I know this is my third post in a week on the latest Covid-Upsurge-Will-Kill-Us-All media vaccine promotion campaign, but it’s driving me unreasonably crazy.
Eugyppius slayed me with this line: "That’s no grounds to relax for NYU Assistant Professor of Population Health Anna Bershteyn and her enormous forehead. "
Also less attractive "experts" tend to be very pro-masking motivated by their desire to mask their more attractive competetition and prevent being constantly reminded of their own giant forehead and extra long nose, er. unattractiveness.
As awful as that face is, requiring a mask would get in the way of the solution I propose that's already been ruled lawful. I'm an advocate for a return of facial covering bans. Upheld by the International Human Rights Courts rulings, as recently as 2019, that we have "the right to interact with someone by looking them in the face and about not disappearing under a piece of clothing." Unobstructed human faces were declared a human right!! Just reimpose these laws. And pass them in the US. But make sure there's no emergency exception this time. It's not like they actually work and protect anybody from any emergency. Always just theater. The only way to reclaim injured minds from government mandated insanity is government mandated sanity.
Bans on *any* facial coverings, including masks. Reported as "burqa bans." But the law specifically included masks, all facial coverings. Prohibited. Period. Violations were fined. As recently as August, 2019. Just months before they were mandated.
"Judges at the European court of human rights (ECHR) have upheld France's burqa ban, accepting Paris's argument that it encouraged citizens to "live together". The law, introduced in 2010, makes it illegal for anyone to cover their face in a public place...the law was not aimed at the burqa or veil but any covering of the face in a public place... ...The European judges decided...that the preservation of a certain idea of "living together" was the "legitimate aim" of the French authorities. Isabelle Niedlispacher, representing the Belgian government, which introduced a similar ban in 2011 and which was party to the French defence, declared both the burqa and niqab "incompatible" with the rule of law. Aside from questions of security and equality, she added: "It's about social communication, the right to interact with someone by looking them in the face and about not disappearing under a piece of clothing." The French and Belgian laws were aimed at "helping everyone to integrate", Niedlispacher added."
Burqa bans, headscarves and veils: a timeline of legislation in the west
"On August 1, 2019, the “Act Partially Prohibiting Face-Covering Clothing,”also known as the “Burqa Ban,” entered into force in the Netherlands. The Act prohibits the wearing of clothing that completely or partially conceals the face in spaces where people are expected to communicate with each other. Thus, face-covering clothing is banned on public transportation and in educational, governmental, and nursing care institutions, but is still allowed in such public spaces as on train platforms. The ban applies to burqas, niqabs, full-face helmets, balaclavas, and masks, but not to headscarves."
Bans on masks, all across Europe, laws prohibiting any facial covering in public, shopping, transportation, workplaces, anywhere people would gather - Illegal!! The headlines said "burqa bans." the laws said no facial coverings, not even masks in public. Illegal!! Re-adopt in Europe Adopt in the US. Problem solved.
I am thinking open ridicule in public should happen more. I was at Schiphol airport this morning and a thin white head girl type walked by with a double mask. Had not seen one for a while. Wanted to say: "Just keep it up. Two more weeks, just two more weeks..." But did not, as I was at security. But think we have to move it in this direction.
Fair comment. We know that a comment on a person's physical appearance has no bearing on the intellectual discourse. Mockery of a physical feature is no different than the drawn caricature. It's of limited value, but can be amusing. (From one pseudonym-guy commenter to one pseudonym zoomorphised commenter, oh wise barn owl).
Well... perhaps there is reason to fear for *some* of the vaxxed.
Geert Vandenbossche [spelling?] has said that many of the vaxxed are facing immune system destruction, and that many could die due to a variant late this summer/ early fall. Is he correct? IDK. There are so many variances in terms of vaxx manufacturer, vaxx components, how many vaxxes have been administered and so on.
Of course, it is more than likely that these terrified people WILL take the latest vax proposed by Big Pharma, and that could end their lives even soon. Once again... IDK.
Yes! Taleb said "panic early!" which was a mistake. He was wrong. The panic was the problem. They know this and it can be gamed. Some allege ALS Ice Bucket challenge was a social manipulation feeler to see "how ready they are" it's an interesting theory.
Wait, if you have a common cold AND are hit by a bus...
We should clearly find a dangerous, experimental injection that makes colds & bus-hit injuries feel less bad but in no way whatsoever inoculates one from either.
If you have a cold and are hit (and die) by a bus then obviously the bus had nothing to do with your death. So we just need a shot against the cold, the bus thing isn't really important. That's how it works in covid world.
We should also continue to fund bus crashing labs in foreign countries for 30 mil a year. Find ways to make buses crash more, so we can ultimately make them crash less
If you have an anxiety disorder and are out of touch with reality, the mainstream press is happy to spread your claptrap far and wide. If you are a realist who sticks to the facts, the press will never publish a word you say. This is why the mainstream media is dead. People reading it don't realize that they are looking at a corpse.
Precisely this. It is an extension of the observation that traditional moderate conservatives often argue against a thing using reality. The hard left often appeal to emotion. People like the emotion. These virus people are just trying to save lives etc. A hard look at data and facts takes much more effort to present and read.
Well unfortunately these people are testing again! My brother and his whole family tested and even ran to the emergency room They are all vaxxed up and now they are all on paxlovoid even though we told the wife don’t use paxlovoid Just use vit b,c, d , zinc and quercetin . Even though we told them it’s just like a cold or flu . Now she keeps writing us how bad it is and her throat hurts so bad But I bet she’s happy she vaxxed and after this one I’m sure she will run out and get the next booster cause it saved her from being hospitalized!!
This thing is never going away because there are so many people out there like this!! It’s devastating esp when it’s people you love😢
Check out the benefits of oregano oil. You might want to add that to your regimen. Powerful antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal. Been taking it for years. I swear by it.
One of my daughters has caught covid 3 times now and stopped after the second jab! She knows it’s covid without testing because she feels so sick and also said her throat was so unbelievably sore. This last time she was taking part in a wedding so was around 100+ people and she and her husband are very socially active so that could be why she keeps getting exposed to it but I’ll recommend what you suggested to your brother’s wife thank you!
I keep hoping that eventually the effects of the vaccine will wear off and people will develop full and robust immunity. I had original covid. I was very sick. And I've never had it again in 2.5 years. I am out in public, exposed to large amounts of people multiple times a week - and don't care if someone is sick or not. I also helped care for family when they had covid and even with that close exposure never got sick again. (I did feel like I was fighting it off though after caring for them - so maybe that close exposure strengthened my immunity. Family had whatever the UK strain is called now because they were caught up in the big panic about the "new strain". sigh) Side note - none of my family is vaccinated, everyone has had it - some with symptoms and some with out (we checked antibodies to know) and nobody has been sick with it again. So pretty large pool of people with varying health including one who is high risk and it seems immunity lasts quite well in the absence of the vaccine.
Thank you!!! My daughter is currently living in Northern California… she should be able to access it in the US? Haven’t looked here in Canada but with Trudeau I’m not feeling positive we can get it. I will look up these two doctors, thank you again!
I’ve wondered from time to time if too much quiche and tofu actually do contribute to low testosterone androgyny in what passes for many men these days. It’s what crosses my mind whenever I see some beta boy sporting a twa....er, man bun.
Carry on....it's important work you are doing here. And I am being literal and serious. "Part of me thinks that nobody should be interviewing this ridiculous woman, and another part of me wants everybody to interview her. Please, please make this stupid assistant professor the new face of Forever Covid Panic."
If the premise that a well-nurtured immune system that has been exposed to any pathogenic virus will forever remember it or any descending variant and dispatch it forthwith is correct, most of us have nothing to fear from Covid, again.
Ridicule, Alinksky's Rules for Radicals: #5. Ridicule is man's most potent weapon. There is no defense. It is almost impossible to counterattack ridicule. Also it infuriates the opposition, who then react to your advantage."
It works. We who disagree should try it more often.
I could not stop thinking of "giant forehead" as I read the rest of your article, and it distracted me and tickled me so much that I had to go back and read the entire post again.
It's a slow afternoon, so I emailed the Dr. with the large forehead the following:
Dear Dr. Bershteyn,

Oh, what a ride New York has been on! With the recent surge of cases by 55%, I’m starting to wonder if this is our new state pastime. It makes you miss the simpler times when the only worry was finding the remote to binge another season on Netflix, right?
I recently read your comments in the NY Post, and I must say, you have a flair for the dramatic. Your chilling revelation, "The most frightening thing is if the virus was more deadly,” has left me pondering: Is that truly scarier than a world without almond milk lattes? But I digress.
Drawing a parallel between the transmissibility of COVID and the deadliness of MERS? Sounds like a plot straight out of Stephen King’s desk. But fear not! For your spine-tingling thoughts are just what New Yorkers need during the sweltering summer heat.
Now, onto the topic of testing. Your keen observation, “Without testing, it will be hard for people to know if what they have is COVID,” was groundbreaking. And here I was, thinking that sneeze was from last night’s pepper overload or the pollen-laden breeze!
Ah, the saga of the Paxlovid antiviral. It's heartwarming to know “we actually have no supply problems.” It's reminiscent of those mornings when you have a box of cornflakes but no milk to pour over them.
And lastly, I tip my hat to your impeccable mathematical acumen when you noted, “1 out of every 100 deaths is still something.” Truly, Pythagoras would be proud.
Stay vigilant, Dr. Bershteyn, for who knows what the next variant—or coffee shortage—might bring!
Wishing you the best in all your endeavors (and mathematical revelations).
Mock away. These people deserve nothing less. When scientists such as Geert suggested the possibility of the virus becoming both more transmittable and more deadly because of the mass vaccination of those that didn't need it, they were dismissed and jeered as conspiracy theorists. Give these hysterical hypocrites some of their own medicine.
You know that lousy lazy line that shows up, eventually, in every single movie no matter the plot:
"You believe me, don't you? You've got to believe me!"
Chicken Little should've been fried and eaten forthwith and not given any further chance to run around squawking. But we have, as you state, mockery and ridicule with which to turn all these fools into mush. The sooner the better.
I shall henceforth remember this article as "the scourge of the unfeasibly large forehead" 😀
The planet is boiling and there's viral doom awaiting in every millilitre of unbreathable air. If you really must go outside remember to mask up and take your flippers and snorkel with you - just in case there's a flash flood. And keep scanning the skies because even if by some remote chance you escape having the skin of your forehead melt into your eyes and the virus by some miracle manages to get through that mask then you could be taken out by a falling UFO.
Sir, even when unreasonably crazy (slightly tautological?), your articles are excellent, as is your prose. Keep at it! Perhaps you will be our Edmund Gibbon - "The Decline and Fall of Western Civilisation" your magnum opus?
If the pandemic has taught us anything it's that the people to be most frightened of are the people who are the most frightened.
Eugyppius slayed me with this line: "That’s no grounds to relax for NYU Assistant Professor of Population Health Anna Bershteyn and her enormous forehead. "

This thread just keeps getting gooder and gooder.

True, but El Gato Malo does a great job too.

There was a study in Korea that found masks were useless and that people who were “less attractive” preferred to continue to wear masks.
Makes sense to me.
That was also our theory about the burka when I was working the Mideast.
Also less attractive "experts" tend to be very pro-masking motivated by their desire to mask their more attractive competetition and prevent being constantly reminded of their own giant forehead and extra long nose, er. unattractiveness.
people who don't want to brush their teeth too. How can they smell that all day wearing those masks?
On the occasions I was forced to, I kept smelling my favorite foods. I almost gave up salad.

It’s almost like she has a physical trait or two that could tell us more…
And let's make it mandatory.
But it would have to be a mask that covers that frontal protruberance...

“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself”: from FDR’s first inaugural address.
Turns out we had a great deal to fear from FDR too. That was the part we didn't learn in school.
That part I learned from my parents (and grandparents) who had suffered under the prig.

Never underestimate the destructive power of frightened people in large numbers.

They do indeed.

What's scarier than any pandemic, is looking at that lady's face. I'm having nightmares and I'm not even asleep.

Great point
'it would be "really scary" if Covid "was as deadly as the MERS coronavirus"'
Things are only scary if they are BOTH 1. Very contagious and 2. 'Deadly' (= high IFR).
Getting hit by a bus is #2 but not #1. Common cold is #1 but not #2.
Wait, if you have a common cold AND are hit by a bus...

I’m here to say I really like your handle.
A coronavirus is a coronavirus. A biological warfare agent is another thing.
Sorry, I don't see how that applies to my comment.
Why did it have to?
Because you directly replied to it.
And you are carrying on the same premise.
I remember reading about Covid "lurking around the corner", but what if it really had the power of invisibility, WHAT THEN?!?!?!?
It would be really scary if Covid were really scary.
Well, it is scary, it's a mind f**k.
Oh, no, it’s the Black Death 2.0! 🥱
That's pretty much the popular view of Covid ;)
Let's see, now, how many of us who read Eugyppius died of MERS?
About as many as died of covid, therefore, covid really is as deadly as MERS in covid world.

It all goes back to the participation trophies: you win as long as you tried, outcomes aren't important.
The zombie press. I like it. I guess the living dead would be needing their own media.
Question: What do you call a zombie who doesn't realize they are a zombie?
Answer: "Woke"
Well unfortunately these people are testing again! Agree with your prescription.
I would add a multivitamin and krill oil.
I take this every morning, since April 2020.
NoCovid/Flu or cold.
Dr Zelenko's protocol...
Check out the benefits of oregano oil. You might want to add that to your regimen. Powerful antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal. Been taking it for years. I swear by it.
I will, thanks!

Vaxxed people have allowed their innate immunity to be destroyed. They will never recover it.
Never say never, many worldwide now working on ways to rid the body of the spike protein.
If she is open to the idea, get her on some spike protein detox pills. A few out there, from Zelenko and McCullough. It may help.
Ivermectin is the best if you can get it online through Dr Stella or Dr haider

and now the FDA has said it is okay to prescribe for Covid
IMHO she keeps getting covid because she got jabbed. Her immunity is probably damaged

Dear Dr. Bershteyn,
Greetings! I hope this letter finds you navigating the murky waters of our current COVID rollercoaster with the same enthusiasm and fervor with which you've been conveying your concerns.
