Like Uncle Ted used to say, the only freedoms you will be allowed to have are those that do not actually hurt the system but weaken you and make you more helpless. The deviant sexual and gender decisions that are celebrated are those that cause major health and psychological issues (often life long) that will enrich Big Pharma and Big Psychology. Anything that actually strengthens an individual or his organic bonds to his community is deemed “problematic” and likely “authoritarian.” Hence why the gyms and bars were closed but the mostly peaceful protests were not as they furthered the chaos and broke down community.
I remembered Adams' words when 60% of we Swiss voted last week to extend the draconian Covid emergency measures, and to adopt "green" measures that will effectively destroy our economy in order to fight something called "Climate Change" . Even the staid, sensible Swiss have been corrupted.
I don't believe the "results" of that "referendum" for a second. The cabal does what it needs to do to persuade. If that means having a "referendum," they'll have a "referendum" [insert winky face here].
Unfortunately, Suzanne. The truth is even worse. Swiss referendums are entirely safe and secure - we have at least 4 a year. So there is no chance that the results were fixed. That means something even more terrifying: the Swiss actually WANT to be pushed around and deprived of their key human rights by their politicians. Most modern people are cowardly sheep.
Yes, that was weird. The whole love of freedom and roots in the countryside thing Switzerland had going on is clearly done. Swiss politics are settling into a similar constellation to the Germans except the designated bad party to be shunned is way larger.
His fair notice duty completed he drifted off into a psychedelic escapism trip where he eventually died in a psychedelic-induced bliss of hedonistic pleasure. As The Administrative Man, voiced by Yuval Noah Harari, intends to be our shared fate.
What you are actually talking about in terms of what the government seeks to grant is "license" not freedom. License is the freedom to act irresponsibly.
Organized groups of young, rowdy male friends of the native population is Social Managerialism's worst nightmare. Bars and gyms are where you'll find those!
Indeed! There is substantial evidence that Vitamins D and C in sufficient quantities, sunshine, exercise, and abstention from factory made food are the main components of healthy living...

Have you ever had to wait in line for hours to get your driver's license renewed at the DMV, to only have forgotten a perfunctory document?
God help us if there ever was "The Administrative Man"
"Bureaucrats can neither be hurried in their deliberations nor made to see common sense Indeed, the very absurdity or pedantry of these deliberations is for them the guarantee of their own fair mindedness, impartiality, and disinterest. To treat all people with equal contempt and indifference is the bureaucrat's idea of equity."
That's such a horrifying thought, the entire globe turned into the DMV, gawd! But it clearly is what they want. All institutions have been purged of critical thinkers, innovators, creative people, high IQ people, dissidents, and that's almost complete. Long ago I had a friend who had sort of spiritual energy ideas, and her solution was to beam pink energy at the DMV people to awaken them. It may be our only recourse lol.
In addition to that pink energy, any state could take the NJ ( of all places) route and privatize the DMV. We gave a car to a cousin a few years ago and had to go with him in his state, NJ to retitle the vehicle. We groaned. He told us it would be simple. We doubted. We went on a Saturday, no less. It took 15 minutes..
Pretty soon diversity will crack out college , welcome to Mordor @sshats this is how the rest of us have been living for decades.
That the UNIs are getting HR’d into Detroit fills me with well earned Schadenfreude, I can’t wait for Juneteenth shootouts on Harvard Yard no later than 2025.
and be sent home and come back the following day to another 2 hour or or more wait. God forbid. Last time they finally hired a few people and I waited about 15 minutes. Same at Social security, and I happened upon a knowledgeable employee. There is a God.
The administrative state doesn’t compete for customers in the real economy so they have zero concern for providing good and efficient customer service. So the service they provide can often be categorized as user cruel. The only exceptions being in some locations (mostly rural) where the work ethic is still strong and neighbors serve neighbors.
I hear myself saying more and more often, "LEAVE ME ALONE."
I pay my bills; I bother no one. Yet I'm told I can't have a gas stove, or air conditioning. I must increase my household electric bill by charging an electric car.
The invasion of finger-wagging bureaucrats telling me what my grocery cart should contain adds to this top-down bureaucratic control.
Most problems would be solved simply by dramatic reductions in the number of bureaucrats thinking of more ways to control my life.
If left to our own devices, people are capable of sensible solutions to every problem.
I would use a gas stove, but the high-end induction unit works just fine... but I cook with 3 gas appliances outside, weather permitting.
I drive a V8 4x4 pickup truck, and I defy anyone thinking their EV will have any kind of range when the temperature dips to -30°C in January here in the near north...
Our slice of Paradise often experiences minus 30/40 degree temperatures, with the accompanying late winter snow and spring mud. There is no electric vehicle produced, or planned, that will cope with these conditions. Or that can be fitted with a blade to keep our (and our neighbor's) driveways clear. So we also drive a "V8 4x4 pickup truck".
The whole emphasis on "alternative" and/or "renewable" energy is insane.
A simple application of sixth grade arithmetic easily demonstrates the utter impracticability of forcing the world into absolute reliance on half-developed technologies. Technologies totally dependent on woefully inadequate, already crumbling infrastructure. Technologies based, often, on seriously flawed assumptions and experimental engineering. And technologies, sadly, primarily controlled by our enemies - countries, cultures, and companies that DO NOT have our best interests in mind.
I wonder just where on the time line the climate nazis want the ice age to retreat. What century was it when the glaciers/temperatures/rain/drought was just right?
Let's go live on an island together with like minded people. Like you I am sick to death about being told how to live my life. At age 73 I have managed quite well and continue to do so. I don't want or need the government telling me how to live my daily life based on their current socialtial dogma.
I agree. Leave me alone. Take my taxes and put in proper infrastructure, a pension plan, housing and a semblance of medical care. Is that really too much to ask?
"He appears to live in cities or at least in towns, not in the countryside. He’s certainly an apartment dweller, and he’s more likely than not to rent. He’s actually somewhat well-off, but not wealthy; he’s older and probably not in the best of health. He leads a fairly withdrawn, local life, with limited interest in public events. All in all, it seems fair to call him a composite figure, combining features of the civil servants most responsible for this vision and of the aging voters who support the major political parties."
Brilliant characterization. However, today we need to add to this the educated Administrative Woman. She too is likely an urban apartment dweller. But she is younger and has great interest in public life. She is an activist... she is likely a lesbian although also maybe unhappy with it... trained in the nuances of Critical Theory ideology, with a real-man-hating chip on her shoulder that, if pressed, cannot pinpoint its cause or origin. She is "Karen": a creature committed to hall monitoring and control. Nosy in the affairs of everyone else... constantly bothered by any indication that the pecking order in the hen house might be dynamic and determined by individual chicken-traits and not based on her checklists.
Added together with the Administrative Man, these two make for a type of advanced and sophisticated tyranny that was easy to ignore (thus stirring up their administrative resolve) because, well, let's just say when you measure their capability with those of their working peers in the private economy, they are below the cream at the top, and are often the bottom of the barrel. This is why they stay in school longer and get advanced degrees... they fundamentally know they are not capable enough to compete effectively after launch... and so they stay in their safe campus space longer and seek a government position with much softer performance expectations and a position of power to make those other more capable classmates feel some pain.
The US system as designed called for limited government. All nations should consider that their long-term survival will require adopting the same ethos.
And the US-system-as-designed has been thoroughly perverted and subverted. I think this will happen with any system invented by humans, because of the nature of humans.

I was once on an autobahn, in my car, in the outside lane. An Audi S8 came up behind, going at least 50mph faster, aggressively flashing lights due to my impertinence of being simultaneously in the way and in a British plated car. Which was all the more remarkable because I was already doing an indicated 105mph.
I can't imagine why anyone would use a train in such a place, not when a car can go faster and take one door to door.
From what I can see, Germany does cars and roads better than anyone on the planet. It would be idiotic to ruin that in the interests of being woke.
Brave New World would have been more effective, but the predator class is too greedy to give up their profits of suffering in order to provide a "happy" dystopia.
Every time my ~85 year-old apartment building gets encrusted with some new cable or fixture – usually directly or indirectly the result of some new regulatory requirement – I think of “Brazil” and all those ducts.
10 years ago, when I would fly into Europe and rent a car, I would get either a petrol or diesel, I could be assured of electric windows, nearly always a manual transmission, and if I was lucky I was treated to a reverse camera
camera
Now, my rental car experiences involve lane assist ranging from the annoying steering vibration to an actual alarm and a message on screen telling me off (fuck you BMW), front assist where the car freaks out if I'm following too closely, or too fast. Radio "assist" where no matter what I do my radio is taken over by some voice warning me of something. GPS trackers in the car so that the rental company panics if I cross a European border without telling them. Cars that won't go into gear if seat belts aren't on. Or if a door is open. Eco messages if I have a window open. Or if I'm in a gear the car doesn't like.
This is somehow a microcosm of life, to me. Somewhere, in some windowless office, is some bureaucrat salivating at the idea of turning everyone's life into a rental car.
We are governed by clever but incompetent wankers and muppets.
We should be grateful they are generally uncomfortable with and reluctant to brazenly make use of violence and open force as past leftists regimes have. I am sure some would like to use force/violence but only the high cost of doing so has held them back thus far.
So far. However my experience in Canada tells me otherwise. We already crossed that Rubicon. The Truckers Convoy protest and how it was handled pretty much says it all. Bank accounts in this country were actually siezed for contributing to this protest and the Emergencies Act was applied.
The Emergencies Act was replaced in 1988 to replace the War Measures Act.
Sixty percent of Canadians according to polls believe it was the right decision.
The archetypical Administrative Man may not be real, but there are plenty of aspirational Administrative Men. They're easy to spot. They cannot change a tire on a car or perform basic plumbing and electrical repairs. They believe the gender pay gap is real and based on prejudice against women. They support vaccine mandates, and they believe current rules, regulations and laws targeted at reducing carbon emissions do not go far enough. They believe in overpopulation, and they are convinced humanity is doomed unless governments act immediately to limit individual choice.
I think at this point we should extend the definition of Aspirational men to all those who believe they are in charge or under the illusion they are. Perhaps to be politically correct we should say all those Aspirational People who assume they are in charge. Or perhaps to quote our most brilliant and illustrious Prime Minister of Canada Trudeau , Peoplekind.
Administrative bureaucracies run the western world nations, not elected representatives. They are chosen for their ability and natural characteristics to adhere to mass formation cult behaviour and unbending protocols, which they themselves self perpetuate. This is a universal law of human nature, that throughout history, whenever people throw off the shackles of oppressive rulers and obtain rare freedoms, something must come in to fill that vacuum of power over humanity. Freedom, so rare, turns out to be an illusion.
An amazing derivative of something you point out regarding the "one size fits all" covid rules, is that the simple solution was always right in front of us- "Advise" instead of mandate.
Even if all of the national healthcare entities had gotten everything wrong, which I believe they did, they could have mitigated all of that damage by simply advising, instead of mandating, i.e.
1- If you are age XX, we advise you do this or that, whereas
2- If you are age YY, we advise this instead.
Then, armed with that advice, everyone could have been informed, but chosen what was best for them, based upon their own situation, needs, health issues, vaccine sensitivity, etc., etc., etc.
But they didn't do that, they, instead DIRECTED that EVERYONE do everything that they said, whether you were 8, 80, sick, crippled or crazy, as the saying goes.
I regard covid and all it entailed as a warm up exercise for a further erosion of our freedom. It worked really well then, probably way beyond their wildest expectations.
Pretty much everyone caved in.
This has emboldened the future plans for an agenda that has long been in the making. Based on our compliant world wide reaction to all the covid edicts we are pretty much sitting duck's for the next chapter.
I have long wondered when the plan was hatched but I do not have the grasp of history to know beyond my years. So I selfishly surmise that the world around me is a testing apparatus for the directed evolution of homo sapiens. There is an attempt to create a collective hive in which humans can conserve energy so efficiently that one can become light. I fear this a soul trap. I think consciousness would be evaporated. Or whatever, something bad. I fear that. I wont be jabbed. I wont eat sugar nor the bugs. I wont get Elon's chip. I wont even put on the goggles. I will gladly squeegee clean the solar panels to keep those lost souls "safe" who choose that path.
If they wanted full control, they should have not been lazy and resorted to a dystopia based on 1984 .
Brave New World would have been more effective. But that requires them taking care of everybody (which they can afford without these wars and parasite wealth).
People would end up loving the system which feeds them, much like a pet who enjoys living under an owner.
This boot stomping only works for a while and it makes humanity become smarter to the machinations of the parasites that run society today.
I loved Orwell's politics. Even though he was a Communist, he called out the Russians for their authorian implementation. He called out the UK Marxists for ignoring this issue.
But they can't help it ---the "administrative man" 🤣. You see this lazy analysis and behaviour everywhere from petty DMV types to geopolitical "strategies"-- "wait didn't they use that strategy during WW2-- and it didn't work then?" 🤔
It is perplexing how the glorious FRG will often not implement those measures that would actually advance the goals it wants to achieve. Take the question of public transportation. I think it is pretty safe to say that our rulers do in fact want to get people off cars and into public transportation. The most effective measures to that end would be to address the most glaring problems of public transportation, namely capacity, reliability and security (or the lack thereof, respectively). Yet as far as I can tell, absolutely nothing is being done or planned to improve any of these things. To the contrary, it appears that things get only worse and worse for public transportation in all respects.
In light of this piece and many others by Eugyppius on the failure of our so-called experts and the administrative state that feeds such people, I thought some here might be interested in my new book, The Treason of the Experts: Covid and the Credentialed Class, just published by Brownstone.
For those wanting to know more about me or the book here are some links:

Good on you for taking care of your neighbour's plowing needs!
Here in lake country Ontario, we average only 100" snow annually. (In BC, you can get way more)
I have 2 snowblowers that take care of the driveway.
If a plow comes by, I just drive through the bank several times with the Tundra...
I've never gotten stuck...

May I suggest a small edit, Rosie, "If left to our own devices, MOST people are capable of sensible solutions to every problem".
One must exempt those deliberately obtuse obstructionists at the DMV!
OMG.
I've said for years that DMV hires exclusively from the ranks of legislators' idiot in-laws who are too dumb to work for an insurance company.
BRAVO!
Wish I could like this comment 100 million times.

Yes. It takes a sort of populist revolution to throw the bums out and retool the machinery. But in the US, the foundation supporting that is baked into the founding documents. The people just need to wake up.
The people are plenty wake , and proving they’re cowards like most of humanity.
You understand that George Washington’s peak Revolutionary Army strength was 40,000?
That the term 3% (of men were fighting) is probably optimistic?
Even 3% volunteering is in truth larger than historical norms.
The people are happy grilling and chanting Fuck Joe Biden.
Past that , sheep. Human norm.
OTOH how many motivated fighters does tyranny have?
They don’t have the military, veterans or police.
A few, not enough.
It doesn’t take many.
The US government you refer to was replaced in the 20th century.
We need to un-FDR it. Start by eliminating entire agencies.
They heard we thought so, and are eliminating us.
Loved your coupling of the Administrative Man with the Karen's. Bang on.
Reading this post reminded me very strongly of Rush's most underrated song: Digital Man:
His world is under observation
We monitor his station
Under faces and the places
Where he traces points of view
He picks up scraps of conversation
Radio and radiation
From the dancers and romancers
With the answers, but no clue
He'd love to spend the night in Zion
He's been a long while in Babylon
He'd like a lover's wings to fly on
To a tropic isle of Avalon
His world is under anesthetic
Subdivided and synthetic
His reliance on the giants
In the science of the day
He picks up scraps of information
He's adept at adaptation
'Cause for strangers and arrangers
Constant change is here to stay
He'd love to spend the night in Zion
He's been a long while in Babylon
He'd like a lover's wings to fly on
To a tropic isle of Avalon
He's got a forcefield and a flexible plan
He's got a date with fate in a black Sedan
He plays fast-forward for as long as he can
But he won't need a bed
He's a digital man
He'd love to spend the night in Zion
He's been a long while in Babylon
He'd like a lover's wings to fly on
To a tropic isle of Avalon
He's got a forcefield and a flexible plan
He's got a date with fate in a black Sedan
He plays fast-forward for as long as he can
But he won't need a bed
He's a digital man
He plays fast-forward for as long as he can
But he won't need a bed
He's a digital man
He plays fast-forward for as long as he can
But he won't need a bed
He's a digital man
He plays fast-forward
For as long as he can

They support vaccine mandates, and they believe current rules, regulations and laws targeted at reducing carbon emissions do not go far enough. They believe in overpopulation, and they are convinced humanity is doomed unless governments act immediately to limit individual choice.
I think at this point we should extend the definition of Aspirational men to all those who believe they are in charge or under the illusion they are. Perhaps to be politically correct we should say all those Aspirational People who assume they are in charge. Or perhaps to quote our most brilliant and illustrious Prime Minister of Canada Trudeau , Peoplekind.
Administrative Man, meet Davos Man.
So right. Historically true freedom for the masses is but a blip in our history and what little there was was merely an illusion.
Politics is Power
Not health
Agreed
I regard covid and all it entailed as a warm up exercise for a further erosion of our freedom. It worked really well then, probably way beyond their wildest expectations.
Pretty much everyone caved in.
This has emboldened the future plans for an agenda that has long been in the making. Based on our compliant world wide reaction to all the covid edicts we are pretty much sitting duck's for the next chapter.
100%

1984 was a Parody. Orwell himself said so
Thanks, that explains a lot.
I loved Orwell's politics. Even though he was a Communist, he called out the Russians for their authorian implementation. He called out the UK Marxists for ignoring this issue.
But they can't help it ---the "administrative man" 🤣. You see this lazy analysis and behaviour everywhere from petty DMV types to geopolitical "strategies"-- "wait didn't they use that strategy during WW2-- and it didn't work then?" 🤔
Of course it worked in WW2
DC won. 🇺🇸 yay.
What happened to the American Dream?
It came true, you’re looking at it.
