It is alas going to be some days before I recover from my virus so in the mean time I will try to keep you entertained with small stories like this one.
Also, I am pressing X to doubt that anybody in Munich is selling street ice cream for 4 Euros a scoop. That might be the price you'd get in certain cafes with table service and such, but otherwise I can't believe that's true.
I hope you’re feeling better soon! I’ve been in a similar boat now and am now praying to the probiotic gods in hopes of being able to eat more than a hand full of foods again soon.
And why do the Greens think the poor should be entitled to buy ice cream by the scoop at an ice cream shop rather than the much more economical litre at the grocery store?
What kind of virus is going around over there? I occasionally notice some moron at work showing up wearing a mask for a day or two, but otherwise am not aware of any great plagues currently ravaging the North American continent.
Did you happen to see the map showing the most concentrated areas of infection? All cities with major Chinese presence, Vancouver, Seattle, Los Angeles, NYC, DC.... 🧐
Yes that's absolutely fair. The whole thing is likely some deranged COVID grasping by the PTB. I was thinking that it was perhaps based on self reported ER visits or some such, but didn't dig further. I may do, now though. Thanks for the reminder on pushing fear porn.
I normally steer away from ad hominem comments, but I have to say the lady in the photograph looks as if she might be something of a champion of ice cream eating.
That is hilarious, Indrek Sarapuu! Now my screen is covered in Pu Ehr tea! I swear they just love to shove it in our face. "Look how absolutely ridiculous and infantile we are AND we get to make all of the ludicrous, illogical decisions with no repercussions whatsoever."
At first I wondered if the individual in the picture was an effete-looking man or a plain-turned-ugly-by-fat-and-stupidity woman. That vacuous smile tells you all you need to know about the little going on in her brain.
For half the year I live in Japan and mistaking one sex for another is a very rare thing here. The women here look like women with all the charms that entails, as opposed to the second rate male tribute acts of certain western women with their foul mouths, massive alcohol intake and Fred Flintstone haircuts, which make them almost indistinguishable from their husbands but which they probably believe make them look 'interestingly sophisticated'.
I saw the picture before reading the caption. I immediately thought,"Please don't let that be a picture of eugyppius!" I'd have to quit reading this substack.
What has happened to The West, between the immigration misery and the idiots in charge? I try to follow Europe and Great Britain, but it is difficult to imagine the changes and hope for the USA to avoid this calamitous path.
I'm not convinced that most politicians, or anyone else for that matter, thinks much for themselves. Instead what often happens is that we absorb the ideas that surround us and then label those 'my opinions'. Very little thinking goes on.
We, you and me, are dealing with a severe case of misunderstanding ...
To become a politician, especially one in the higher ranks is a deliberate decision, not encoded in your DNA.
Most of them, like many of the creatures wearing white currently in medicine, choose this path because of MONEY/power; A purely personal, EGOISTIC goal and NOT because of altruism in service of community. This involves thinking, albeit FOR themselves ONLY.
I fully agree, that many, if not most of the sheeple just repeat the latest blurb from the street/TV/radio-station/personal acquaintances and very, very few are able to connect the dots of local or even global events by themselves.
Your English is amazing. I know because I'm an English teacher. Even so, I think what we're dealing with here, you and me, is a case of a misused preposition. That's where the misundertanding lies.
Cars are also very expensive, especially for our young new drivers who deserve to own a car. Car dealers should offer at least one car model, preferably more than one, that is priced so that a youth can purchase it with savings from their summer job. Make it a sports car model if you please. And while we are at it let’s raise the minimum wage too.
The sheer inability (from supposed policymakers, no less) to understand basic economics is horrifyingly fascinating. It's like these people were never taught the difference between reality and fantasy.
Would be kind of interesting to read all of the regulatory and permit issues necessary to even produce that one scoop of ice cream. The cows on the pastures producing methane and having to eat Bovaer feed, the size of the cow pens, the taxes on the farmers (didn’t they just cull a bunch of cows again?) ,the sanitation restrictions, the other ingredients in the scoop, to the energy of shipping to end producer, the machines that make the ice cream, the permits to sell ice cream, etc. What part of the entire journey have the Greens not negatively impacted? They are so stupid.
I had never heard of Bovaer, so I looked it up. This is what I found:
"Milk from cows given Bovaer, a feed additive used to reduce methane emissions, is safe to drink. The additive is metabolised by the cows so does not pass into the milk.
"Bovaer, a brand name for the additive 3-Nitrooxypropanol or “3-NOP”, has undergone rigorous safety assessments as part of the FSA’s market authorisation process, and is approved for use in Great Britain."
I have to say, that's astounding. The idea that cow methane has to be curtailed by feeding cows some synthetic additive is bizarre beyond all measure. Doesn't methane produced by digestion count as "renewable?" And what about wild animals? Should we force deer and antelope and buffalo and rhinoceroses and alpacas and musk oxen to consume this chemical also? Perhaps we should commission a fleet of thousands of gigantic tanker aircraft to fly over the Kalahari, the steppes of Asia, and other grasslands, spraying this wonderful concoction wherever ruminants dare to eat plants and damage the planet with their noxious emissions! Damn the cost! Think of the children!
The vicious morons who thought up this abomination never stop to consider that something is going to turn those plants into greenhouse gasses somehow. If it's not a higher animal that eats them, it'll be bacteria and fungus, who digest them also and emit, wait for it, greenhouse gases! Including methane!
But we're assured that 3-Nitrooxypropanol has "undergone rigorous safety assessments." And we have absolutely no reason to doubt such assurances, especially after the total success of the completely safe covid vaccines.
I also have never heard of 3-NOP and got on the google to see what it is.
At https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8697901/ there is a paper published in Dec of 2021. Just in the first few paragraphs the authors claim 3-NOP to have "minimal safety risk," "low safety risk," and "no detrimental effects to animals and humans."
So...which is it?
These people are nucking futs and the fact that they are playing around with things like this in our food supply is terrifying.
Where I live, there is a local farm that has a store where they sell organic/natural meats and veggies. I'm going to go see what they have this afternoon.
It's like the signs at California gas stations warning about the special cancer risk from the stuff which is only present due to the stuff California mandates be added. (MTBE.)
"We're going to make people use this, and then warn people how terrible it is."
100%. First you freeze the price of the product of cows, then you kill all your cows to claim a moral victory for the Earth First cult. You can get ice cream imported from a country that's much more rational, but you pay the capped price instead of suffering for the sins you commit. Who says communists are stupid?
There you go again. Whacking through the sticky cobwebs of stupidity to reveal what’s going on. I have an eyebrow up and a grin from your turns of phrases.
Strangely politicians had no issues when most prices doubled during the transition from Deutsche Mark to Euro. Most places kept the price, only that it was now Euro and twice as much as before. I remember how the Döner went from 3 DM to 3 Euro. In my eyes that was widespread fraud, and the government looked elsewhere and let everyone do it. There never seems to be any improvement in the political sector, always 100% incompetent.
yes I remember my German friend telling me at the time she wanted a lipstick and thought it was still priced in DM, until she came at the cash register and only the currency had changed, not the number!
It seems that the Green Party and all their current and last and potential future candidates need a lesson in why communism and state planning creates scarcity and why interfering in a free market never has the desired outcomes.
I wonder how much government subsidy would be ponied up for this? Would the poor people only get vanilla or would it be fancy? Who would determine who is poor for the purposes of a cheap ice cream?
And since when did ice cream become a necessity? Is this green politician implying that ice cream is as necessary for life as clean drinking water?
we used to have a saying, a bit green behind the ears. As in, has no life experience, does not know the way of life yet. Sounds like these people are indeed very green behind the ears.
That would seem to be a malaphor, composed of wet behind the ears, and green.
My favorite signature malaphor is to intentionally mismatch different combinations of, "that horse has left the barn," "that ship has sailed," "that bird has flown," "that train has left the station," and "that's water under the bridge."
On the other hand, if they implement it, doing so will create a market-opportunity for poor people.
"Want ice cream, Sir? I qualify for the 50 cent price-cap, so for merely €2/cone I'll gladly buy ice cream for your entire family!"
In my late youth, we used to sneak into Systembolaget (Swedish state monopoly stores for alcohol) and grab lots of que-tabs.
Whih we then proceeded to sell to people desperate to get in before closing hours (1800) on a Friday evening. Our best haul was day before New Year. 500:-/tab after 1700 hours (about 110 Deutsche Mark at the time, or 40USD, if I recall the exchange rates correctly).
That's a great example of the ingenuity of the marketplace, evolving around whatever structures are put in place -- and an example of why central planning will always lead to unintended consequences. Politicians don't have street smarts nor ingenuity, and never foresee these things... it's why it's best if they meddle as little as possible.
During my career, such as it was, there have been numerous occassions where I as part of a team have pointed out to politicians/politicals why proposed effort X would have unintended consequences.
No matter the party-flavour, the response was virtually always a uniform confused noise to the tune of:
"But that's not how people are supposed to react/use it/behave?!"
I could provide examples, some dating back decades, of various political follies.
And I know from friends in the corporate side of things that large corporations are not much different, I'm afraid.
You're right, it's exactly the same mindset and response whether it shows up in "central planning" or in a online platform engagement funnel.
The early internet was exciting, from a usability standpoint, because the technology wasn't that great and the challenge of reproducing analog tool use was exciting. Then the mba-msc got involved and decided that funneling "users" through cattle chutes was the best use of this magical new communication tool set.
My point is, it's not only socialists who think this way. Hardcore libertarian exploiters of mineable resources do it too.
Such a lesson would do no good. They would reject it out of hand because only Fascists think that way. Besides, you can be sure they are indifferent to the actual effects on ordinary people of such nonsense.
Then again, look how many people appear to have voted for government-owned grocery stores in New York. I guess we'll see what kind of ice cream they have available before long.
You would make the very cheapest ice cream either 1) the cheapest one to produce, or 2) the least liked of all the flavors so that less would be sold. It would probably take some experimentation to figure out which option would be least damaging to the bottom line.
Your comment made me laugh so hard I had to explain the article to my husband and son so that they could understand the context of your comment. They found it pretty funny too. Lol
It is alas going to be some days before I recover from my virus so in the mean time I will try to keep you entertained with small stories like this one.

may be an cheap scoop of ice cream will do the trick Skater !
🤣
And why do the Greens think the poor should be entitled to buy ice cream by the scoop at an ice cream shop rather than the much more economical litre at the grocery store?
Because that would require forethought, and they've never heard of the concept.
Feel better soon!
Don't rush your recovery - slow and steady is better!
Your ascerbic commentary is even more delicious when you're under the weather! Very very funny 😁
What kind of virus is going around over there? I occasionally notice some moron at work showing up wearing a mask for a day or two, but otherwise am not aware of any great plagues currently ravaging the North American continent.
Some people were permanently damaged during Covid . Psychologically,it pushed them over the edge .
The fearporn is calling it “razor throat” covid, ignoring the fact that sore throat is a universal cold symptom.
Did you happen to see the map showing the most concentrated areas of infection? All cities with major Chinese presence, Vancouver, Seattle, Los Angeles, NYC, DC.... 🧐
It’s unclear how any accurate version of such a map could exist. Viral concentration in wastewater?
Yes that's absolutely fair. The whole thing is likely some deranged COVID grasping by the PTB. I was thinking that it was perhaps based on self reported ER visits or some such, but didn't dig further. I may do, now though. Thanks for the reminder on pushing fear porn.
It's the ones who wrongfully picked-up some old masks from the previous plandemic ...
It would seem that a tub of ice cream from a supermarket would be very affordable per scoop 😂
I normally steer away from ad hominem comments, but I have to say the lady in the photograph looks as if she might be something of a champion of ice cream eating.
Yes. Yes she probably is.
Could possibly qualify as a "Health Minister", in Belgium...
She'll be demanding cheaper donuts next.
I’m sure she’s already crossed that rubicon.
She would personally benefit from MUCH higher price.
Do you think she might have personal interest in this effort?
I would have skipped my comment had I seen yours first.
At first I wondered if the individual in the picture was an effete-looking man or a plain-turned-ugly-by-fat-and-stupidity woman. That vacuous smile tells you all you need to know about the little going on in her brain.

I agree wholeheartedly about Japanese women.
I saw the picture before reading the caption. I immediately thought,"Please don't let that be a picture of eugyppius!" I'd have to quit reading this substack.
Well his type of wit makes me think very strongly that he is a man rather than a
"Man”.
This was my 1st thought also
That is an inaccurate thing to say. She also looks like she likes a dőner kebab as well.
Or three……
What has happened to The West, between the immigration misery and the idiots in charge? I try to follow Europe and Great Britain, but it is difficult to imagine the changes and hope for the USA to avoid this calamitous path.
Avoid? We started it! The West is a blaze!
😂
🤣🤣🤣 👍👍👍 !!!!
Politicians think ONLY for themselves ...
'For' themselves or 'about' themselves?
First FOR themselves. Once they've got all the positions and stuff they desired they start and remain thinking ABOUT themselves only ever after ...
I'm not convinced that most politicians, or anyone else for that matter, thinks much for themselves. Instead what often happens is that we absorb the ideas that surround us and then label those 'my opinions'. Very little thinking goes on.

You noticed that too.
They always look like that.
Yeah. It’s personal with her.
I’d say she has done some comprehensive on ground research into the subject.
Cars are also very expensive, especially for our young new drivers who deserve to own a car. What could go wrong ?
Nothing of course. This time socialism will be done right.
Ferris Buhler is already planning another day off….
The sheer inability (from supposed policymakers, no less) to understand basic economics is horrifyingly fascinating. It's like these people were never taught the difference between reality and fantasy.
Funny, I just used ‘fantasy and reality’ commenting on a post by @tobyrogers
They should offer four wheeled bikes for free and call them “cars.” Add on an umbrella for wintery days.
"Be seeing you!"
Oh, hardhearted eugyppius, THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!1!
Next up: price caps on sorbet, for the lactose-intolerant children...

So that's all right, then.
Just wait unril they get around to tackling whale farts.
I have a solution to this problem. Stuff the people who care up a whale's ass.
But that's cruelty to whales!
Holy Cow! (intentional...)
I also have never heard of 3-NOP and got on the google to see what it is.

Much like adulterating industrial alcohol with poison during prohibition, to prevent people harming themselves by drinking it.
> Would be kind of interesting to read all of the regulatory and permit issues necessary to even produce that one scoop of ice cream.
But who could spare the month it would take to get through that much text?
lol!
Berlin families relive the experience of waiting for a Trabant, only this time with ice cream!
“Little Hans! You remember when we put our names on the waiting list for vanilla four months ago? Our ice cream is ready now!”
“But Mutti, it’s November, I don’t want ice cream anymore, I want hot chocolate now.”
“Oh Scheisse, I knew we should have put our names on that list back in July.”
She looks like she’s had a few too many scoops.
It couldn’t have anything to do with the anti-cow policies?
100%. First you freeze the price of the product of cows, then you kill all your cows to claim a moral victory for the Earth First cult. Nah!
I don't know what this lady's pronouns are, but I reckon her grocery bill identifies her as a family of four.
lmao
As does her apartment elevator.
Perhaps not in German, but in the 'Murican language, the jokes just write themselves with that one.

Ah I knew the English language would have something similar ! Thanks for the update Henrybowman. I originate from a Dutch-speaking country LOL.
Watching Greens explain how to fix economic problems they caused is more fun than shooting monkeys in a barrel.
Even more fun than those is listening to monkeys in a barrel explaining Green economics. And the fourth combination is the most fun of all.
Postmodern infrastructure and its funding positively demand malaphors such as, "that train is under the bridge".
As postmodern education is water under the horse.
excellent!

Ersatz ice cream.
To wit, library paste -- but kept in freezers.

I'm thinking maybe jalapeno/prune with raisins.
Tuna fudge swirl.
It reminds me of traversing grocery store aisles with all these odd flavors and wondering where the hell the plain is.
Omg, lmao, that is actually a hilarious thought. This person from the Green Party could be the sacrificial taste tester.
Child-like policy ideas from child-like politicians.
Children are cute, children are not corrupt morons. I like children.
No, these politicians are not child-like.
Wouldn't the correct word be "childish"?....not "child-like" at all!.....
Corrupt morons are often childish, but not child-like!....amirite?....
There is much in what you say, Mrs. Bucket; the politicians are indeed childlike; we find their ilk in every high-security juvenile detention center.
Ms. Piggy wants subsidized ice-cream. There’s really nothing free in life. Someone else’s paying for your shit, fatzo!
Your comment made me laugh so hard I had to explain the article to my husband and son so that they could understand the context of your comment. They found it pretty funny too. Lol
God bless you and your whole family. When our politics have reached so low a bar, we need humor to mentally survive.
Could she not use her inflated salary to subsidize these poor, frozen treat missing, youth? Looks like it would be a win for her also
sometimes the solution is so simple !
