Aren't exit polls likely to undercount the AfD vote, as people are reluctant to tell pollsters they voted "ultra right?" This was a contributor to so many pollsters getting the Trump victories wrong.
Will there come a point at which the penny drops for the Union parties and they begin to understand that their wonderful Brandmauer is a device for keeping the multi-party left in power and emasculating them? Every electoral iteration makes the AfD stronger and the CDU/CSU weaker.
Thought experiment: what if the election threshold was raised to 7.5 or 10 percent? How would that affect German “democracy“ - which to me seems to be an artificial construct, that doesn’t actually effect what Germans want or need.
What is the deal with Muslims voting? Do refugees or asylum seekers get to vote in the jurisdictions where they are situated? Do non German citizens vote? What is the process to become a German citizen? Do they take an oath of allegiance?
As I read it AfD are bound to be the opposition in Meck-Pomm and I wonder what rights or powers that will give them. Funding? Veto on policy? Committee chairmanships - what?
As long as the centre-left and centre-right parties fail to address the very valid issues of the general populi, the far-left and far-right are going to gain voters.
