I dunno, I thought that chick was wife material. I'm devastated to find out she's not real. ;)

"Paula" really gets around! She has commented on every article I've read lately, from various authors.

They should add artificial intelligence to the bot. She might also develop to become anti-vax ;)

You are of course all aware that 'paula fox' is an anagram for 'a flu, a pox'?

The Paula Fox reign of terror has been an annoying one.

Judge not Paula Fox until you have tottered a mile in her cherry-red stilettos. Who knows what Paula Fox dreams were crushed by these past two years? Send not to ask for whom the bot toils.

I, too, have been in extensive discussion with Substack about the notorious PaulaFox, and I was told they had implemented new anti-spam measures that would resolve the issue, but then more comments from her appeared again as soon as the previous bans expired. They are, however, aware of this issue and are working hard to eradicate the bots.

thanks, it is bizarre to type this but i am not very current in the world of substack, and i see some of my commenters replying as if they’re real posts, so I wanted to be clear.

to the extent it matters, substack tell me they’re working on making my ability to ban them actually effective, which would also be a step in the right direction.

after i hit the 500k subscriber mark it *may* become an option.

until then you must content yourself with immunity to all betacoronaviruses.

Yes, clearly the implementation is still in flux as sometimes it gives me a dropdown with the ability to indefinitely ban a user and other times not. Sadly, after I selected “indefinitely ban,” it only ended up being for 12 hours each time. Clearly a work in progress but at least in progress.

when i click ban option, i am presented with a dialogue box stating that the account has already been banned for a century or more. which i admit seems sufficient. but then it is back the next day.

Thanks for the tip off regarding "Paula". Surprisingly before reading this post my daughter and I were talking on the phone and I mentioned Paula. She immediately said. Mom it's a bot.

Thanks for the heads up. We see these across all substack posts, as well as on Disqus etc. The (Chinese? Russian? Israeli? who knows) bot writers are a step ahead of the anti-spam algorithms for the time being.

Did someone who is smart enough to read your articles fall for this? I see these bots on several substacks. Who would click? 🤣

These "comments" are appear on several stacks that deal with the virus (Berenson, el gato malo, Steven Kirsch). You must be over the target.

Speaking of malicious comment… eugyppius, the AIs are coming for you!

My first thought was that Norton is now censoring covid content. However, on further investigation, because this is an antivirus warning, I'm pretty sure it's Paula's fault. Reinforced by the fact that this is the particular post that both my sister and I failed to receive via email. Thanks a lot, Paula. At least it's a possible solution for that mystery mystery.

It doesn't explain why I still received all (most?) other email notifications of eugyppius posts, all of which contain greetings from Paula.

It wouldn't surprise me if AI censoring is the next step, though. We already know Youtube and other media outlets do it. Maybe Norton have joined the bandwagon. Maybe time to find a new antivirus, or just use a Linux OS? ;)

I don't use an antivirus program. However, it has been demonstrated in the past that Apple was invisibly vanishing certain terms related to pedophilia (that was in 2013) so the concept is nothing new.
