Pantsuit Plague. Well put.

Ryan Gardner's avatar

Might be his best since "VACCINATORS". I still laugh at that one 6 years later.

The pantsuit plague is easily diagnosed. They're the people who need instructions on shampoo bottles.

Chartertopia's avatar

And don't follow them.

I wouldn't follow poopy pants either!

Aaah, Ursula. Did you know that she made a movie with Heiko? Not quite wearing a pantsuit in it, though.

Well put indeed! The EU again illustrates it's own irrelevance on the international scene. Since they wield negligible global power, other nations should not accept their bureaucratic caprice either and just flat out reject and/or retaliate against DSA, DMA, CSRD, CSDDD and CBAM. The US needs to take the lead.

No idea how the Iran strike will pan out... but it is insane to me that now that Trump is calling the shots instead of the Washington Blob, the American military is suddenly a terrifying force to be reckoned with instead of a messy, incompetent bull in a china shop. A billionaire real estate playboy is somehow more effective in foreign policy than the smartest people in the room with decades of experience.

Exactly. The Iranian nuisance got started by clueless, unlamented Jimmuh Cahtah, and remained unresolved through half a dozen presidencies, the worst of whom was Obama who sent them pallets of cash.

Pacific Observer's avatar

Despite what Western media have been spoon-feeding us for decades, the Iranians (people and regime) are not foaming-at-the mouth desert Arabs, but Persians who take pride in thousands of years as a high civilization with a fully recorded history.

Shia Islam is very different in FEEL and substance to Saudi-sponsored Wahhabism.

JO's avatar

Those Iranians were murdered in their thousands according to recent reports simply for protesting, and NOT because their leaders are the caretakers of thousands of years of high civilisation, BUT because their leaders are Religious fanatics who want the end of the World so that their Messiah will return. Fortunately it seems Israel and now Trump have decided that the end of the Ayatollahs, tough as it will be, is better than the end of the World courtesy of Iranian Ayatollahs nukes.

Pacific Observer's avatar

QUOTE: ... Iranians were murdered in their thousands ... simply for protesting, ...

NO. Nothing about the "protests" was organic, it was a giant, U.S.-financed astroturf operation, carefully designed to MAXIMIZE CASUALTIES.

The U.S. had spent years and billions of dollars in bribes to organize "astroturf" protests in Iran. The Signal social media platform was used extensively, and thousands of Starlink terminals were smuggled into the country to pre-empt an Internet shut-down.

Given what we know about a previous instalment of this series, Victoria Nuland's 2014 "Maidan" protests, we can be certain that foreign or foreign-financed SNIPERS MURDERED both "protesters" and security forces to maximize casualties and resulting political fall-out.

The whole DRAMA was then further inflated through a carefully prepared set of LIES (aka propaganda) to massively exaggerate casualty figures and popular reaction.

BTW Maidan is a Persian word, meaning something like market square.

JO's avatar

One minor problem, I have had family visiting Iran and working with Iranians for many years. Training their workers - no more than 10 in a room, and always an Imam sat at the back to check. When training more than 10, the the numbers swapped every so often AND best of all, punishment IF one (the relative) even smiled at the female interpreter, A lesson rapidly learnt as there was no running to the embassy for protection from the Imam's displeasure.

BUT secretly, after work the trainees would get messages out and secret meals were arranged. Women would arrive with husbands but robed in their black tubes then discard them to display beautiful western clothes, make up and hairstyles. Iranians in general HATE the Ayatollahs and your fantasy myths about it all being a US set up are simply a feature of you ideology.

Ukraine's Maidan square was the equivalent of the Ayatollahs taking over, but in that case the US supported them. Said relative also trained people in Russia, not sure about Ukraine, the only thing I remember being told about Russia was the alleged state of the roads

I'm guessing she tried but had to leave voice-mails and they haven't bothered calling back.

Charlotte's avatar

Allan Connal's avatar

Israel and the US trying to save the world,by setting it on fire. Two of the biggest dangers to the planet.

Riri's avatar

You are delusional

Chartertopia's avatar

They sure do have their dangerous moments, but Iran has been fighting Israel and the world since 1979. That revolution should have been enough payback for the US's 1953 replacement of a democratically-elected leader by the Shah; but Iran has been paying it back for the last 47 years and trying to create nuclear weapons, and the ordinary common sense you seem to lack knew Israel and the US were never going to accept that.

ron's avatar

Chartertopia

Iran is not trying to create nuclear weapons. They can buy some off the shelf from North Korea and upgrade them it they simply want nuclear weapons. What they want is the demonstrated capability to build one.

In fact, the Ayatollah issued a fatwa excluding Iran from building a nuclear weapon which he considers to be evil. You know, the Ayatollah that they the U.S. and Israel just killed.

It's not about nuclear weapons and you know that. Or at least you should because both America and Israel say it is about dismembering Iran and replacing it with something to their liking.

Chartertopia's avatar

And you trust the ayatollah but other politicians are liars because ...?

Hard to have a conversation with someone who ignores the fly in the soup (Iran's aggressive terrorism since 1979).

ron's avatar

Nobody but nobody says that Iran has nuclear weapons (except for keyboard warriors)

As I mentioned in my post, Trump, Vance, Hegseth, European leaders all say it is about reforming Iranian society and turning it into a subjugated state.

Chartertopia's avatar

As you didn’t mention in your post, Iran has been attacking the world for 47 years.

As you didn’t mention in your post, your faith in Iranian politicians but not Western ones undermines your credibility.

JO's avatar

You assume N Korea have them for sale! You think China (they have Uighur Muslims) or Russia (Chechen Muslims) would allow N Korea to even consider it?

JO's avatar

Iranians have had little say since the Ayatollah's took over. They have a direct line to God.

the long warred's avatar

It’s like Iran’s Ring of Fire except it works.

Tom Lefebvre's avatar

They are demonstrating what leadership is. If they would do nothing, nothing would change and the planet would be more dangerous for everyone. The real explanation of this is the idea that other Muslim nations are also pouring on the fire against Iran. They were as uncomfortable as we are with the behavior of such an evil administration that Iran has exhibited for the last 47 years.

JO's avatar

This started on October 7th - Iran and its proxies set the planet afire. They sowed the wind, Trump and Israel have to ensure they Ayatollah's and the Theocracy reap the whirlwind and Iranians get to overthrow them.

lmao. It has nothing to do with Iran. It's all about the Orange Cheetah Nazi. i did hear, just now, that Iran's navy has been downgraded to paddle boards tho

The hypocrisy is breathtaking. Obama deported 4 million illegals. He bombed seven countries without congressional approval. Where was the outrage then? Barack Obama executed 500 drone strikes, which killed civilians. Americans were also killed. Americans were on Obama’s kill list, also known as the ‘Disposition Matrix.’ So, please, EU retards spare us these lectures about the legality of the strikes.

If anyone thinks this is just about Iran they are naive. This is mainly about oil, specifically cutting off China's access to Iranian oil.

- Trumps actions in Venezuela was deeply connected to oil - both geopolitically and economically

- The humanitarian and energy crisis in Cuba is directly tied to the loss of Venezuelan oil

There's a connection to oil....but it's a complex one that mixes energy geopolitics with security and regional dynamics.

Personally, even though I'm a libertarian, and adamantly opposed to war, I still find the world a safer place today.

Demeisen's avatar

Oil? I've heard renewables and batteries can replace everything. Surely that can't be false.

Ryan Gardner's avatar

ha! exactly.

The green scam never had anything to do with protecting earth.

It was so the elites could control all the energy in the world so they could determine whether you could bring life into this world.

CorkyAgain's avatar

Wim de Vriend's avatar

There's a chance of it, if you can wait a hundred years or so.

Warmek's avatar

Well, I made an ass out of myself in the comments... somewhere (maybe here?) as regards to Venezuela, so, ideally I'll manage to avoid that this time.

It's hard to imagine the world being a significantly worse place with the Theocracy of Iran gone. Now, whether we'll actually achieve that is still up in the air, even if we got the top couple guys. On the flip side, I do also recall that we ended *up* with the Theocracy of Iran because they overthrew the guy we put in place after *we* overthrew Mossadegh. So hopefully there are no repeat "unintended consequences" for this one.

Ryan Gardner's avatar

You didn't make an ass out of yourself. Who knows how it all works out.

But I do think this has to do with oil...and choking off Chinas economic ponzi scheme.

the long warred's avatar

There’s absolutely the wrinkle here that the 60% enriched Uranium Iran had means 95% of the work to get to weapons grade is done.

It means you need 5% of the effort to go to 90%, which means 5% of the machines, centrifuges, electrical power signature and a much easier to hide facility.

A small warehouse size target instead of a very large complex.

The last part of making the bomb even smaller.

So that is a real angle, they couldn’t be allowed to finish.

Warmek's avatar

OK, perhaps "made an ass" is excessive. I concur it has to do with oil. And, as much as it throws sand in my libertarian gears, it's probably even justifiable.

This is my whole "physics versus engineering" paradigm coming in again.

Suzie's avatar

A lot always depends upon who’s doing the overthrowing.

Take our own American Revolution for the prime example.

JO's avatar

Not just Iran's theocracy, Hamas, Houthis, Hezbollah are all now deprived of a banker and arms dealer.

Warmek's avatar

No, I get it. It's very, very probably going to turn out to be a net positive.

Henrybowman's avatar

"Personally, even though I'm a libertarian, and adamantly opposed to war, I still find the world a safer place today."

Same here. Except for Mexico, and maybe what we see today is that finally getting shaken out, too.

"The hypocrisy is breathtaking... Where was the outrage then?"

Today's reeeeeee: "Three of our servicemen are dead!!1!"

My response: "So then, roughly a third of the servicemen Democrats killed just trying (and failing) to 'peacefully' get hostages back from Iran.

"Poor Democrats — always believing that 'we tried' is an acceptable substitute for “we did.”

The Great Resist's avatar

“i did hear, just now, that Iran's navy has been downgraded to paddle boards tho”

Ryan Gardner's avatar

<<<<<This is mainly about oil, specifically cutting off China's access to Iranian oil.<<<<<

SCA's avatar

I'll paraphrase what I said on SimComm's post--how I was just reminded how big the oceans are when recent news had mentioned it was going to take two weeks for a US ship (airplane carrier?) to reach its destination in the ME.

If you don't have an empire someone else will and if they control the shipping lanes your nation becomes their vassal, one way or another. If the US doesn't control the shipping lanes China will.

There's nothing new anywhere. Take all them crazy Shias and ultra-Orthodox Jews out of it. There was a Persian Empire trying to gobble up all its neighbors back when their rulers were Zoroastrians and there's never been peace in the Middle East no matter what cult is the current fashion, and having enough power to keep trade flowing through wherever the waters stream is the lifeblood of civilization.

I knew people whose lives were destroyed by the Shah and people whose lives have been badly harmed by the regime of the mullahs so I don't imagine any sort of happy modern secular future for Iran. The Kurds, the Azeris, the Balochis aren't going to have welcoming tears in their eyes for any iteration of a return of the King and the usual crazy communists there won't either.

But taking out the mullahs' money spigots will be pretty meaningful for the possibility of a business alliance between the various Arab kingdoms and Israel and that could certainly end up saving a lot of lives here, there and everywhere.

And--to all the oligarchs of the world who thought a place like Dubai could be their safe cozy playground--great thinking, guys. You didn't have enough money to buy yourselves some maps?

Pat Robinson's avatar

I think if Iran ends up inwardly focused and the funds to all the terrorists stop, that is enough positive for today.

I’ll take that win.

SCA's avatar

There are never enough non-crazy people in that part of the world and Iranian leaders have already moved tons of money abroad and they can keep making mischief indefinitely, and if they find the doors slammed on them in the Gulf now because they were stupid enough to fire drones at Fancy Commissioned Architecture they'll find expedient hosts in Moscow and Beijing.

But this had to be done anyway. Let's hope for the best.

Pat Robinson's avatar

First step of a journey and all that

SCA's avatar

So it goes.

CS's avatar

"I don't imagine any sort of happy modern secular future for Iran."

Me, neither.

The WSJ is hyperventilating about the chance now for a "more peaceful, more prosperous Middle East."

Well, two things:

1) I've been hearing that that is right around the corner my whole life, and yet it never gets here;

2) I live in North America, so how does anything that happens in the Middle East advance my ball?!!

SCA's avatar

Unfortunately the Middle East is actually the center of the world. We don't get to escape its craziness no matter what choices we make.

And--look. If we hadn't had all those lunatic sects sprouting from every grain of sand there, we wouldn't've eventually had Bach. Quite costly but still. Worth the price.
