It's all amazing and incredible. Germany, the UK, and too much of the "developed world" is well into Orwell territory. If Orwell had foreseen the internet and the NGO censorship industrial complex, perhaps he would be writing your blog. Keep your head down, but keep writing. I didn't see very many "No Kings" protesters, and certainly almost none who's hearts were in it. It seems to me most were paid to be there for a couple of hours for a drone photo op ("oh look at the huge crowd") and then they went home.
You mentioned electricity in passing but it is very real that the electricity in Germany could fail . They already pay three times the rate of the USA.
Germany is short on wind mills .I hear the dutch have some mills to spare ,they could be moved to Germany to solve the electricity shortage and expense .If that fails ,Russia has a way to light up Germany ,it seems the Germans are asking for it .
Belgium just reported that part of the oldest wind mills have to be replaced. I think they are about 15 years old. Surprising how short lived these things are, I wonder what the cost-benefit balance of these things is? And have they got a way to recycle them? or do they go to the garbage. Pretty big.
No, they are unrecyclable and must merely be buried forever, where their toxic components have the opportunity to leach into ground water.
Wind machines cost more energy and money to build and service than they will ever generate in their short lifetimes; they must be heavily subsidized to even be erected, and will need tax subsidies forever.
This is what's "green"; the gullibility of those who believe in wind power.
The Dutch wind mills I'm writing about are at lest 300 years old .They are made of oak wood and will last forever . They may even sell surplus electricity to Russia if Germany has too much of it . I may even buy a dutch wind mill for my own use ,unless they are sold out by then .
ah yes those. I lived in Belgium, not too far from the southern Dutch border, and have seen those mills. Some are still in use to mill flower. Most are just historical landmarks. Not sure if you can buy these things, probably will have to build one yourself. I have seen a couple water mills in Belgium and also here in the US. But of course, then you need streaming water.
Tesla plans to make battery powered wind mills .No wind needed to run them . They also plan for every house to have it's own wind mill ,powered with batteries ,next to the electric car .
Tucker Carlson just advertised a generator. It is on the costly side, but I certainly have been thinking of a wood stove for the winter, just in case. Thankfully I have been watching some Azerbaijan family who live almost completely off the grid.
As the owner of a wood stove I highly recommend them Five stars. The natural gas prices in Texas of all places got stupidly high, so in 2023 we installed a stove in the living room and it's already paid for itself in savings on propane. It has a huge viewing window so it also stands in for a fireplace, which we didn't include in the build but should have. Yes, it's tedious to go to the woodshed for more logs, but we stage them in the garage on a pallet so it's just a 1x/week process. Having logs in the house can be stressful if you're OCD about dirt and the visuals (logs clash with the decor), but that's really the only drawback. With a box fan to help distribute the warm air down the hall and around the corner, the single stove does a good job keeping the entire house warm. That wouldn't be the case in a colder climate, but we're in Texarkana and it's adequate even in January and February.
burning wood to generate heat is much more polluting than natural gas or electricity, but it is a reasonable response to avoid ridiculous policies that make the cleaner fuels too expensive.
Funny thing: the Dutch speaking northern part of Belgium has been forbidden to use wood as a source of heating. The French speaking part of Belgium is encouraged to use wood stoves. Does anybody see any logic there?
That was our take. We would have used it just for the occasional cold nights and days, but instead it's the primary heat source in the winter. The tech exists to have small modular nuclear reactors on every block, the ultimate green energy, but here we are. Next stop: cooking over dung fires.
thanks for the tip ! we are in middle Georgia, so should not be too different in climate. Heating on electric here, no gas, and in a forested area. Still considering it!

Do a little of your own research, figure out what energy you need to run your house during an emergency and plan for that instead of assuming some media person has your best interests at heart.
oh I won't, but it has crossed my mind, specially since we got hit last year with hurricane Helena, although on the outskirts. 4 Days without electricity was not much fun, but 4000 bucks for a machine you might need once in 5 or 6 years is just too much! If I had been in good shape, but it just hit us when both myself and my dog were sick! otherwise I surely would have built a small fire on the open spot in the yard and cooked on it, like I have seen the Azery people do so often. At least we learned to keep plenty of water at hand!
You can buy a perfectly adequate generator that will power your appliances (but not a stove or hot water heater) for a few hundred bucks. $4K should buy you a whole house gennie system and very few need that.
I have been looking into solar panels for the water pump and may be some appliance in the house - but my handyman does not know how to do that. The only ones I located were to small to fuel anything but a cell phone and I can load that anywhere.
In a sane world German Government would be under pressure from all manufacturing interests and labor to demand the USA pay to have that undersea gas pipeline from Russia repaired, and until it is completed and gas is flowing back into Germany the USA must subsidize the cost difference from other sources.
That entire thing was irrational unless the Goal was to cripple German manufacturing and create great hardship and death to German population. I did hear that the USA was actively recruiting German manufacturing corporation to relocate so .. that part can't be all the reason, especially since the German Elite and their Puppet politicians seemed okay with it. Maybe they all knew earlier enough to position their families and their wealth to benefit from it.
Still, I have be think even the Russian powerful families benefitted somehow. If I were in charge of Russia I would require or actually make happen (with warning) a damage of equivalency, perhaps all the bridges between NYC and NJ and the golden gate destroyed .. and let's all die in nuke fire if I hear a F-ing whisper complaint about it.

Yes, it seems it was only regionally that the electricity failed. BUT often underreported are the instances like this recent one in Frankfurt Main: Tagelanger Brand in Frankfurter Kraftwerk: So ist der Stand der Löscharbeiten. „Außergewöhnliche Lage“ – 100 Feuerwehrleute bei Brand in Kohlekraftwerk.
We all can imagine what happens if the electricity fails for a day or three. Chaos and plundering of Supermarkets and you don''t want to live in a high rise building in a City. The Gov. recommends u store basic food and other essentials for at least 72hrs or in other cases up to 3 weeks as if a potential war would save the population. Well, Merz is currently discussing to build Bunkers in Germany. Do People even know what the Air Raid Alarm Signals in September meant. Hide underr a Table or run to your SAFE Bunker. It's utter madness.
At least some of us have had hurricanes come over and have survived days, some even weeks, without power. We were on the outskirt last year and had 4 days outage, but a town nearby was without power for several weeks.
Humor is great leaven, some light in the darkness--but on a serious and strategic level, it is sorely needed as a weapon. Everyone from Juvenal to Erasmus to Jonathan Swift to Gustave Le Bon to Flann O'Brien to Vladimir Nabokov to Vonnegut to the latest memester and Babylon Bee have understood the corrosive or dynamite power of laughter--and hence the iron insistence on no humor at all. This is not the first case you have reported on in which a leftist uses "forbidden words," gets called on it by a non-leftist, and only the latter is ever prosecuted for using the words . Germans themselves do not notice this pattern?
Some of us do. The (considerable) portion of Germans who still draw information from large mainstream news outlets and not from alternative media are unaware of the issue. Neither Die Zeit, nor the SZ, or indeed the public broadcasting service (except for BR, I think?) have published anything on this preposterous misuse of state power. Others, like t-online, faz or der spiegel have hidden their articles within their website structures, nowhere close to the front page - I especially enjoyed faz's placement: Front Page > Feuilleton > Media and Film > Media Politics.
Hear ya, and for most of them it is easier to get older than to get "wiser" and keep in mind that the first rule of Bureaucracy is to protect the Bureaucracy...at all costs !!!!!
Hate speech legislation and its affects will of course push more voters familiar with the facts towards the only party offering liberty. (No reason to state more that is already obvious.) This is the silver lining. Cause and effect.
There’s no righting the ship anyway I’m afraid. No fuel, no economy and Putin says he’ll never go back to selling cheap reliable pipeline gas to Europe. (Especially Germany which has proven to only be hostile.) I won’t speculate as to the future, I’ll just sound negative.
In large part that was enabled by the lack of regulation and entrenched bureaucracy. The right people were in place at the right time. I always hold out hope.
"leonid breshnev" elsewhere: "Well, Merz is currently discussing to build Bunkers in Germany. Do People even know what the Air Raid Alarm Signals in September meant. Hide underr a Table or run to your SAFE Bunker."
Looks like remembering WW2 is becoming all the rage.
Sadly with women's voting a major factor laws like Hate Speech and other 'protection' laws will always grow more dangerously retarded, like the demands that the harmful Covid masking always used, regardless of facts, increase harms, know uselessness against viruses, and they will continue until early young child is speech retarded and psychologically harmed for rest life because they couldn't see adults lips and their fear-broken-minded mother's face was a stranger to them.
.. but as long as we pretend one less person got sick - the mask laws were worth-it.
Yea, maybe 1 out of 10 voting women actually try to reason with information and critical thinking, the rest are feelie knee-jerk dangers to nations and peoples.
Okay, fathers that haven't been divorced raped and children and home taken from them and father taken from children are likely 18 out of 20 are a benefit in voting if we really have a system that are truthful, just, well-ordered, honest, ..
The fact is that only adults that have displayed years of service to nation, community, families, and people needing assistance should become full citizens; voting, run for Gov offices, work for gov, sit on juries, and the other positions of power and responsibility and no more grasping self-centered lying mind-broken genital-driven actively ignorant and proud of it, impulsive, delusional, psychotic, .. no more of the avg women and to many men that are a short-term and-or long-term danger to self and others get to threaten us and our families with their votes and being on juries and ...
Studies have shown clearly that women value imagined genital-feelie safety over Truth, Justice, good Order, that sane people value. the hyper-empowered mind-raped walking death to babies, families, sanity, ...
.
.. but don't get going.
F-ing Prohibition should made clear what a nightmare Dark Hell is Called when any women without merit or virtue gets any power. What! Murder another of my baby daughters on another whim - will you! Your too dangerous and scary to be near, never mind mating with.
Well Steve that was quite long with lots to address.
I will tackle, from my own perspective, a few of your points.
When you talk about “women voting” and hate speech laws becoming “more retarded” I assume you are speaking of female parliament or legislators. The general public doesn’t vote on such things.
As far as 9 out of 10 women providing only “feelie kneejerk danger,” I might have agreed with you in the 1970’s.
Now I will include about 8 out of 10 men with that in big cities, and about 2-3 out of 10 men in rural areas. Feelie might include excess bravado due to insecurity from low levels of vitamin T or simply ignorance.
What I’m notice is frighteningly widespread- an inability to reason across the board. No can parse. No one takes a logic class so even when their spider sense tells them something is amiss they can’t quite put their finger on it. The scientific method exists only in a book. No one has the ability to think empirically. People are lazy and above all, dishonest.
If you really push hard you will eventually get the admission from them that the ends justify the means. It really matters not what the subject is. Open borders, “gender,”“protecting Israel,” war, or even abortion.
Chixbythesea, you should be allowed to vote, but otherwise I have to agree that most should not. They are quick to vote for any empathetic seeming man with nice hair, no matter how dumb his policies or what 2nd order effects will occur.
My thoughts, too. You don't want to be a Police officer these days. The old German slogan, Polizei dein Freind und Helfer has lost it's haydays back in the 70s. Now they're more like Mercinaries from Columbia fighting in Ukraine.
How do the police feel about being the tools of this repression? They are human beings, not ignorant of history, and aware of their role in society, presumably. Who becomes a cop in today's Germany? I am an American living in Frankfurt, and all the Polizei that I have seen have been impressively professional (though their presence on the street is very sparse compared to a city in the US).
Germans pay 3X the rate of the USA for electricity.
In 2025 they have deported a whopping 15,000 people ( 84 MM population ) while still admitting other non Germans . Soon German identity will be muted and Germans will adapt to a lower standard of living
Why is perplexing is …Why ? ..the wounds are self inflicted ..
The median German has a higher standard of living than the median American. Less financial stress related to health. Higher life expectancy. Free higher education. And better employment protection. Germans also are very sensitive about Nazi phrases and have laws against them. Makes sense given history.
Stop coping, please. Germany has succeeded in undermining its own economy to such an extent that more Poles are now returning to Poland than are departing for Germany, a development that no economist anticipated.
This has been the law since WWII and through all of it Germany prospered. Given how freedom of speech is kicked down the curb in this country right now, not sure you have anything to be proud of either.
Unfettered freedom of speech was used by the Nazis to get into power. They lied about civil unrest, vilified Jews, socialists, communists, disabled, Roma, etc. through speech they created an environment they could use to enforce martial law.
Professor of Media Science, huh? It's like the researcher playing around with them caged mice and then one of 'em unfortunately gives him anthrax.
In relation to this story I particularly enjoyed one of your X posts this morning. Always glad when my contempt for various people is shared by the guys I admire.
Be careful Eugy, if “they” can do this to Bolz, they can do worse to you for something you did (3) years ago.
Poor Germany, at least with the Stasi or KGB you knew what you were dealing with. This nebulous combination of faceless NGOs and bureaucrats is insidious. Be careful. Real free speech is so important.
The younger generation (starting with millenials) don't know much about it (or anything else). But for the older Germans there is still a lot of knowledge, it was a very well researched subject. In effect a whole industry has formed.
Until the 2000s or so there was a lot of historic objectivity and frutiful argumentation involved. After all, it probably was the first time such a quick descent from a prosperous Republic into barbarous dictatorship was so well documented.
And numerous famous intellectual discussed their role objectively. E.g. one of the most famous chancellors, H.Schmidt, was in the SS as a young man, and it was discussed in context.
Only recently has it become such a religion, which resulted in ignorance and forbidden knowledge.
Yes. It is here probably worse than in the USA: it is used as a slur against everyone not fully with the left aminstream, but the term "Nazi" still means something. Though much less now, it has been overused too much too long.
QUOTE: ... G.Grass, beloved German author. He was in the SS.
It appears that Grass was even awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. To be fair, he served in the "Waffen-SS," parts of which were essentially regular military units. However, even that kind of involvement would presumably have been anathema to those around him in the literary and cultural world in the post-war years. Grass did not admit his SS involvement until 2006 by which time he was well established, and the Internet had made it harder to hide his past.
GRASS'S RECORD WILL HAVE BEEN WELL KNOWN TO THE U.S. AND ALLIED GOVERNMENTS THROUGHOUT, but mysteriously, the information never leaked out when it was newsworthy and could have destroyed his prestige.
It seems reasonable to conclude that as a useful tool for the shaping of post-war European culture, Grass will have received clear, express "guidance" at regular intervals as to WHAT TO WRITE, AND WHAT NOT TO WRITE. The "guidance" was likely channeled through the "Congress for Cultural Freedom" or a similar CIA cutout.
As "Use of symbols of unconstitutional and terrorist organisations" is forbidden, does the government provide a reference list of such symbols so that people can be sure to avoid them?
Good point. It's always good to know which phrases are forbidden (for your ideological enemies) so that you don't inadvertently turn into another Hitler by using an innocent phrase like Alles für Deutschland or Alter Kampfer
I know an organization uniquely qualified to assemble and enforce such a list. They're Danish instead of German, but I suspect they will be happy to help. Plus, they're kid-friendly!
I have recently learnt so-called 'AI' is based on Large Language Models. All of the USA versions have sealed systems that do not show how the algorithms work, what factors are used and so on. The China version does.
The mass data search is done via specialised or - worse - generalised AI.
It is easily deflected due to obscure or incorrect teaching / core data - with incorrect statistical probability information.
So, while targeting the professor could well be malicious, the use of AI to capture anyone who might transgress will be based on flawed logic - Chat GTP, Claude, Gemini - which needs ever increasingly complex searches (and much, much more energy) to yield ever poorer answers.
Law enforcement has to go back to evidence based prosecution rather than 'thought' crime.
AI is a remarkable tool that can generate impressive results if you know and avoid its weaknesses. I've used it successfully for tasks like analyzing Chinese grammar through to generating code in Python, and I'm only scratching the surface.
The decision to set AI the task of trawling for National Socialist slogans is made by humans for their own political reasons. And most germane to the discussion, the decision to overlook results when the words come from leftists, while prosecuting critics of the left, even when they merely quote leftists - that is entirely a human and political choice.
In fact, AI is most unlikely to be of use in inventing new means of political persecution. In the case of the sleight-of-hand over the slogan-phrases, the bureaucrats and NGOs would:
1. have to tell AI that they want to engage in deceptive maneuvers, which they will not generally admit, and
2. to the extent that they do ever admit to their tricks, it is in private communiques that will never show up in the public material used for Large Language Models.
.. I mean, I know we live in one of the Clown world circles of Hell where sanity and rationality are only words that once applied to us, but still! Charged because it was polluting?
You know, before I realized that our real rulers never needed to take our weapons the 2nd Amendment in theory prevent the government from doing, because the first time a family court Judge separated a father and children and then he didn't die screaming when brothers, uncles, friends, .. dragged the Vile Satanic Tool out in public and hang him ..
.
.. than laws against purring coffee into drains and legal torturing our unborn babies to death would naturally follow without resistance of significant.
Why is it against the law to pour coffee down a drain - because they hate us and want us tortured daily because they did get to do it when we were unborn.
It took the German State Authorities 'against hate' nearly TWO Years to act so bravely and decisively against that tweet and the tweeter?
Omigawd - what horrible anti-"Our Democracy" tweets could that man have published during that time!! No wonder the German Justice system is on its knees when they need nearly two years to 'react' ..
I honestly cannot believe the blatant idiocy displayed by police and public prosecutor. Perhaps some brave AfD politician should demand that the German prosecutors not prosecute anything bemoaned by those NGOs.
Tip: if you want to put up politcally controverial material, do so as if it's an account from Thailand, India or some Arab nation and tag it in Arabic, Thai or Hindi and the bot-mod won't bother you.
It only really censors English and the major European languages unless there's a mass-flagging.
GER seems to be getting more authoritarian by the day - a sign that there is a cultural shift underway and the woke left feel their cultural hegemony is a bit more threatened than it used to be?

Of course such humour is itself "hate speech" when used to lampoon the authoritarian schoolmarms and their hall-monitor boot lickers.
Yet there is no pushback. One wonders just how much abuse a German can take or perhaps desires .
Goes a long way, history seems to tell. 😨

Gotta laugh to keep from crying....

They apparently enjoy the abuse . What other conclusion could one come to ?
I don't think they enjoy it, but they certainly think they deserve it.
All Germans deserve it. Well, because they are German. Need there be any other reason?
That does seem to be the general thinking.
Maybe it goes hand in hand with certain sexual fetishes, which they seem to share with Japan.
Hate speech legislation and its affects will of course push more voters familiar with the facts towards the only party offering liberty. (No reason to state more that is already obvious.) This is the silver lining. Cause and effect.
Hate speech legislation is an authoritarian's dream.
It is taking a long time . With electricity rates triple those of the USA , if Germany doesnt right the ship soon , it will be too late to recover .
It's never too late. Remember the economic miracle after the total devastation of WW2?
In large part that was enabled by the lack of regulation and entrenched bureaucracy. The right people were in place at the right time. I always hold out hope.
"leonid breshnev" elsewhere: "Well, Merz is currently discussing to build Bunkers in Germany. Do People even know what the Air Raid Alarm Signals in September meant. Hide underr a Table or run to your SAFE Bunker."
Looks like remembering WW2 is becoming all the rage.
Merz is doing performative art in my opinion.
Anyway - God Bless., Steve
Yes. Most people don’t pay attention or want to do work. This may be the biggest reason for civilizational failure. It kind of guarantees it.
I hear Trump has some spare sanctions left over, maybe he can sanction Germany for human rights violations?
If someone at the White House reads your suggestion, it might just happen. That kind of humorous provocation is what Trump does best.
how humiliating to be a police officer in Germany.
It's more humiliating to be a police officer in the UK, where it takes two officers to apprehend a woman for pouring some coffee down a storm drain.
It would seem that “rock bottom” needs to be redefined.
You raise an interesting question.
Read Jim Marrs.

Aka New World Order.
For Americans also add
Read Servando Gonzales
I Dare Call It Treason
The median German has a higher standard of living than the median American. Less financial stress related to health. Higher life expectancy. Free higher education. And better employment protection. Germans also are very sensitive about Nazi phrases and have laws against them. Makes sense given history.
We’ll see if that holds true going forward with triple energy costs . Maybe you are right . I don’t see it though .
Stop coping, please. Germany has succeeded in undermining its own economy to such an extent that more Poles are now returning to Poland than are departing for Germany, a development that no economist anticipated.
Benjamin Franklin famously remarked:
"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Replace "Safety" with "Wealth" (which is a form of safety), and you have Old Ben's prediction for where this is going.
How about 'AI bottom'?
If the Taz says it, it is ok. If Bolz says it, it is a crime.
It is a good illustration that there is not really a Nazi trauma; nobody really cares anymore about the actual Nazis, or the words they used.
As you mentioned earlier, they have become the antichrist, in which no one really believes.
They are just the excuse to punish the enemies of the current regime.
It would be much funnier to observe without all the historical examples to what extremes those people are willing to go.
I don't know what Germans are taught in schools about Nazis, but Americans are almost entirely ignorant about it all.
Thanks for the interesting feedback!
Do people in Germany call their opponents Nazis as well?
Yes. It is here probably worse than in the USA: it is used as a slur against everyone not fully with the left aminstream, but the term "Nazi" still means something. Though much less now, it has been overused too much too long.
QUOTE: ... one of the most famous chancellors, H.Schmidt, was in the SS as a young man ...
===
Are you sure?
You are right, I was wrong.
Schmidt was an decorated officer in the army, but not in the SS.
I mixed it up with G.Grass, beloved German author. He was in the SS.
There was a big discussion in the 1990s about what famous intellectuals and politicians did as very young men during the Nazi era.
I remember it as very public, but honest discussion, without the holier than thou atmosphere we have today.
Even Homer nods. Thank you for the gracious update.
Well said.
As "Use of symbols of unconstitutional and terrorist organisations" is forbidden, does the government provide a reference list of such symbols so that people can be sure to avoid them?
I wonder if the government would have to sue itself for publishing such a list?
Governments seems to always have special reasons to permit unlawful acts.

This is tragic.
Meanwhile, in the UK, a woman receives a hefty fine (since rescinded) for pouring a bit of coffee down a storm drain before boarding a bus.
One can't help wondering if the same fine would've been imposed if she had tripped and accidentally spilled some coffee.
Really? Why?
Any other Questions?
God Bless., Steve
It took the German State Authorities 'against hate' nearly TWO Years to act so bravely and decisively against that tweet and the tweeter?
Omigawd - what horrible anti-"Our Democracy" tweets could that man have published during that time!! No wonder the German Justice system is on its knees when they need nearly two years to 'react' ..
I honestly cannot believe the blatant idiocy displayed by police and public prosecutor. Perhaps some brave AfD politician should demand that the German prosecutors not prosecute anything bemoaned by those NGOs.
"Though this be madness, yet there is method in't."
It is precisely the ARBITRARY and UNPREDICTABLE prosecution of regime critics that is the point of the exercise.
What we can conclude from this, is that taz is more to the left than prof. Bolz.
I will now go on Youtube and listen to Panzerlied, which is used by the Leibgarde for the Royal House of Sweden.
Because.
I went to Wikipedia and read about Sturmlied, then listened to it on Youtube. When are they going to be taken down?
It won't - why should it?
Tip: if you want to put up politcally controverial material, do so as if it's an account from Thailand, India or some Arab nation and tag it in Arabic, Thai or Hindi and the bot-mod won't bother you.
It only really censors English and the major European languages unless there's a mass-flagging.
GER seems to be getting more authoritarian by the day - a sign that there is a cultural shift underway and the woke left feel their cultural hegemony is a bit more threatened than it used to be?
When this case goes to trial, the prosecutor should be arrested as soon as he mentions the forbidden phrase, either in speech or in writing.
No one is above the law.
