarms.
Sunak did likewise.
That's what happens when politicians are more frightened of a bunch of unelected and unaccountable 'judges' than of their own people.
It is up to each of us to disabuse them of that notion.
Starmer is on the same team as the court. It provides convenient cover for him to keep the borders open.
Consider what goes on in the mind of Greta Thunberg.
There's your answer.
The new people can only make more people if they stay. If these new people cost the UK tax payer £1 billion a day (yes, £1 billion a day) they need to be sent back. Period. Work and pay tax, or get out.
"IF they stay?"
Yu fonny!
There's always a better economic opportunity to carpet bag. Yu sooooooooooo foooooonny!
As someone that crosses the land border weekly this will be very annoying

as you say the kufstein situation has long been notorious, also dumb because alternate routes remain totally unguarded.

Put the "refugees" on a plane and send them to Martha's Vineyard, I heard the residents love to help people impacted by climate change...
