That thing which we feared and which we knew would come, has happened: On 2 September, Gazprom turned off Nord Stream 1 entirely, citing an irreparable oil leak in the remaining functional turbine. Germany will now have to substantially reduce gas consumption, or face a severe, perhaps months-long energy shortfall in the Spring.
