I’m hosting family, so this won’t be a long post, but the story of Friedrich Merz’s debt brake overhaul continues to be one of the greatest political farces I have ever seen, and I need to get this off my chest.
How do they manage the cognitive dissonance where they believe that Russia can simultaneously be taking over the world and about ready to collapse?
I mean is the EU belly aching that 300 mil Americans separated by 3,000 miles of water aren't keen on protecting 600 mil people in the EU from 130 mil Russians that still haven't been able to overthrow 50 mil Ukrainians?
I think this is just one big boondogle before they finally try to destroy Germany.
Exactly - they said ‘hey look at those Americans- they’ve been duped for decades by their government giving their politicians and contractors and NGOs loads of money and look how rich they became!’ Nothing but a big sucking sound at the expense of the citizens.
Most Germans have learned quite successfully to juggle at least two completely contrary statements by now, no doubt about that. To be more precise most do not reflect the consistency of different assertions spread by the media at all, so PR agencies have a very easy time with them. At least, not everything being told can be wrong, can it?
I don't think they actually fear Russia. If they did, they would be behaving much more seriously and rationally. "When a man knows he is to be hanged in a fortnight, it concentrates his mind wonderfully."
The silly blather and pointless, wasteful spending tell me it's still about petty disagreements and holding on to useless political offices. When they do get scared, they will grow up. But it will be too late.
How’s that saying go again? Rather rein in hell than be a servant in heaven? You get where I’m going. We have Carney here in Cuba with snow. Aka the former post national state of Canada
Nothing wrong with King Carney. Nothing that a one way ticket to another planet couldn't fix. Like Canada, we in the UK know rather a lot about King Carney - and it's not good.
Sadly, no. Mr Carney has had a fast pass for his entire career combined with the luck to be in the room when bad things happened but not take any blame. There were famous exchanges with British MPs who told him in person that he did not do a great job at the Bank of Eng;land, but Mr 'Teflon' Carney sailed onwards anyway.
Even if one accepts he an OK banker (he's not), that does not make him fit to lead a country without being elected.
Mr Carney is not quite 'City', since he did not manage to hang around and pick up another 'City' job. No. He was tolerated but WEF, IMF, World Bank and the UN were far a better fit for this unelectable man.
> Maybe he wants to be remembered forever - as the worst chancellor in German history.
And given the competition, that would be quite the achievement!
"Congratulations sir, you have managed what many have said for decades would be impossible for all time. You have supplanted Adolf Hitler as the Worst German Chancellor in History. May God have mercy on your soul."
AusMERZung - economic and social ANNIHILATION of Germany and most of the EU - is precisely the mission for which MERZ climbed all the way to the top of the greasy pole, with the occasional helpful push from BlackRock and its various public and private allies.
I realise now that a lot of European governments are limping from crisis to crisis.
Just when you think they cant get any more dumb with their policies - they go and prove you wrong!
When reality comes along for these people it is going to be one hell of a shock.
BTW where are they going to produce those weapons for Ukraine? I cant help thinking with the burdensome legislation Europe will be unable to produce fireworks let alone artillery shells.
It really is a clown world in most of Europe at the moment!
I left Europe 22 years ago - oof it now looks I escaped a disaster. why is everyone so Ukraine minded? what has Europe lost there? why is half the world afraid of Putin's Russia? what has the man done to earn this? Is this still fear left from the Lenin time? he is long dead. so is communism in Russia, as far as I can see from here in the US. We absolutely need some canned common sense so we can wake up all these brainwashed people. As to pigeon, I think there might be more brains in the beast than in the man. I don't think I will get arrested for saying that, although Reiner Fuelmilch might disagree on that!
Putin must be vilified and Ukraine must be won, but not because Putin is so bad or because Ukraine is valuable. The Cold War ended around 1992, but only one side stopped fighting it, the Russians. Ever since Boris Yeltsin mounted that tank the neocons around the globe have been plotting their domination of the entire northern hemisphere, from one side of the Bering straight, right around to the other. Putin is the last thing standing in the way of this project. Ukraine is Putin's buffer against the globalist project. Likewise, Ukraine is the last stepping stone to the globalists being on Putin's front porch. So, for now it has value. Putin recognizes this, as does Trump.
Putin is nobody's idea of a democratic leader, but he is simply behaving as anyone would if their were a group of nations plotting the demise of his country. For his part, Trump is trying to resolve the situation while at the same time thwarting the globalist project. For now, that makes him odd bedfellows with Putin.
The Putin & Trump haters seem to have forgotten that this is not the first time the US and Russia were odd bedfellows. Good old Uncle Joe and his Communist USSR, ganging up with US to destroy Germany in WW II. At least this time, it is Putin, not Stalin, Russian Federation, not USSR, and Germany seems hell bent on destroying itself without any help needed from the Trump/Putin alliance.
So many people in Germany are still hypnotized, waiting for an authoritiy to tell them it's okay to wake from their trance. I love your idea of canned common sense. Imagine if just a fraction of the effort that went into the covid psyop was put into deprogramming. If all the brainwashed could gather in the same stadiums and convention centers and parking lots where they lined up to be injected, but this time, en masse, they could pry the lid off a can of common sense and be hit with some type of smelling salts of truth. For the more intractable cases of brainwashing, they might have to open up a can of whoopass.
I am amazed at the lengths some people go to justify their beliefs. My son is still under the illusion that Trump is going to remove women's reproductive rights. This is because he has been told this by left wing feminists in he knows in the US. If only these people would look at the facts and reality!
And of course Russia would sit and wait watching for decades patiently how Europe struggles consolidating its poor armies and defense industry, until it finally starts waging war against it. Of course Russia would be able to wait for Europe getting battle ready without too much risk, but how can the European establishment even consider that such a plan would ever succeed. And what about the EU peoples? How can they believe in such debile strategies against a formidable opponent, that is getting stronger by the day?
The whole EU seems to be rotting away alive, it is an endless accumulation of complete idiocy.
After hearing about the German army's "APCs that can accommodate pregnant women", I have to imagine that their new artillery shell factory would look something like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6U3g-h1rxQw
Well, they published a manifesto with essentially nothing in it. And the UK electorate was so fed up with the Tories that they apathetically voted them in anyway.
At this point, politics is a sideshow, more or less divorced from the reality of people's lives. On some level, we understand that things are going to get worse before they get better. We're all waiting for the inevitable spectacle of the unstoppable force of our political elites' obviously useless delusions hitting the brutal immovable object of reality.
The US managed to switch governments (probably) just in time. Europe is going to be more comprehensively f'd up. Our core delusions are too deeply embedded in our collective psyche. There's no voting our way out of that kind of madness, unfortunately.
I wake up each day to find new lows for our country. It seems the people who are never held to account but are instead rewarded are determined to wreck the entire place - every single aspect.
We both recall Mr Starmer KC looking straight to camera last summer and declaring 'I am the law' - in the full knowledge he had lied yet again, as we found out months later, as part of a clumsy State cover-up.
His lies are now so frequent it's difficult to know if anything said at any time makes any sense. He makes the late Just-in Trud-eau look good.
As a Brit, I cannot understand why post-Election the 'old' Bundestag still "exists". Why did it not cease to exist with the election of a new one? In Britain, as soon as the election is over, the Removals van pulls up to 10 Downing Street the next day! The old Parliament was dissolved, there was an election, if you didn't get a seat, time to pack up your stuff and go home!
We even had this kind of charade a bit in Ireland (why again, I do not understand) after the recent election (November last year) and then the Green Ministers were hanging around still making Ministerial pronouncements in January, even February! Why? Begone!
Yeah, I can certainly see the benefit in things like that. Joe Biden probably did nearly as much damage between November 5th and January 19th as he had the previous four years combined.
I know from my folks in Belgium, that both the outgoing govt and the newly elected get paid. Why would you leave so suddenly if you still get paid? that is I suppose, why Belgian politicians need a year to form a government LOL.
Well, the most important question: What lovely homecooked meals are you preparing for the in-laws?
Now to the rest of your post: God help you and Germany, truly. Against stupidity, etc. etc.--that will always be first principles. Over here I feel every minute ticking away of the two years we have to get things not only right, but bullet-proofed for a significant enough time to raise a generation of not-too-stupid people.
Looking at what is happening in Germany is sort of like a good friend or family member who is determined to stay on the booze or drugs regardless of how detrimental it is to their life. No amount of negative reality or advice will change their course of action. That said, I really can’t understand why the German population is putting up with this s***.
Because in EU27 and UK elections are shows, liberty is something those in power 'permit', and no matter what the issue, libtards do the wrong thing. Hence Merz lobbied on limiting debt, got power, and before the 'new admin', used the 'old admin' to add insane levels of debt - the effect of which will be ruinous not only for Germany but the remaining 26 member states and more....
Let me take a crack at a prediction of how this will end if Merz gets his way. The German government will spend hundreds of billions of dollars, putatively on defense and infrastructure, which will somehow find its way into massive green boondoggles. These green boondoggles will involve purchases of massive amounts of green things from the Chinese. This will make the Chinese and certain select Germans wealthier, but in the end the German public will have absolutely nothing to show for being another 500 billion Euro more in debt. I can be very confident about this because it is pretty much how these projects work out in the U.S.
The rule of holes once again goes unheeded: stop digging.
The forces both within Merz personally, and from outside him, are soo delusional after decades of getting away with reckless spending on fantastical projects they have utterly blinded themselves to even the concept of the force that is reality.
But reality doesn’t care, and it’s coming at Germany (and the EU) like a heat guided missile that will lay waste to the entire country.
AfD will get to try to pick up whatever pieces are left, and attempt to restore sanity, but even then these lunatics will still flail and wail. That’s what’s happening here in the US as Trump is working to shore up our economic nightmare so it doesn’t crush us all like bugs, as the Democrats act as if he’s gouging their eyes out. All these Lefty loons are hopeless and extremely dangerous.
Their denial of reality, and unhinged contempt for Trump, and/or the AFD, only guarantees untold suffering and pain.

The principal _aims_ of Friedrich Finsterfels [Black Rock] Merz are:
(1) Destroy German industry, so Black Rock et aliae [sic] can pick up choice morsels for pennies on the dollar.
(2) Engineer various "emergencies" including power outages as a smokescreen behind which to bring in the longed-for totalitarian NEW ORDER, including total surveillance and draconian enforcement of arbitrary restrictions of free speech and movement. "Fifteen minute cities," no more vacations on Tenerife.
(3) "Cashless" economy: ALL transactions are approved or DENIED based on computerized "social credit" data. This will not, of course, apply to members of the Inner Party. The Inner Party will reside in idyllic communities far from the hoi polloi, and will have all Western-style (and Chinese) goods and services (including life-extending medical services) at their fingertips, as in GDR times.
I've commented before that Leftism is more religion than political philosophy, a radical one at that. The zealots won't go down without a massive fight.
Europe is a lovely third world country. Lots of pretty historical sites. Quite dangerous for the civilized world; but fairly safe as Africa goes.
I recommend Europe 7/10 for tourists. Watch your wallet! The pickpocketing is like Ho Chi Minh City, only withhout the moderating influence of the mafia.
Alas, if you can't afford a high class hotel in a high class neighborhood, Europe is more of a 4/10. Only the rich have safety. Still, lots of pretty historical sites.
I'm not sure we need to be quite so pessimistic. The wording, at least as I read it, is that a 500 billion "special asset" may be created to pay for it. Actually achieving it, I don't think, is the strict wording, and as the constitutional court just confirmed, it's the strict wording that counts.
Since the entire green thing has only ever been all about the money, we got of pretty lightly.
I'd be more worried about any parties expressing any doubts about this measure to be forthwith defined as "opposed to the constitution" and thus vulnerable to banning orders.
All hail our wise leaders democratically using de-elected parliaments where true democratic majorities exist to do great things like this!
A few incontrovertible truths seem to be converging. First, massive borrowing and spending always generates enormous fraud. But can it ever be discovered? You wonder if an EU equivalent of DOGE is even possible. Second, war (or preparation for it) is always accompanied by inflation. Will the Germans reject stable prices and embrace the Rudolph Havenstein theory of money? Third, you cannot print kilowatts out of thin air. You may want or even need the war toys, but what will you build and power them with? Germany's predicament cries for an out-of-system solution, probably a populist revolt.
I keep reading the amount of defense spending as 'percent of GDP', rather than actual numbers. This seems like deliberate obfuscation. With Germany's GDP at 5.7 trillion, 1% of it is only 57 billion. And that would bring the country up to current NATO guidelines.
So, in a decade, 500 billion on defense spending and 500 billion on windmills. I'm sure that Putin is trembling at the thought of the 500 transgender tanks that money will buy.
You're missing the brilliance of it. With 500 billion windmills, Germany will be absolutely invulnerable to Putin's weaponized eagles. He thinks he'll be able to sic the birds on you.... bam, all of them die flying into windmill blades.
So this is all about their fear of Russia?
How do they manage the cognitive dissonance where they believe that Russia can simultaneously be taking over the world and about ready to collapse?
I mean is the EU belly aching that 300 mil Americans separated by 3,000 miles of water aren't keen on protecting 600 mil people in the EU from 130 mil Russians that still haven't been able to overthrow 50 mil Ukrainians?
I think this is just one big boondogle before they finally try to destroy Germany.
This comment wins the internet today.
It's similar to what "the Resistance" averred about Trump in his first administration. He was simultaneously:
1) The fiendish mastermind dictator of the USA;
2) An incompetent stooge.
Well, which is it? It logically can't be both.
You nailed it
Exactly - they said ‘hey look at those Americans- they’ve been duped for decades by their government giving their politicians and contractors and NGOs loads of money and look how rich they became!’ Nothing but a big sucking sound at the expense of the citizens.

Agree.
I don't understand why Merz wants to be chancellor under these circumstances. He has already made it the most contemptible job imaginable.
Maybe he wants to be remembered forever - as the worst chancellor in German history.
Look closely at Mark Carney's resume - a glittering list of trans-Atlantic glory.
Does ANYTHING about his history look remotely ORGANIC?

Rockets are expensive. As a medical professional, I recommend 360gr of Trepanazine(R) administered intercranially.
Interesting. Surely the King Carney brain is rather smooth and any medication will simply slip off?
You have slandered Cuba!
Canada has just embraced a political coup.
Canada has become Romania by any other name.
And on top, the Zionist perfidity has Canada's sovereignty captured like "balls in a vice".
Carney IS "CITY OF LONDON."
Mr Carney is not quite 'City', since he did not manage to hang around and pick up another 'City' job. No. He was tolerated but WEF, IMF, World Bank and the UN were far a better fit for this unelectable man.
Is it carney or carnie ... ?
There is only 1 show in town, and the Ring Meister is in action.
By the way, did Just-out Trud-eau cry for the cameras on the morning or King Carney's official appointment?
> Maybe he wants to be remembered forever - as the worst chancellor in German history.
And given the competition, that would be quite the achievement!
"Congratulations sir, you have managed what many have said for decades would be impossible for all time. You have supplanted Adolf Hitler as the Worst German Chancellor in History. May God have mercy on your soul."
Queen Ursula von der Leyen is getting ready to try and do far worse than anyone in Germany or indeed, anywhere. Just look at her work in the EU27.....
Good point, that guy was really bad. But records are made to be broken!
That's one record I could live with never seeing broken. I actually *like* Germany, and would not see it torn at as if by a wounded animal yet again.

After hearing about the German army's "APCs that can accommodate pregnant women", I have to imagine that their new artillery shell factory would look something like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6U3g-h1rxQw
Bearing in mind "globalisation" together with their inherent simplistic idiocy they're maybe already ordering tanks, drones, steel etc. from Russia.
Got to stay green you see.
Does any Eu country make steel that is cheap enough to be used for weapons production?
How long would it take to start producing the items needed for weapons and given the "green Agenda" I dread to think of the cost of such production.
When politicians publish an “Election Manifesto” it behoves the electorate to believe the exact opposite.
Oh. Is that what Mr Starmer KC and his amusing Labour Party meant to do?
Well, they published a manifesto with essentially nothing in it. And the UK electorate was so fed up with the Tories that they apathetically voted them in anyway.

The title of my very favorite Isaac Asimov book, which I've been wanting to read again.
I loved the part with the triad eventually melding into a mature entity.
*We* are Estwald!
Took me totally by surprise the first time.
I was fairly young when I read it so many of the concepts were quite revelatory. Including what Dua was doing with them rocks.
Pretty racy for that time, and that author.
Quite stimulating.
Thanks for the tip! I try to get ahold of a copy.
👍
And all that just to avoid working with AfD. The second largest party in Germany.
Not quite. All that to avoid examining their belief systems which are not based on reality. Psychosis is something of an all consuming hobby.

I dunno. A few weeks ago I bought a video game about digging holes. https://store.steampowered.com/app/3244220/A_Game_About_Digging_A_Hole/. And, well, 'keep digging' was the right choice there. Maybe it is here, too?

Is that a tank which identifies as an attack helicopter?
dad just told me last week that Belgium has 2 tanks left that ride but cannot fire. they probably identify as a car?
Many giggles for that, thanks.
No, it's a tank with its gun cut off.
You're missing the brilliance of it. With 500 billion windmills, Germany will be absolutely invulnerable to Putin's weaponized eagles. He thinks he'll be able to sic the birds on you.... bam, all of them die flying into windmill blades.
I read about those tanks. Maybe only 200 of them will be within reach.
Pure, brilliant, eugyppius:
"This would entail adjustments to the debt brake, in the same way setting your house on fire would entail adjustments to your living arrangements"
Every time you think things can't get any worse…they do.
