There’s so little to uplift our spirits in Britain that we must rejoice in others’ good fortune. Hurrah for Germany.

EppingBlogger's avatar

I say “Hurrah” for any nation which continues to allow democratic parties snd elections. In the UK we have been shocked by the cancellation of elections and the persistent attempt to do so again; only the intervention of Farage and Reform forced the local elections this year.

Political parties which do not support the elites are trashed by the state broadcaster and the Prime Minister. Investigations into them are based on trivia whereas substantial, material breaches by them are dismissed with minor financial penalties, if at all.

"Political parties which do not support the elites are trashed by the state broadcaster"

We in the USA have a snide trope that a government that denies Second Amendment rights under the rubric of, "Citizens don't need guns, that's what police and the army are for," will invariably proceed to, "Citizens don't need independent media, that's why we run CPB/NPR/PBS for you."

Sad to see GB proving the aphorism accurate.

Alistair Penbroke's avatar

GB has had non-state media for longer than the USA has existed and there is no movement to get rid of it despite that it implemented gun control 30 years ago.

The biggest problem is Ofcom's censorship apparatus, but literally every country other than the USA has censorship problems, and let's not forget how pliant your newspapers are. No government intervention was necessary to convert your entire media ecosystem beyond Fox News and the NY Post into gray leftist goo.

Those of us outside the USA are somewhat bored by the USA view it is perfect.

You and I know it is not.

You and I know Europe pays the USA through the nose - not a single bullet is 'free'.

You and I know the USA 'assisted' in blowing up Nordstream 1 and 2, leading to some of the highest energy costs in the world... supplied by, why, oh my, the USA! Who knew?

What Alistair writes is the truth.

Oh, and yes, we are getting rid of WEF UN loving trash, the Labour party.

You're welcome. Have a nice day.

I cannot disagree with a word of this.

In the past week Ofcom have via Google infected the VPN.

It's getting harder to see anything.

I too am envious of Germany's byzantine legal system we used to laugh at that is actually upholding some democratic norms while ours jails tweeters.

Encouraging news! Thanks.

"They had such clear proofs of all the Evil Nazi Fascist Hitlerism lurking within the AfD that they could not even reveal them. Doing so, Faeser said, would compromise the mysterious sources and methods of her highly sophisticated political spy agency."

Don't underestimate the sophistication of highly sophisticated national political spy agencies.

Kristi Noem just revealed today that she discovered that:

1. Her own "employees" installed spyware on her devices to spy on her and record sensitive meetings

2. They were operating a SCIF (Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility, an entire room dedicated to intelligence communications) that was off the maps and unknown to Cabinet-level appointees, filled with information and evidence not available to anyone else in the department.

And she doesn't even RUN a spy agency, just a federal cop agency.

There are so many deep-staters embedded in every federal agency trying to obstruct Trump's reforms that I'm surprised that Trump's cabinet can get anything done.

That may be due to the fact that lifetime bureaucrats tend to do very little except writing memos and seizing every emerging opportunity to shorten their working days. Or as Professor Parkinson put it:

"That people should live by reading each other's memoranda is regarded, in official circles, as perfectly natural."

(C. Northcote Parkinson: "The Law of Delay", 1972, p. 10)

Funny, I was going to post the same excerpt that you did...

Especially her "highly sophisticated political spy agency".

Seriously?

WOW! A bright ray of sanity breaks through the brick wall of resistance!!

That’s huge!! And definitely cause for celebration! 🥳

LOVED the movers anecdote! 🤣

The AfD seems to have had the good fortune that its most ardent opponents are stupid, lazy and irresolute. There is hope yet perhaps.

Chartertopia's avatar

If their opponents had not been stupid, lazy, and irresolute frauds, the AfD would not have been in trouble and Germany would not be as messed up as it is. Stupid, lazy, and irresolute people always bring about their own downfall. The problem is that they can do a lot of damage in the process.

I just finished listening to your interview on Calmversations, and very much enjoyed it. I'm 'Murrican and so I don't really understand German politics, but I can say: Many Such Cases.

I just looked up eugyppiys on calmversations.. was a recent interview.. I only found one from 2022?

Thank you for reading through that 1000 page nothingburger pdf last year too! That gave me a few laughs.

I wonder what happens when the AfD wins its first mayorship in a not-small town or city. Everyone else refuses to work with the mayor? The AfD sells out? An actual successful follow-through? Time will tell.

Something tells me the malingering Afghan has a buyer in mind after he steals the piano he is encouraging you to purchase.

And really. I didn't think I'd live long enough to see anyone use the word "vitiate" again. You keep English alive.

Curious, I looked up the Ramadan fast. Lasting over four weeks, it sounds pretty impressive. You're supposed to refrain from eating drinking smoking and sex...

*During daylight hours*.

Many of us do something very similar voluntarily – it's called intermittent fasting.

Sounds like a smoke break isn't exactly allowed.

Tardigrade's avatar

Sorry, just pointing out a typo. You probably meant "one of".

"It turned out to be on the stupidest and most trivial documents I’ve ever read."

Also, "its": "exactly the opposite of what it’s architects had intended."

This is proof the system is compromised. Evil is working against our democracy at the highest levels. The uniparty must redouble its efforts to identify internal saboteurs.

It always seems crazy to me that the crazed left just assumes their values are the only constitutionally acceptable policies.

They need to be broken

If not accepted, you’re either racist, misogynist, Islamophobic, Homophobic, or Fascist.

Apparent im “all of the above”.

And this is how they create what they call “extremes”.

Everything about this post was fantastic! From AfD's preliminary win in court (thank God there are still judges using their brains), to your first-hand experience of the highly ambitious and driven Afghan migrants just itching to contribute their share to the German economy.

And yet no one will ever apologize or face consequences for calling them against the constitution. Get arrested for calling a politician bald but not for wrongfully saying a whole party should be made illegal. They never talk about the proliferation of fake news on social media or elsewhere when it is them spreading it... Make it make sense.

Today's heroes are what we call over here "whistleblowers." Like Edward Snowden and Julian Assange, they take huge personal risks in order to get the truth out to the public. They stand alone against the overwhelming retaliatory powers of our (basically) fascist governmental institutions. Whoever leaked that 1,000 page document is one of these heroes. My admiration for these individuals is unbounded.
