Fascinating results. This is also consistent with terrain theory - that symptom and mortality spikes in the winter are due to weakened immune systems more than they are due to greater viral prevalence. This also has implications for the excess mortality observed over the last couple years. Numerous studies have pointed out that the death spikes seem to correlate with the adoption of particularly stringent lockdowns, mask mandates, etc. The non-pharmaceutical interventions weakened immune systems, thereby leading to more deaths than we'd otherwise have had.

The immune systems of sugar-addicted obese Americans who only eat processed garbage 3 times a day were already on the fritz. So yeah, combined with stringent lockdowns, toxic chemical-infused masks, etc. creates the perfect storm for all sorts of illnesses, not just Covid.

Expand full comment

My favourite narrative line was the position taken after it became clear that obesity was a leading risk factor: since Americans are obese, that justifies the lockdowns. Notably, no one in offialdom suggested that maybe Americans should take steps (heh) to lose poundage, or clean up their diets, or make any other lifestyle alterations that would have positive effects well beyond increased resistance to COVID symptoms. Instead, they pursued policies that led to the average millenial packing on 40 lbs in 2020. Oh and those of us who aren't fat bastards? Tough, gyms are closed, stay inside for the sake of the fats.

Expand full comment

For sure. It still shocks me that none of these so-called "experts" and mainstream journalists mention strengthening the immune system internally through diet, exercise, etc. It's all about their focus on dangerous outside interventions to relieve the symptoms, never the root cause. Of course, and that's why they don't work. And if you dare mention obesity as a high risk factor, you're accused of "fat shaming." Love him or hate him, Bill Maher is the only one I've seen in the mainstream (well sort of mainstream) who keeps hammering home this point.

I was VERY alarmed that the federal government did NOT run public service announcements on that like they do on so many things. When I mentioned that in chatting with others, most thought they (the "government") might fear "offending" over weight people. However, that made NO SENSE to me since they never feared "offending" smokers... the government has been running anti-smoking announcements for YEARS so, there was "some other" reason to not immediately urge people to loose weight, add as much fresh food as they could, get outdoor exercise, etc. Just as that really started to bother me, my STATE government (Florida) did begin to run such public health service announcements about loosing weight, and also (instead of closing DOWN) urged people to get OUTSIDE and take advantage of the public beaches, bike and walking trails, canoe and kayaking streams, etc. etc. Was really happy to see that ! Friends in Illinois said NO such advice there even at the height of the "pandemic", no hints are what you could do to help self ! Guess it didn't "fit the agenda" there ? ?

It would make way too much sense to promote well being (vitamin D, Zinc, excercise, sunshine, etc) for PUBLIC HEALTH. Which is the big tip off to the whole scam & real agenda

Thankfully, our governor AND our surgeon general in FL had a very different take on how people could take some personal responsibility (action) to improve their own changes of escaping Covid. A few locations tried (for a couple weeks) to close up beaches, etc. etc. but didn't make sense to our state administration seeing that all medical "experts" did agree that natural vitamin D is definitely preferable over supplements IF available, so really encouraged getting OUTSIDE, rather than mandatory lock in's... LOL, felt lucky about that !

IL politicians have too many ties to the reset. Pritzker is an interesting name to research and turns up a bunch of very rich bastards who have varying roles in the Great Reset and Transhumanism.

Poor IL. I grew up there and still love the state, but I am so glad I ran away from home back in the 80's. The west coast has it's problems, but IL is crazier and more corrupt than CA if such a thing is possible.

Probably quite true, provided you compare area to area within the two states; rural agricultural IL is much different than Chicago and suburbs, believe it is similar in Calif., so understand that. I think doctors shirk their duty with obese patients. My sister in law is probably 75 to 100+ pounds overweight. Due to her weight, she doesn't like to walk around and she gets zero exercise. So she goes to her doctor and he says "You should lose weight." And that was it. No referrals to places to lose weight, no suggestion to go see a dietician, NOTHING other than that one short sentence. Duty done from the doctor's point of view, I guess.

Expand full comment

Yes, I think that must be it. In the last couple years since retirement, I've become much more aware of just how dangerous and nearly "impossible" the weight situation really is. I always hesitate to even have an opinion since I've never had any problem with weight, so makes it difficult. But now, I am having personal experiences; lost one very good friend of "covid" nearly a year ago now. Very over weight, diabetes, and WAS at referred to a nutritionist, went for instruction, menus, etc. but never made any real changes. She never really made any serious changes. I could write at least 4 other stories, watched close family member actually lie, hide, make up reasons to leave in the automobile to get fast food and go park somewhere to eat it before returning to her home, hubby, and children. This is an addiction, as strong as any other drug or nicotine. It would be helpful if doctors did at least try a bit more, and perhaps some do, but many also know how strong an addiction to food can be. One last example, husband of very close friend used to "hide" in the garage pretending to "work" on something, fix this or that item or repair something, but actually was a rouse to eat hidden candy bars kept in a sack in the workshop drawer that contained many other brown paper sacks of various sized NAILS. Sometimes also hid treats from a bakery by putting the bakery (white) sack INSIDE a brown bag like the different nails and other hardware sacks. He passed away from diabetes complications soon after retirement... he and wife had many plans for travel, etc.

I live in Ohio, our idiot governor was on television EVERY DAY with his chief health care person. "Notably, no one in offialdom suggested that maybe Americans should take steps (heh) to lose poundage, or clean up their diets, or make any other lifestyle alterations that would have positive effects well beyond increased resistance to COVID symptoms."

The big problem with that is: for decades the government has been advocating what they purport to be a good diet, and every doctor will encourage people to exercise. Yet we get fatter and fatter. The dietary advice has been bad, thanks to industrial influences and the overall decline in the quality of science. Nutritional science is abysmal.

Agree, maybe just didn't fit the "narrative" as they say ... ? Also, K Street lobbyists maybe ? Add CORN syrup to EVERYTHING must benefit someone right ? Adding really EXCESSIVE amounts of sodium to EVERYTHING, even to cereal ??? Must benefit someone, right ? It goes on, and on, and on, and THEN to add insult to injury, the media blasts that inner city residents don't have access to nutritionally healthy food, there fore their health suffers more, as a group they suffer greater percentage of obesity, etc. etc. Well, let's apply "critical" thinking, we use that term "critical" all the time now. So let's see, we close up most stores with fresh produce in the cities (too much crime, too much accepted and UN-reported and UN-punished, theft), we intentionally "guide" the population toward "shopping" for their food from small combo fuel, tobacco, and "food" stores (canned soup nearly 100% sodium, chips, small cakes and donuts in packages, soda in GIANT cups, dried beef jerky, etc. and why ? With the INTENT that this will become the "average" balanced meal, a powdered sugar doughnut and a soda ? Have seen that in the hands of VERY young students EVERY morning as they are given a small amount of money and told to get some breakfast on the way to school ! We have a LOT of problems in this country in addition to Covid, and everyday we take in literally THOUSANDS MORE people with very little knowledge of nutrition, cleanliness, health maintenance , and we can't even handle educating the population we have NOW. Have taken out "cooking" and nutrition classes which used to be standard in junior high, not just high school, we have so little classroom time, and the choices our parents seem to have made about what THEY want their local schools to teach is at best, abysmal !! Nice to have time for "multi-cultural" studies, yes, of course, but, NOT when your people can't read, can't budget, have NO knowledge of nutrition, or basic body cleanliness habits... have you SEEN how many people don't even know to wash their HANDS ? My children's TEACHERS used to stand IN the restrooms and would not let one child "escape" without washing hand WITH SOAP, for at least 20 seconds ! Now we are hiring people in food establishments who do not even KNOW you must wash hands after using a restroom ! It is NOT "they", the "government", WE are inflicting all this OURSELVES ON OURSELVES by allowing this. "WOKE" should mean to actually WAKE UP PEOPLE !

Corn syrup is added because it's a flavor enhancer, it's cheap, and it's readily available. Sugar is added for the same reason (but it's more expensive). Food companies sell what people want, and have to abide by all sorts of regulations (many of them stupid). They're not blameless, but when our culture demands packaged and processed foods and they have to produce things that taste good while abiding by various regulations, this is what you come up with. Cooking your own food is always better, but most people refuse to do it.

To be fair, at the very beginning that made some sense. When people could think death tolls were going to be high very soon, what good would saying "stop being obese" have done? You can't go from obese to healthy in a few days or weeks. When time is of the essense and focusing on one simple message is important, recommending long-range lifestyle changes would have struck most people as useless. Everyone would have demanded, "What can I do NOW??"

Of course, that doesn't mean what most politicians and health policy people actually did do was correct, and at any rate that original panic should not have lasted long. The message about obesity (along with Vitamin D deficiency and other messages) should have been HUGE. It should have been a wake-up call for many countries.

Actually, about 75% of humans can get a significant reduction in inflammation "propensity" very rapidly with the right changes in diet. That same 75% can also greatly raise their inflammation level and propensity to inflammation rapidly with a single bad meal or snack (heavy in sugars and starches). Yes, for the best results, you need to get your BMI down out of the overweight/obese ranges and that takes time, but a substantial improvement can be achieved very quickly. Most people will notice change within a day or two, and at the end of a month there will be major changes for the better in a variety of aspects of health. If you want detailed information, medical researcher Barry Sears's book "The Zone" is a good introduction and his later book "The Age-Free Zone" goes into exhaustive detail.

So MANY things "could" be done if there was serious effort, palm oil ! It goes on and on, sodium ? My physician wants his patients to keep DAILY sodium TOTAL to LESS than that in one fast food hamburger or one frozen dinner ! One big mac and you've had the max for one and one half days, so nothing else that day but sodium free food... and even fresh fruits and vegetables have "some" sodium. Enough the doctor says to keep the electrolyte balance just fine, don't need to add sodium to everything as we do here. A HALF cup of commercial spaghetti sauce can have as much as 500mg (some brands), now who uses a true half cup only ? Yes, we could do a great deal...but then, there are those lobbyists on K Street !

I don't salt my hamburgers except a sprinkle of Tajin. (About 75 mg Na. I put more salt in my steel-cut oats; about 400 mg Na.)

Though I like to munch palm nuts (about 1 a year), not sure what you imply about (now unavailable) palm oil. Many things could be said about sodium, and while it can cause water retention, and thus HBP, I don't believe it contribute to obesity (meaning excessive fat rather than water, though BMI makes no distinction) other than as an appetite stimulant. Beware photosensitization if you take amiloride. (Basis of potassium-sparing diuretics) Chloride has just as much effect on BP as does sodium, so those KCl and CaCl2 salt substitutes may not be as efficacious as you might think. And certainly don't use more than a very small amount of lithium chloride, though it tastes far better than sodium chloride. (You don't want the blood concentration of lithium to exceed about 0.25 micromolar, and only that much if you seek the psychiatric effects.) Just keep your electrolytes (chloride, too) close to normal ranges. Sorry if TMI.

Not TMI at all ! Pretty much seems to agree with my comments that blood balances are very important, and our (packaged and pre-prepared) could certainly do a LOT to improve "nutrition" ! I personally shun KCI and CaC12 products, but, I am sure there are patients to whom their physicians recommend. The comment that sodium can not contribute to obesity, I don't agree with completely, but that's not at all important to the topic of nutrition. One other consideration, the USA is a HUGE consumer of blood pressure medications that are diuretic ! This opens up another whole field of discussion that "could" have a casual relationship to the excessive amounts of salt used in production of almost all prepared foods.

Also did some reading on the effect from constant use of sun blocking lotions on the alarming rate of females showing vitamin D deficiency and repressed immune systems (this was ramping up prior to "covid" scare.

It is also proposed that in Winter, because of central heating and lack of ventilation, the air becomes dehumidified and this aids respiratory viruses and bacteria because it dries out the airways. Nasal mucus is the first line of defence against respiratory viruses/bacteria, it traps them and they drain down the throat or are expelled in nasal discharge. If it is reduced then so is our defence against bugs. Also in Winter we spend more time indoors in groups.

Expand full comment

Interesting. I'd come across precisely the opposite hypothesis: that in winter, in the outdoors, there is a generally higher level of humidity that leads to the greater persistence of airborne virii, combined with the reduction of the UV radiation that would destroy them in summer, and that this is the reason for higher rates of symptomatic infection.

Expand full comment

But perhaps the two are not inconsistent, because infection, incubation and spread takes place indoors where many people are in close proximity. Enclosed spaces are necessary for the airborne viral load to build up, as it takes (I have read but cannot verify) an infection load of at least 5 000 virus (virii, if you prefer) to become symptomatic. Outdoor circulating virus would be too dilute, but certainly would find their way indoors and accumulate.

But just to muddy the waters, coronavirus behave differently in equatorial regions, where there is plenty of sunlight and humidity. It is why, for example, hospitalisations and deaths increased in Florida just as they were decreasing in New York and this was used to vilify Gov DeSantis who had lifted restrictions, but it was due to the virus behaving differently in two different climate zones.

The take away is, there is a lot we don’t know (about, well, just about everything!) which is why those who talk about following ‘The Science’ and are slaves to it as if it were a book of revelations, are mentally challenged.

Indeed, I was thinking they weren't inconsistent, myself.

Couldn't agree more. Scientists != THE SCIENCE!tists.

Expand full comment

yep, I'm sure this is true. totally non scientist I nevertheless have been seeing charts for the last two years persistently showing precisely this. those are the charts we've been so often presented with by 'our side' showing that interventions did not alter the trajectory of the infections. that a USA State with interventions followed precisely the same trajectory as one (often adjoining) that didn't.

Which they showed very well. But they often showed more - they showed a higher incidence amongst the interventionist States. Not a lot. But it was there. And to my mind that fits. The masks and interventions would not be drastically deleterious but they were clearly not beneficial on the one hand and discernably deleterious on the other. They're all still there, anyone can look at them I guess. Many were from the CDC.

Today probably the easiest way to see them all would be in that book : 'Unmasked' by Ian Miller. You have to specify 'Ian Miller' because there's another one by the same title and it's about Antifa and by someone else and what do you know, google somehow finds those hits before a covid knocking book. :)

Given that the sensitivity of PCR tests can be tuned quite precisely simply by using different cycle thresholds, there's also the opportunity to make 'case' rates fluctuate as needed, or even to adjust positivity rates between different populations e.g. by using a lower cycle threshold for vaxxed vs. unvaxxed.

This "emergency request" filed last week to use it on NEWBORN infants is really frightening ! What if it is added to the required list for births IN hospitals ? Will it force more into home birthing and result in the high, turn of the century, loss of mothers and infants due to hemorrhage and other medical emergencies ? How in the world could we, as a society, even contemplate such an "emergency order" ??? WHAT EMERGENCY do these infants and toddlers face ? We have not even begun to study the "mystery" of increased heart inflation in vaccinated young men, the increased "mysterious" deaths and sudden "collapses" of young men and women, never got any clear answers concerning blood cloths, and now the unsettling reports of increased hepatitis in CHILDREN ! And in the face of not looking into any of that SCRUPULOUSLY, we now decide to run headlong into "vaccinating infants" for some imagined "emergency" ????

As the tennis great John Mac used to say, YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME ! Have we ALL COMPLETELY LOST OUR MINDS, we citizens and the "health professionals" alike ? ?

We've already shortened the average life span in the USA, lowered the GNP, fueled the flames of inflation, and now all the signs are a very green "go" for a recession ! What in the world are you doing people ? What ARE you thinking ? Rather you are democrat or republican politically, someone, somehow, MUST begin to THINK about how all this and what we are doing ! It has to be tied together. If you put out a new medication, or a new food, or a new automobile, and all kinds of strange, here to fore unseen, negatives appear and establish a new trend line, you DO NOT then rush head long into "emergency" pushing of that new medication, food, or automobile. PUT ON THE BREAKS people, THINK, be careful what you wish for, especially something to "protect" our CHILDREN ! Let's slow down and see how all these unintended, negative, outcomes shake out in another year or two of SERIOUS analysis !

Opps, that kind of thinking, based on facts and observation, is now not allowed anymore...forgot.

Can anyone remember when, even in GRADE SCHOOL, the scientific method was TAUGHT. Usually had a test on it too, and.... OBSERVATION was a MAJOR component. For the few who didn't see it somehow already, the NYT 2007 piece "Faith in quick test lead to epidemic that wasn't" is fascinating. https://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/22/health/22whoop.html

It's also interesting that we only did something like 2000 PCR tests for MERS in 2015 [1] and patted ourselves on the back for beating it. Coincidentally, in 2015, majority of the world had the largest year-over-year increase in all-cause mortality going back 20+ years. While there is typically only a +/-2% change in year-over-year deaths, nearly every country tracked by mortality.org had their highest increase since (I assume) 1918 in 2015.

https://imgur.com/a/I6BpZFO (top image % deaths increase year over year, bottom image all cause mortality).

Germany for example had 8.8% more people die in 2015 than 2014, compared to a 6.9% increase in 2020 over 2019, yet nobody lost their shit over this and I don't recall CNN having a constant chyron tracking the death toll.

Of course the all cause mortality would be nearly double that 2015 bounce when we got to 2020, I think there is a legitimate argument that had we applied the same approach to 2015 MERS, 2009 H1N1, 2003 SARS, etc as we did to 2020 COVID we would have also likely managed to kill 20% more people than usual, 80% of whom are 65+. Simply trapping nursing home patients and outlawing them having human contact should be enough to add 10%. Add in making the population fatter, stressed, lethargic, and convincing them they shouldn't seek out medical care for real conditions they legitimately have because they could grandma probably gets you easily the other 5%. Then toss in another 5% because sometimes 5% more of us die than usual.

This is what happened to the west and our feckless leaders fell right into the trap by smothering our own economies. Great job. Now things are going to get really interesting and not in a good way. Until then, pray, plan, prepare and RESIST.

What always struck me about the pandemic panic was that the same officials alarmed about "saving lives" have ignored limits on known carcinogens in our food, air and water despite cancer risk of 1:2 men 1:3 women as far back as 2005. Close behind heart disease and child hunger 1:5 kids as far back as the War on Poverty.

Sure has been a good lesson in the power of fear porn to create consensus among the masses. To help with cognitive dissonance Dubbya NeoCons stopped EPA toxic release inventory data collection.. wagers taken on WTC air quality as contributing factor.. when COVID became our most feared killer UC Davis pulled the Scorecard Chemical Safety database.. last public source of formerly public EPA data.. best thing for toxic evidence is erase it!

"Basic Testing to Identify Chemical Hazards

If an industrial chemical is allowed by law to be released into the environment, most people assume that it must have been tested and evaluated for its potential risks. Unfortunately, this is simply not true. Keeping chemical hazards under control requires information about what kinds of hazards each chemical poses.

**If the basic tests to check on a chemical's toxicity haven't been conducted, or if the results aren't publicly available, current laws tend to treat that chemical as if it were perfectly safe. **

For the chemicals being used in large quantities, Scorecard tells you whether or not eight basic types of tests for health and ecological effects have actually been conducted, based on the public record. "

PCR + does NOT MEAN INFECTION. I can't believe how many people still do not understand this simple concept.

We are EXPOSED to airborne pathogens when we breathe. In our nasal passages they get trapped in mucus & expelled, destroyed or swallowed. If that mucus is picked up on a swab & tested via pcr, with enough cycles it will test positive. EXPOSURE DOES NOT MEAN INFECTED!

You are not infected unless the pathogen gets past your innate immune system, enters cells and starts replicating.

you're positing contamination. it's not that that never happens, but it's not responsible for most PCR positive results. people who don't have symptoms, but who do have replicating virus in their respiratory tract, are a thing. this has long been known, well before SARS-2. what was novel, was treating asymptomatic positives as if they were contagious, which afaict was never contemplated before.

No, I'm posting exposure vs infection. Contamination is a different thing.

Maybe its a matter of a difference in training.

In my clinical training, contamination happened if a specimen wasn't collected correctly & maintained in a sterile environment for testing.

Exposure was if the patient was exposed to the pathogen & their innate immune system successfully eradicated the pathogen before it could enter cells & begin replicating.

We didn't call it an infection unless & until it was replicating.

"What isn’t pervasive, is virus testing." Agreed. 100%.

ALSO, you know else isn't or hasn't ever been pervasive??

A MSM, Political, and public freakout at every "positive test".

This has never been about a virus, always been about control.
