I guess forbidding merchants from selling knives will at least deter the forgetful lunatic types who meant to bring their own but forgot

Henry's avatar

It is outrageous that the government had no second thoughts about banning knife sales in Solingen, the home of high quality knives known around the world. It is like banning shipbuilding in Groton, or salt water taffy in Coney Island.

Demeisen's avatar

Destroying old traditions, local industry, etc, is all par for the course for these globalist pricks.

Far-left candidate RFK Jr. just quit his presidential campaign and threw all his support to Donald Trump's campaign. The populists just got a boost from the anti-establishment left. There is hope for us. This is the way it should be.

Martin Liehs's avatar

Not sure if you are being sarcastic in describing RFK Jr as being "far left". He is a classical liberal centrist (or "far right" in today's lexicon).

CStone's avatar

He is far left. All demonRATS are far left. The only thing he isn’t far left about is vaccinations.

And, in spite of ALL the evidence proving the RATS to be evil, he still thinks (like a child) that the party ‘changed, over time’.

So yeah. He’s far left.

Martin Liehs's avatar

I would argue that RFK's view on the Ukraine war are spot on. His landmark speech from a few days also called out the collusion between "Big Ag" (corporate farming), "Big Food" (highly processed food derived from corporate farms), and "Big Pharma" (selling the solutions to chronic illness brought forth from processed foods). He also suggested a link between the above and the gender nonsense. I am no lefty, but I think that these are critical societal interests to all that the Dems are not talking about.

Lastly, don't forget that President Trump was also a Democrat donor in the not too distant past.

voza0db's avatar

The DNC is far-right... so he can only be far-left!

CStone's avatar

The dnc is demonic. Far-left and in. Downward trajectory to hell (I hope)

Steve the sailor's avatar

He is a liberal, no doubt. He is not a leftist. He is smart, well read, hard working, and consistent. He has at least as much integrity as any politician and attorney can have. His speech was spot on across the board and will go down in history as one of the greats. There was so much honesty in his speech that they will certainly amplify his virtual (character) assassination/vilification, facilitate his actual assassination, and certainly continue to impose the "virtual death" that is imposed by blocking his access to the mainstream media outlets. I welcome his engagement in virtually any capacity his is permitted. There is no damage to the institutions that he threatens that can bring them any lower than their current status- they can sink no lower. I can think of nobody else with the knowledge, courage, conviction, and fortitude to bring down and possibly rebuild the houses that currently ooze toxic slime into our country and our world.

Dave's avatar

So thick with irony, this attack. Pathetic.

Quakeress's avatar

SPIEGEL, I think, reported that one shop that sells knives has decided to remove them from stalls at festivals.

elsterbirb's avatar

Solingen is famous for its knives and finely machined metal blades. This regulation will merely injure local industry / local business without doung anything to deter stabbings.

carily myers's avatar

agree. Ban screwdrivers (esp Phillips head), ban ice picks, ban claw hammers. SMH we are ruled by total idiots.

Someone said that they will likely charge the German victims with dulling his knife.

INGRID C DURDEN's avatar

I remember that our knives came from Solingen. Isn't there a knife and scissors factory there? or is that long gone and now all made in China?

Dr. K's avatar

It is still the source of some of the best cutlery anywhere. But now they will make sure the city dies with its core industry by banning the sale of the goods that provide the primary reason for traveling there. And I'll bet the perp did not even use a Solingen knife (I have several sets myself) -- they are too expensive to waste on things like murder sprees. The only people who EVER suffer from this stuff are we the people -- NEVER they the politicians or they the perps.

CStone's avatar

The politicians probably paid the guy to do those, just so they could ban the knife industry.

Beanz-meanz Heinz's avatar

Change it into a pitchfork factory.

Ryan Gardner's avatar

What they are trying to "stab" is our will. They want us to believe there is nothing we can do about it.

They want our will withered to apathy; that is exactly how the few end up with dominion over the many.

They will crash that ship into the reefs a thousand times over until people realize that all these lies are to protect the Biggest Lie; that you are so alone you can't speak truth.

To lose that lie is a loss so threatening that they will crash us asunder until there is nothing left but splinters to wash ashore.

"They will crash that ship into the reefs a thousand times over until people realize that all these lies are to protect the Biggest Lie; that you are so alone you can't speak truth."

Very well put.

For them, Orwell's "1984" is a how-to manual, not a warning.

At times like this, I like to comfort myself with the soothing words of US Army Chief of Staff Gen George Casey following the jihadist shooting spree at Fort Hood TX in which Maj Nidal Malik Hasan murdered 13 and wounded 29 others:

“As horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think that’s worse.”

John O’Flaherty's avatar

With generals like that who needs enemies?

Sadly, par for the course in a country whose uber-woke top general freely admitted to treason, knowing there would be absolutely no consequences:

"During multiple secret phone calls, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley promised China’s top general that he would warn the communist nation of an impending attack from the United States"

SCA's avatar

I've been waiting for your post since I read the Daily Mail article on this; you should have seen my face last night at the descriptive "Festival of Diversity." It was helpful to me, reading that newspaper piece, to know who people like Nancy Faeser are.

Only life experience teaches you about life. I was eager for diverse experiences when I was young. It was living in a place not the US that taught me the crucial importance of those savagely-derided Western values our less-experienced citizens and citizen-leaders are therefore incapable of understanding. People are alike all over in the basics of human nature, but what attempts to channel our natures into the means of constructing a civilization is entirely the perspective of culture. There are cultures of elevated ideals and cultures of brutal tribalism. They are not mixable.

INGRID C DURDEN's avatar

I remember long ago, when Jimmy Carter was president, that he was smeared for saying that some countries are not ready for democracy. I think he meant what you just say here.

SCA's avatar

I would put it a little differently.

No one really truly in the fastnesses of their own hearts likes democracy. No matter who you are, you don't want the morons on the other side to have power over you. You want power over them, or at least to thwart them sufficiently so they cannot cause any degree of havoc in your own life.

How any culture deals with a faction or side or considerable number of similar-minded people being out of power is the crucial factor. Being scornful and contemptuous and trying to win the next time is one way of dealing with disappointment and anger.

Running around hacking to death anyone suspected of being on the "wrong side" is not regarded as acceptable in the West, though assassinations of the focal point of rage do seem to be a not-uncommon concern.

Human nature is everywhere. Enlightenments are always being snuffed out by it. But at least valuing the ideals and wanting to restore them is a measure of a people's national character.

Colin Hunt's avatar

I agree. Winston Churchill once remarked that "Democracy is the worst of all political systems, except for all the others." What we see in various First World nations now is the notion of democracy, tolerance of others and acceptable political behaviour breaking down.

carily myers's avatar

agree totally, some cultures just are incompatible with others.

Colin Hunt's avatar

Agreed. Some cultures had practises that the rest of the world found utterly abhorrent. These including things like cannibalism or the Indian practise of Sati in the 19th century. Ultimately these practises were so horrific to most of human experience that they could only be stopped by executing the offenders.

hd scha's avatar

Just been re-readng about the Aztek practice of extracting living hearts, which Cortez piously used to justify his killing spree. And robbing in the name of his king and country...

When I read about this last night on X, I could almost hear Eugyppius penning a response. It's one of the only good things about state and media dunce-craft: watching it being ripped to shreds by Eug..

Bootsorourke's avatar

same feeling here, including the "I can't wait to see what Eugyppius does with this.” Sarcasm and daylight may save us, along with memes.

James Riley's avatar

"...Obviously what is killing people is not the imported and to-be-celebrated diversity from the global south, but rather these sharp objects that for some reason never gave us any problems before.."

WHY are these pointy things suddenly getting so dangerous?? LOL.

Dr. K's avatar

But you will note Eugyppius is getting increasingly agitated and increasingly scornful -- at least that is my impression having read him since his very first post. If this is all finally getting to him, perhaps he will have some thoughts as to what we all can do about it. I keep dinging him about applying his much-more-profound-than-mine mind to potential paths forward -- with luck he will eventually get so irritated he turns that way. We are all ears here.

Joy Filled's avatar

Steam being released in a positive fashion from an excellent writer is welcome.

What to do? These problems can not be solved by mere humans. Alas, humans don't want to hear this no less act upon it. I've decided to pray, yes...to the God of Creation. I pray for peace in my heart, protection and ask for (then act) on opportunities to encourage others throughout day, every day. But, nahhh... God? Did no one tell the Muslims the West got rid of God decades back. The West exchanged any reverence for God for a lie of perverse diversity and tolerance.

Humans can not stop this accelerating decline into the abyss. We are in the divine comedy.

Essentially agree but isn’t ‘live and let live’ and ‘leave me alone’ the same concept?

Ryan Gardner's avatar

It is. It's like watching a bride being jilted at the alter. Quite pleasurable to watch, actually.

MarcusBierce's avatar

I think you meant “cheating bride” or some such. The comeuppance has to be well-deserved.

Kurt's avatar

Totally agree with your disdain for "our" (not mine) politicians, only that I always think "Who voted them into office?". The voters could, no, should have ended this shitshow at least since 2015, but they didn't; instead, they asked for more. The AfD, which I vote for since its foundation, never got more than, dunno, 15% nationwide, and that even when the party was more appealing to moderates than it is now. It should have had a share of more than 30% after 2015, but people decided that no, immigration is not important for them, so they get what they vote for. Everyday everybody is closing his entrance door behind himself, sinks into his couch and feels safe, thinks "Ah, cruel world outside, lucky that I'm at home"; and lives well as long he gets his salary, his rent, his "Kindergeld", his "Bürgergeld" on his account on the 1st of the month. So, in my opinion, nothing will change; in the contrary, with every attack (remember Mannheim? no, forgotten already) people get more accoustomed to these incidents and care even less. Change will only come when the voters themselves suffer on a big scale, like mass unemployment and economic hardship. Not before. So, yes, I have run out of pity for people, victims, voters.

Spiff's avatar

I agree. Personal hardship will change things. People are terrified to be mean.

The only comment here that makes sense. I too ran out of sympathy for the "new age european". Democracy is a threat to my life, i'd rather see things return to a very orderly dictatorship than let these lunatics have the power to vote.

Or climate change — summer has been hot in Europe, hot temperatures are associated with more murders, therefore climate change has “fueled” these murders.

Phil Davis's avatar

The leaders of Germany who supported immigration have blood on their hands and should be jailed for putting the citizens of Germany at risk. These leaders have failed, and their unwillingness to admit their failure is no different than the inhumanity of the Nazi regime demanding allegiance to their failed policies. How many must die before enough of the German population come to the same conclusion? Or will some trigger evolve that throws the country's emotions over the limit, as in Great Britain?

Spiff's avatar

You don't understand the mindset you are up against. It isn't failing because it is a bad idea. It is failing because of you. Your comment perfectly illustrates the problem. There would be no problems if bigots like you were locked up and kept out of the way. You are failing THEM. You are failing the West. You are the problem.

Every calamity, every stabbing, every young girl abused by a foreign man is a failure of you to embrace our multicultural future. It is your small mindedness and hate that makes this happen.

This is how they actually think. The stabbings are proof they need to come down harder on normal people. They do not trigger reflection or doubt. That is not how mental illness works.

Only a robust response that ignores their delusions will fix this. A very robust response.

AndyinBC's avatar

The robuster the better!

Phil Davis's avatar

Yeah right ,see above. Do as we say or die. The usual response from tyrants.

Spiff's avatar

Or the mentally disturbed, as many of these people are.

Phil Davis's avatar

Let me explain how stupid, utterly inane your comment is—you see, nowhere in history has multiculturalism worked. Why? Because people or groups want to maintain their own identities and cultures. Not even members of Islam can live together, they have different factions. In Europe, people still are mad and hate other countries and groups because of atrocities that were committed against them hundreds of years ago. The people of Europe don't forget or forgive past wars or ethnic cleansing. For example, fathers in France forbid their daughters from dating men from Germany. They tell their daughter to remember what Germany did to us.

The only place where different cultures could blend is the USA, and again, why? Because America was a brand new place, it did not have a history of hatred from one side of the continent to the other. Additionally, everyone learned and used English. How many French girls marry German men? Only a few, but here in America, we call our heritage German/French or Italian/English. Everyone who came off the boat learned English; otherwise, they could not succeed or live the American dream. This is why we are called the melting pot.

What is happening in Germany is a forced integration that no one wants. The Muslims are not going to accept German culture—they want to take over Germany and make Islam the new culture. If you didn't have such doltish theories about me, you could understand this concept.

Alas, Germans are getting what they voted for. And the votes are not too distant from the 1930 tyranny.

The government's first mandate was to protect its citizens, but German and American leaders purposely failed. They are letting mass migration destroy each country's culture. The very purpose of having a government is worthless.

Spiff's avatar

Indeed you missed my point. I was reflecting their views. I agree, multiculturalism has never worked anywhere. It always leads to widespread violence.

Even America is now collapsing because too many too quickly who do not share America's values. The center cannot hold.

The future for all European nations is warfare at home. All of it was avoidable, and still is. But people learn the hard way.

Tardigrade's avatar

I think maybe you misread Spiff's comment, overlooking the sarcasm.

Kat D's avatar

You are describing America prior to 1965. Everyone had to integrate into the English based culture. We are now a salad without enough dressing to hold it together rather than any melting pot.

Ryan Gardner's avatar

You are both right btw...you're just passing each other.

If you guys were having beers together you'd be laughing until you woke up with a galactic hangover.

Justin's avatar

When one of the leaders is killed, then we might see something.

Phil Davis's avatar

For sure, but by whom? I'm thinking not by immigrants; politicians have security, we don't. Historically, immigration, especially during times of economic downturns, creates extreme civil unrest.

NoraDG's avatar

After New Year’s Eve 2015 in Cologne, I naively thought things would change. It was the first time things became so clear on such a large scale, impossible to hide from the general public or to sell as individual actions by “confused” men. But alas, here we are, almost 10 years later…

“When I was younger, I reacted with autistic impatience to news of terror attacks and stabbings like these; I reasoned that, statistically, they were not a significant cause of death and should be ignored.”

Me too. I used to respond to attacks in Britain by pulling up the longer list of terror attacks perpetrated by Irish republicans, and smugly asserting that British people didn’t generally make a big fuss about those and simply got on with their lives.

Maybe so, but they shouldn’t have had to deal with bombs planted in their cities and assassination attempts on soldiers, police and the Prime Minister. And now they shouldn’t have to deal with foreigners running around stabbing people in the neck.

TR's avatar

I used to have the same autistic response to terror attacks in the UK. At the time it felt like I was being hyper-rational and somewhat contrarian, which I’d feel smug about.

It’s amazing even in the last 10 yrs how coverage has completely changed - back then at least the media seemed to report on the actual nature of the crimes.

Spiff's avatar

The media have chosen their side. Their choice was quite unwise given the way things are going. Increasing numbers look elsewhere for information. They will come for Substack soon I suspect.
