My mother in law has this gaggle of idiot COVIDian friends. She’s the only one in the group who didn’t take the jab and they’re just now finally deigning to be around her not double masked.
Anyway the vaxxie biddies keep tEsTinG pOsiTivE after their meetups and they have this whole frantic messaging to sTay sAfe and quarantine. They freaking LOVE it. It’s never going away.
What's interesting is the number of people infected is almost identical to the Diamond Princess from February of 2020. There was about 3700 people on that ship and 750 tested positive. Cruise ships are a worst case scenario floating incubator so it's quite interesting that even with all vaccinated passengers, this infection number hasn't changed at all.
Spike Protein is doing great damage undetected to the vaxxed (hence all those sudden deaths that cant be hidden). i suppose they got to keep covid scare going to blame whats coming this winter.

I will forever love you for the hilarious ways in which you give voice to our collective frustrations. The next time I am in a conversation with normies about covid (or politics) I believe I will borrow this phrase and allow it to become a stock answer. It’s so beautiful.
Can I give you some hope? My brother in-law is what I would call a hyper-covidian (we all know the type). Compulsive mask wearing (which of course required the highest quality N95 type masks). He forced his wife to wear a face shield and a mask on an airplane. 5X boosted, no social gatherings until recently, etc. My wife and I are what you might say are anti-covidians -mask wearing only when forced to, extensive travel starting in May 2020 including 20+ airline trips, large holiday gatherings including several parties we hosted at our house, vax, but no boosters. Many live music events, weddings, etc. So, recently the BIL and his wife both got Covid and my wife and I have never had it (that we know of). I believe the humiliation of doing all the right things and getting covid, while his neighbor and in-laws never got it while "doing all the wrong things" has flipped his attitude about Covid. He told me recently, "it's not as bad as the flu now, so it doesn't makes sense to worry about it".
Sometimes small incidents are huge teaching moments. I remember in the spring of 2020, reading about the Diamond Princess cruise ship "disaster," which consisted of about 700 infections and 7 deaths out of 3700 passengers. I could not believe the numbers at first. 7 people out of 3700 means the probability of dying was less than .002, or two tenths of one percent. And this was on a floating petrie dish where the mostly old and obese cruisers were prohibited from leaving the ship. That's when I first thought that something was very wrong with the panic sweeping the world. Yet the media went on as if the numbers were irrelevant. Most of my very intelligent friends bought into the narrative. In retrospect, my mental state has progressed from cognitive dissonance, to mental isolation, to a priori suspicion of practically every authority. Wonder what's next.
I have a very MAGA cousin who stopped cruising while the jabs were required, but now that they aren't, she has one planned with her mom and her son next spring. I love her to death, but even MAGA people can't seem to see that supporting businesses that "test" for this stupidity is feeding the enemy. Ugh.

I'm in Mexico City. The country has a population of, oh, 110 million people. According to "Our World in Data," there's literally a handful of weekly deaths now, somewhere between 4 and 8. The friggin' cartels are killing more people than covid. As everywhere, this place is filled with old, sick people, and many diabetes sufferers. Daily cases are as low as they've ever been during the entire pandemic. The government (FINALLY!) lifted mask requirements. You don't even have to wear them in Übers any more.
Still, a least half the people are walking around the streets wearing masks. Not only that, but they're the least effective variety.
Scaring the bejeezus out of people sure worked. But how do we un-scare them? It's just insane that people are still stuck in this groove of ridiculous fear over something that's barely worth mentioning.
Australian media has been ramping up messaging about a summer COVID variant wave. One of the northern states on the east coast is already flagging a return to mask wearing indoors. I’m not surprised this is in the media. Those of us who can see this for what it is don’t react. But I can promise you there will be more people wandering around shopping centres and doctors surgeries wearing their medical masks with fear in their eyes.

Here is how I understand it. The superstitious natives aboard the ship are frightened of an invisible evil spirit that the priests have told them could possess them at any time. To determine whether they have been possessed, a magic wand is moistened with their body fluids and subjected to a divination ritual. If it says they are possessed, they must isolate lest the spirit jump to someone else. But you can protect yourself by wearing ceremonial headgear and performing frequent ritual ablutions.
Wild guess: IFR will be 0.00%. We all can agree we just want things to stop being so stupid. But I recall some years before this debacle, I finally realized that Barnum was right - no one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the public (see Tik Tok). I adopted the credo that >>50% of folks are simply dumb, too distracted to think, too lazy to think, or too enslaved by biases to think rationally. I then realized by Summer 2020 that I was way underestimating the % of the pop in that category, and the degree to which they were mentally disabled. Let me know if you find that island.
