One suspects the susceptible population is somewhat less than "all of us"

I've not come across anything so far which would falsify the hypothesis that monkeypox has been low level endemic in the west among a subset of promiscuous gay and bisexual men, and that the rapid increase in case diagnosis is an artefact of increased awareness and testing

i think this is exactly right – closest relatives are viruses from old 2018/2019 outbreaks seeded from nigeria. it probably picked up right before corona, circulated in the shadows and now they're just discovering it

Which, as a side benefit, would mean that corona measures were completely useless haha

Apparently, monkeypox has only become so active in Africa because of HIV - it appears to be another opportunistic infection that takes hold in a person with a compromised immune system.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17661673/

Well, we all know of some medical procedures that have recently become widespread, that seem to be causing immune dysfunction....

One of the most interesting things I've read lately was a discussion archived on some distant corner of the internet concerning an epidemiological analysis of the early stages of the AIDS epidemic in the early 80's.

Basically, the population of gay men in Europe and North America was so extremely promiscuous back then (and still is), that at any point in time these men had multiple infections of viruses, STD's, and parasites in their bodies, not to mention the regular introduction of bodily fluids from do many other individuals every day, to such a degree that their immune systems were constantly overly stimulated and weakened. And it wasn't HIV itself that caused AIDS to develop, rather HIV was just a pathogen that eventually pushed the immune system over the edge. They developed AIDS because their lifestyle was so damaging to their immune systems to begin with.

In other words, while HIV wasn't a gay-specific infection, the development of AIDS was exacerbated by the the risk factors inherent in the gay lifestyle in the first place that didn't apply to most normal and healthy people in the general non-gay male population.

I found the discussion to be quite illuminating, not to mention the way the health establishment 40 years ago was just as dissembling and mendacious then as it was in the past couple of years (Fauci in the house!). They did much of the same thing then as they did for covid, in proclaiming for political purposes and self-interest that what was clearly mostly just a risk to a specific subset of the population was a serious threat to everyone.

Expand full comment

in the 80s they were using an extraordinary number of recreational drugs, including the highly toxic 'poppers', ampules of amyl nitrate, during sexual activity. They destroyed their immune systems with it, then Fauci finished them off with deadly AZT. They 'contact traced' their partners and talked them into starting AZT to 'prevent AIDS'.

Expand full comment

Rolling Stone did a great article about the AIDS epidemic when it first started, interviewing many gay men who were dying. One of the things in the article was that the average number of sexual partners of gays in large urban areas that were surveyed by the CDC was around 1200.

Expand full comment

This is an old theory which was discarded shortly after the discovery of the HIV virus, which took a couple of years to find. While theoretically attractive, it's wrong. Everyone's immune system is constantly fighting off all manner of infections. Right? How long does meat stay fresh in the fridge? Not long as it no longer has a functioning immune system.

Interesting take. I would quibble about the parenthetical "and still is", though. I remember very well how aggressively promiscuous gay males infested public places in the 1970s and 1980s, hitting on strangers. That all seemed to evaporate in the late '80s and '90s, as consciousness of AIDS took over, and the LGBT organizations looked to re-market themselves as advocates of responsible sex, handing out condoms and such. Since the 1980s, I've really seen very little evidence of gay promiscuity in public. What little I know of them, they seem about as sexually self-controlled as straight people now.

Expand full comment

All the surveys I've come across suggest gay men have way more sexual partners on average than any other demographic. Maybe the number is lower than it was pre-AIDS, but it's still significantly more than straight men tend to have.

Expand full comment

Hiya, I think is Aids entirely caused by lifestyle (and poverty and malnutrition in other countries). It cannot in any case by sexually transmitted as it is only associated with the frequency of receptive anal sex. (semen is very oxidising and the anus is very thin). Aids is a disease of oxidation. Kaposi sarcoma and PCP are known to be caused by nitrate (popper) inhalation.

The young men were also heavy drugs users and had very little sleep and poor nutrition.

The worsening of symptoms was caused by the failed chemotherapy drug AZT, which was also highly oxidising and toxic.

I've written a little about this here and the two films linked are pretty compelling https://georgiedonny.substack.com/p/the-importance-of-intellectual-freedom?s=w

I had friends that ended up debiltated by HIV/AIDs back in the dark ages. I can recall them lamenting some parties they had attended. At least the current stuff is not as deadly.

Expand full comment

My word. Of course they couldn't practice "Just say No". It looks as though this is the second male-homosexuals-only VD; AIDS/HIV in early 80's, monkeypox now 40 years later. But no one tells them to lay off anal sex. Just like nobody tells an alcoholic to stop drinking because it's killing him?

Expand full comment

HIV remains with us but is no longer a death sentence. Given that the sex drive is second to eating/hunger, we likely will still see people behave foolishly. A lot of people tell them to lay off but people are still people. HIV at the time was a silent new killer in the pantheon of disease associated with promiscuous sex.

That "less than 'all of us'" is the crux of the problem. "All of us" must be the focus of any mitigation activity, otherwise some smart-alecky observer might "notice" and connect the dots between cause and effect. Noticing is how we humans make distinctions, make decisions, and take precautions against the risks of day-to-day living.

But such distinctions lead to choices amongst myriad behaviors--yet the one thing you cannot do is discriminate diverse lifestyle choices. In fact, you're required to champion diversity, and be inclusive of all, so best not to do any noticing of these differences arising from diversity. After all we're all the same, and we're "all of us" in this together. Right?

/snark off.

AIDs was, I think, the start of Political Correctness. "We know that this virus is endemic in a certain population, but we can't say that or tell them to curtail their promiscuous sexual activities because it will hurt their feelings."

Or maybe.... it was to keep homosexuality as a viable and attractive "option" for people, to stop population growth.

Yes, I know. Crazy.

Expand full comment

Correct! We will never see public health authorities say, “Just 2 weeks of no gay sex to flatten the curve.” We will never ask this group to modify their behavior “to save grandma.”

No not crazy. I was a young mother when the AIDS news came out and was shocked at a child's friend mentioning it--not to be spoken of in the hearing of a 7 year old! Have noted the rise of in-your-face pro-homosexuality now trans stuff coinciding with the self-appointed gods wailing about over-population. Obviously those who choose to use their reproductive facilities in non-reproductive ways will not be contributing to population. Unless, like Dave Rubin you con/pay/arrange to get a baby produced for you. Loved the guy, but this is the end of the road. Any babies coming that way, in my mind, are chattel--bought, paid for.

Except that male homosexuality has no effect on population growth, since only women have babies.

We must KILL all the monkeys!

Expand full comment

Clearly culling the world monkey population is the only way out of this. It's us or them.

Expand full comment

Killing them might be too extreme. All monkeys should wear masks in indoor public settings. THey will have to get jabbed or else will not be able to fly or eat in restaurants. The monkeys that are currently employed in circuses and zoos will have to get jabbed or be turned out back into the jungle to fend for themselves. thats the science ;)
