Apologies for the boring post, they say best way to do this is with a dedicated piece announcing the change, so that's what I did. Let me know what changes or content you'd like to see. I think it is perhaps time for a white background, for example.

Tardigrade's avatar

The background is light colored enough as long as the text is dark enough for those of us with aging eyes. Just please, keep the background a light color.

Black backgrounds are painful to read, though there are ways of circumventing it.

Please tell me how!

Hope you’re not planning to reduce your output re German politics. Thanks to you, I think I now have a much better understanding of multi-party politics, vs that of the US two party system - which I used to think needed a third or fourth party; I now realize that there’s a lot of difference in the dynamics inherent in a 2 vs 3 vs 4+ party system, and that any configuration of parties has a negative impact on representative democracies, there’s got to be a better way.

We have on the ballot now in Alaska as an amendment to abandon ranked choice voting. Each voter gets to vote for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choices, then the pointa are added up. This functions in a similar way to having multiple official parties in the EU, as this dilutes the vote of the favorite candidate, and often the second favorite person gets in. I hope the Alaskans get rid of RCV.

Be careful. You’ll be accused of being a racist AfD supporter.

Oh geez when I finally got used to this one?! I deal with change poorly.

Dear Eugyppius, I have thoroughly enjoyed your writing but I have noticed that it sometimes takes a toll from you. You writing is worth the subscription but only if you preserve yourself. The amount you write matters not...the insight is priceless. And this might only happen every now and then. I await those articles with great anticipation. Otherwise enjoy your writing and don't get stressed. From a grateful admirer.

Being in Europe, perhaps you could also comment on happenings in other European countries from a German perspective.

NL's avatar

Hmmm. Luxembourg? Or Slovenia? Nobody writes about Slovenia, and this is very unfair. They have a starter dish called Prschut.

kertch's avatar

Prchut... mmmm... sounds like prosciutto. IT IS PROSCIUTTO! Try Kremschnitt instead. It's more original.

The pleasure lies in pronunciation without all those entirely unnecessary vowels. Try it, try it, you will see.

An interesting theme is why both German and UK politics are so full of dullards- it would be difficult to say one is more stand out dull than the other. Constipated is a useful concept - unable to spit out such obvious truths such as ‘multiculturalism’ has not helped our society or ….. well no need we all know.

But such people, unthreatening as they are individually are a disaster when it’s all the system produces.

Dear eugyppius, I too have these bouts of political ennui and exhaustion. We are living in an age of madness and chaos. The culture is turning into a Fellini movie or perhaps a Dali' painting. -- Just keep writing.

Thanks, I enjoy the opportunity to understand just how stupid and retarded the whole world is! Always makes my day.

Oh dear. Yet another opportunity for me to be mistaken for a slimy sycophant.

I remember quite vividly (though not all the individual steps) of following the little breadcrumb trail on Twitter as I tried to make sense of our ominously-beginning and horrifyingly continuing Plague Era. I'm sure I found Alex Berenson first and he led me to you and each new useful crumb led me to everyone I subscribed to at first. As MSM became increasingly deranged Twitter and then Substack became my lifelines to if not firm facts at the start, at least a few rational writers and explainers and sensible questioners.

I hate that increasingly tiresome word "community" but certainly a refuge for plain speaking and persistent questioning and the heartening chemical reactions as like minds/like temperaments/like hunger for honesty and truth slowly found one another in the fertile fields of Substack. Everyone here and first and most exposedly you our host understood perhaps not the entire scope but quite vividly the reality of the dangers we faced from refusing to be good little birds opening our beaks for the worms Our Betters tried to force-feed us.

My Substack email list grew merrily and then one by one I came to understand which ones were written by lunatics; which ones were written by truly vicious people; which ones were just the usual grifting by garden-variety opportunists; and finally which ones had enduring value and whose comments threads were worth reading too.

Every one of us saw harm done to someone we love or heard of the harms done to loved ones of our made friends here.

We're real bloodied now, and none of the crap is over, but if 2024 could happen in the US there's hope for everywhere, though we must keep feeding it so it doesn't topple over. We'll always have to fight our way through idiots malicious or just astoundingly moronic.

Thank you very much for what you've given to us, though no thanks can be enough.

Absolutely agree! The podcast was great also.

I am happy to continue the subscription for the quality of eugyppius writing - and would be happy to take a cost of living increase. Many of the services I use do this without apology, and sometimes in exchange for inferior quality.

Being a tiny part of your enablement is an honour.

I’d be very interested to hear your views on the current situation in France and other countries in Europe. Can we expect to see this coming soon to Germany, or, as I suspect, does the German left not have the cojones for this type of rioting?

There are various significant developments regarding Covid and I hope you will continue to write about those.

Tardigrade's avatar

I'm still not tired of the Covid subject, yet still find whatever you decide to write about fascinating. Looking forward to future developments.

Sounds like a bargain, esp. when billed in Euros, a currency that's rapidly barreling towards zero.😱 (Dollars, too, certainly, but likely somewhat later.)
