Despite these frequent lessons from eugyppius, I am a long way from understanding German politics. However, this much is clear to me: the German political performance artists have taken the theater of the absurd to shocking new heights. Not all clowns wear makeup.

{...I am a long way from understanding German politics...} Don't you worry,

there IS no German politics, there's only politics FOR Germans, made in

- The City of London,

- Tel-Aviv and after the last elections also

- in 50 Hudson Yards, New York; which happens to be the headquarters of BlackRock of

which a Chosen One is CEO Larry Fink !!!

Don't waste any more time thinking about a region that's going to be found in history books very soon ...

Clever Pseudonym's avatar

ahhh yes of course the Jews did it.

Germans ranting about evil Jewish global domination is so retro, everything old is new again.

Klaus Hubbertz's avatar

Just follow the current daily news and only then, tell me it is retro ...

Clever Pseudonym's avatar

you're right, loathsome bigots who hate Jews and drool over their possible extermination aren't retro at all, but an unfortunate part of existence, sort of like lice and crotch crabs. it's only in the past century that they've been synonymous with creepy guys with German names, so maybe it's that part that's retro.

Jörg-M. Rudolph's avatar

He said »Tel-Aviv«. That’s not »Jews«, but Zionists. Very, very different people, child-murderers these days and ethnic cleansers in 1948ff. People, who are not even semites but East Europeans who changed their names to sound »Jewish«. Jews always rejected them, right from the start when the founder of that movement tried to get them to support his Herrenmenschen movement.

And they have always been right about that savage cult of saboteurs, dipshit hoaxer of the ADL.

Philip Carl Salzman's avatar

Tel-Aviv! Larry Fink! The Jews are behind the destruction of Germany. Didn't someone try to do something about the Jews before? Didn't finish the job? So sad.

Klaus Hubbertz's avatar

Tel_Aviv is run by rabid Zionists, following a script from The City of London.

Has nothing to do with the majority of persons of genuine Judaic belief ...

Lydia Lozano's avatar

But, but the City of London is run by a Pakistani guy named Sadiq Kahn, and the British are notoriously and historically anti-semitic. Khan is writing the script for the rabid zionists in Tel Aviv? Really?

Jörg-M. Rudolph's avatar

You are right, cf my comment to the first post of none de plume.

I like that expression, "not all clowns wear makup".

Danielle's avatar

Absolutely! It is very obvious in most Western “Democracies” nowadays.

kertch's avatar

What I don't understand is why the German population is letting the clown show go on this long.

Rikard's avatar

Since we're very close in our thinking to Germans, I beliee I can explain:

Think of the state, the apparatus of it.

Now think of the difference in having trust in the state, and believing in the state.

That's the thing with most of us: even if we don't trust the state all that much, or like it, most stull believe in it.

If you compare it to how a religious belief can mix the actual creed and faith on one hand, with obedience to clergy and dogma on the other, you hae the most obvious parallel.

To openly disbelieve the state, is as difficult for most here as it would be for a 15th century Catholic to disbelieve the Papacy.

I must say, I do have to wonder how it is that Sweden decided to be essentially the sole Western outlier when it came to Covid policy. Sorry, I was just recently recounting elsewhere the way in which I made a godsdamned fool of myself by claiming that Americans would never stand for lockdowns, specifically because of the reasons that you mention here. America was *born* of being skeptical of the state. It has been *noticeable* to me at times when I have gone to other countries, how the governments there don't seem to have nearly as antagonistic a relationship with people.

I mean, obviously, I was painfully, brutally wrong about what Americans would -- in fact -- put up with. The thing is, it should have *been* America giving the finger to all of that nanny statist bullshit. (You may safely assume that at least some of this is jealousy over y'all stealing our thunder on that front. 🤣) And instead, we got in a competition with the rest of Five Eyes to see who could be the biggest cunts about it all.

No, I don't know where I'm going with this either... 🤣

Sorry, I only got three discontinuous hours of sleep last night, and then I went and worked eleven hours straight on the single most retarded piece of software engineering it has ever been my misfortune to admin. I may be getting a bit punchy. 🤣

I guess... "Go Sweden"? Yeah. Let's go with that as the takeaway from this ramblefest...

Tardigrade's avatar

'The thing is, it should have *been* America giving the finger to all of that nanny statist bullshit.'

I can only speak for myself. I believed all the Covid stuff at the beginning. I was critical of those who were complaining about civil rights. Why? Because I believed the new virus was actually a threat, and biology trumps ideology.

As the Covid episode progressed, it became increasingly clear to me (a science nerd) that we were being lied to and legitimate scientific discourse was being ruthlessly smothered. I'm embarrassed that it took me so long to realize how blatantly the authorities could propagandize their own population—and not just about Covid.

It felt almost literally like the scales fell from my eyes. I don't know what color pill it would be, but el gato malo was spot-on when he called Covid the "sorting hat" that made skeptics of a lot of people.

Bizarro Man's avatar

No. Sweden is the place where grenade attacks and other migrant horrors have become an almost daily occurrence.

DE's avatar

As the much smarter dead guys all knew,

"How do you tell if a politician is lying?"

"Their lips are moving."

Disbelief in disbelief is a televised psychosis of slaves.

So, there is no hope in any politics. No point in belly-aching about the subversion of democracy.

Thanks, DE!

But here's another question.

Where did all the green anti nuclear weapons and pacifists disappear to?

Was it all manufactured protest?

Jörg-M. Rudolph's avatar

According to my research: bc of »unconditional surrender«. Our short-time nation state, which took so lang to come into being 1871 (in a very incomplete form compared to France, England) was crushed after just 75 years. Today Germans not even want to have a nation state. I am open to other interpretations, however.

Absurd, definitely! Artistic - perhaps? As I couldn't help noticing, the Chancellor is unwittingly named after Kurt Schwitters' Dadaist experiment: "Merz".

I think the "performance artist" part is the key part. This is not just in Germany, but all over the western world, at least. Politics is all performance. Politicians have no real constituents. They don't really care about anything other then getting re-elected. If they can get re-elected by marginalizing "right way" parties so much the better.

Danno's avatar

I'm grateful to eugyppius for having gained some understanding of German, and European politics. Now I'm able to read US and British media's characterization of what's happening in Europe with a more critical eye, and begin to comprehend just how biased and ignorant they are.

John Beckner's avatar

The sarcasm is very well deserved. Great piece as usual. And the whole process today was outrageous. But change is afoot with the latest polls. And I think Merz will be very weak, and make (more) mistakes.

C. L. H. Daniels's avatar

It’s looking to me like eugyppius might even have been prescient in predicting the possibility that the leftist parties, having now gotten everything they actually wanted from Merz in the negotiations over the debt brake, will in the end refuse to make him Chancellor and force through a left-wing minority government instead.

Even if this doesn’t happen, I foresee no world in which Merz fulfills any of his major campaign promises or governs in any way that is substantially different than how the traffic light coalition governed.

Warmek's avatar

I'm a hardcore dry sarcasm junkie, and Eugyppius is a sarcasm dealer well worth the price of admission.

> Instead, we had Gysi, that beacon of Western liberalism, casting himself in the tradition of Weimar-era communist revolutionaries and telling us why the DDR wasn’t really all that bad after all.

Oh yeah, that's the stuff... *loosens the tourniquet and lets the needle droop*

Yuri Bezmenov's avatar

Gysi once said "Every year more Germans die than are born. Fortunately, this is due to the fact that the Nazis do not reproduce particularly well and therefore, we depend on immigrants from other countries."

Democracy is when an old socialist from a party with 8% of the vote becomes Senior President. In America, we say snitches get stitches. In Germany, snitches get riches.

Stuffysays's avatar

Ah, the good old DDR! I used to visit East Berlin in the 1980s and could never work out why the Democratic Republic wasn't actually democratic and the old East Berliners would turn their faces away from the decadent West Berlin when the metro went through the bad bits. Even better was dining in the rotating tower and watching everyone continously trying not to notice West Berlin and the big Audi neon sign. (I was a silly English youth with very little geographical knowledge!). These old Commies, Socialists and Nazis take a long time to actually die off don't they? And the wheels turn and suddenly Art Deco Commies are trendy again.

Perhaps for Gregor Gysi, alleged Stasi collaborator, Melanie Dawes is a bit too extreme.

It seems West Germany is calling in the relics of Soviet East Germany to help them save Germany from the present day people of East Germany who have thrown away the Soviet T-shirt and declared that they want sanity and a peaceful productive relationship with today's real Russia, the last bastion of Christianity and mental stability. They voted clearly and in unison to divide East Germany from West Germany – one glance at the electoral results on the map showed that. They say in effect, "Save us from West Germany! They are nut cases!"

“Democracy” is a stop gap governing system, in place between dictatorships. The progressive party in the US is no more interested in waiting their turn than the communists in Germany are. They will force or deceive their way into authority by any means necessary, and since more wealth seems to pool into their pockets, they can effectively fund the agenda.

They only feign support for election popularity contests… those methods are too unreliable for them. Us republic lovers are lambs in their fields, only used for shearing, and worse. Western governments are theirs for the taking, like grabbing candy from babies.
