My Vietnam vet husband and I donated money to the Swift Boat vets to help take him down when he was running for President. Best $$$ we ever spent keeping that lying fraud out of the White House. Unfortunately, the slime didn't go away. And it wasn't "a" purple heart....he managed to get THREE of them awarded in three months (most likely thanks to a helpful company clerk). Kerry refused to show his medical records because he needed to hide the fact that he was never hospitalized or treated, and he just had a band-aid on his scratches according to those who served with him. He was only in Nam for 3 months (12 weeks), but keep in mind that 2 weeks on arrival were spent on inprocessing, and 2 weeks at the end for outprocessing, so that actually leaves about 2 months riding around in a boat with a giant ice chest full of cold drinks. He got out of Vietnam in 3 months because he knew that by getting 3 purple hearts you got to go home, something most vets didn't know. Mostly to get one purple heart you went home in a box. There were guys who did get 3 purple hearts but they were in combat, not on a swift boat, out in field combat for more than just 3 months. Interesting stories of military service fraud including Kerry's are in the book "Stolen Valor" by B.G. Burkett. My husband was offered a purple heart for a hand injury but he turned it down because he knew what most vets had to suffer to get that purple heart, and he didn't feel his injury qualified him for that. So many Vietnam vets are totally disgusted and revolted by John Kerry.

It doesn't matter what part of the country you are in - our last trip was Atlanta to San Diego and the numbers were roughly the same in both airports. But, I have tried mightily to see if there is a common thread with the mask wearers and I can't come up with anything - not age, not race, not affluence (based on how they are dressed), etc. Anyone have any ideas or data?

Small tumor, caught early on screening, no lymph nodes etc. Her oncologist advised against radiation or chemo but she decided on both (and did it) 'just to be sure' which is exactly what she said. People decide that they know best and proceed accordingly, regardless of evidence/advice to the contrary which is one reason we're in the pickle we are now.

That's interesting because it sounds like her oncologist was being cautious and sensible. Unlike with the vax when all sense went out the window. I remember flipping through it and reading a section that advised doctors not to perform hysterectomies on women who were thought to be hypochondriacs. That is just plain disgusting from so many perspectives. Wasn't much better back then either, we just weren't as aware.

We must go on the offense. Mock them and name call. I met with a politician recently at a fund raiser and requested she floor a bill that mandates people wear rosary beads to stop covid and evil spirits. I brings masks to g to the doctors in my club and insist they wear them half joking. Call them shaman and science deniers.

Great idea with the rosary beads! Maybe we should let ourselves be inspired by the Plague and carry around frogs and offer them so people can press them to their runny noses and sore throats? Was supposed to help against the plague too if you put them on the boils.

Or maybe sacrifice a chicken to appease the Gods?

How about garlic? After all, it scares vampires away, perhaps it would do the same for the evil covid.

Well, since "medical doctors demand re-introduction of mask mandates", if the worst comes to the worst, I will print a couple of these infamous pictures of maskless German politicians on public transport and get them out as soon as anybody asks me to put on a mask.

I will get out my little book of maskless German politicians and say: "Look: They do this. And they ask you to police me. Is that fair? Is that what you want and expect as a German citizen?"

Maybe, if they are not too much of a Blockwart, they'll just look sad and push off.

NB: live update from German teachers and students: a few more people now wear masks than in September, but still it's a very small number. These are the real believers, and the only wear FFP2. So believers seem to have realized that the "Mundschutz" doesn't do a lot, but seem to be convinced that FFP2s will save them. And as usual, there are no discussions among staff on COVID or COVID measures, as there aren't on the energy crises or Russia/Ukraine, nothing.

Could you ask your mask monitors for their Stasi ID?

I could hiss "Maskenstasi" like an offended snake? Such a lot of sibilants.

Anyway, most "normal" people away from twitter aren't stasi, I think, which implies a level of commitment and evil intent. Most are going along to get along or save themselves some hassle. Last winter, when they had lots of 2g restrictions in shops, I usually said to the shop assistant: "If you are supposed to check my vaccination status, I really don't feel like going shopping at your shop here." Most indicated the whole thing was a hassle for them, too, but since they were required by law they felt they couldn't turn a blind eye and just let people in wihtout checking their green passes.

And this, boys and girls, is how Nazi Germany happened.

the few people who have hassled me about being unmasked were hostile but obviously terrified olds. hard to get very angry at such people.

Yes, mostly I feel sorry for them for having been scared (and, by now, probably scarred, too) so badly by irresponsible politicians.

Because I'm a grey haired 'old', I don't get hassled for not wearing a mask (mandates dropped here except in health services now but I don't wear one ever). It can work both ways!

Dear Author ,the olds are not terrified ,but terrifying when angry .

Expand full comment
Quakeress's avatar

Some of them are terrified, but I think that's just a small percentage. Many of them saw through the whole thing relatively early and never got as fanatical as the younger ones. My parents and their friends never complied with lockdown restrictions, they just met in secret......being much better off than many of the young ones, they were in a position to ignore the rules without having their neighbours from the next apartment snoop at them.

This is one of the big mysteries how the young ended up being so compliant and the old ended up so defiant.

“It’s long become clear that nobody—not even the politicians most in favour of mandates—believes that masking is worth the trouble.”

I’m on an NYC subway right now, and many people are masked. It’s no longer required, even in the unenforced way it had been, and the majority – though not an overwhelming majority – are unmasked, so it’s not a matter of blatant social pressure.

It’s possible there’s some performative thing going on with some of these people I’m not aware of, but I can’t see this as anything other than a superstition that has been successfully and broadly implanted. Permanently, is my guess.

Do you think that 'Snake Oil' is less accurate now that the Chinese have persisted with Zero Covid i.e. their plan to disable us as well as them has now back-fired, due to their need to maintain 'face' with the Chinese people?

Also, I've started running again. I used to be a really decent runner when I was younger but became idle. I haven't followed your schemes or anything but I'm doing a half-marathon tomorrow (on my own, not a planned event) so thanks for your-BAP style inspiration. Rulers don't consider it hypocrisy, just privilege. Germs are for the dirty little people. That's why it's important to limit the terms of all our rulers, at all levels, by statute or by electoral choice. We tolerate a ruling class because we're lazy and stupid. When they oppress us, it's because we allow it. Too many seem to prefer it.
