This is a textbook example of demoralization: the whims and values of individuals are nudged in a certain direction, and they're infected with subversive ideas which make them dismissive of existing norms and traditions (even when they've been living with and benefitting from those norms their entire life). This is how you can turn a large, diverse, mostly apolitical mass into a passive pressure group for cultural Marxism.

I have known quite a few gay and homosexual people, they are unrecognizable as such while in the street or store, I only know of 2 transgenders, both men wanting to be a woman. The first one years ago, was very slender, small, with fine hands and high pitch voice. He needed nothing but a wig (or growing his hair) to make a female. But recently I met a handsome man, who was transitioning. I wonder what he saw in the mirror when he looked in it - he would never, ever make a female. With his very manly chin, his low voice... how does he see himself as a woman. I feel sorry for him, because he will be an outcast in both worlds. At least he is old enough to realize - I guess him in his late 30s. It should be absolutely forbidden to mutilate or even medicate children or even youngsters - not until they are mid 20s. And not until hearing testimonies from people who did and were very very sorry. A few years ago someone had all the surgeries gone wrong, and committed euthanasia.
You know, I got my first full-time job in 1968 and left my last one in 2001, and I don't think I ever worked in a place without at least one gay person, and over the years they got freakier and freakier from a starting point of basically normal but just with a same-sex partner. Our mailroom guy at that Japanese trading company in the late '70s and his partner were maybe the most devoted longtime couple I knew.
By 2001 the concept of loving fidelity seemed to have been shoved on the trash heap because as one colleague I knew insisted, it was just sex and having a sex-sandwich with your longterm boyfriend and a new find didn't mean in the least that you didn't love each other and, well, I disagreed with that perspective. I'd've disagreed if it had been a mixed-sex throuple too.
You younger ones maybe don't even know any normal gay people at all these days. It's too bad what the crazies have done. Of course there were always crazies, of every configuration. It ain't an issue of straight vs gay but of healthy and sick and anyone can be healthy, or sick.

My cousins took me to Hallowe'en evening in the Noe Valley (Castro Street) in San Francisco in 1979. There were various goings on about town, I recall a wedding at the theatre showing Rocky Picture Horror Show. This was the year before AIDS was recognised, the gay bars around town were evident and well-patronised. I was younger then, a bit naive despite my age, and found it very oriented to fun. The few police on foot patrol were not causing any concern, although one mostly naked chap had a cape carrier to wrap him as he encountered police.
We have come a long way in a few decades. Better living through chemistry? Our lecture on newborns with indeterminate genitalia eventually got to the point- It is easier to dig a tunnel than build a skyscraper.
I was there then. Working for my sister in an artist courtyard at 1850 Union Street. I was kidded sometimes as the token straight. I remember the SF Chronical stories about the four gay men in SF Children Hospital with some strange virus, they were there because one of the doctors was an expert in virus treatment. It's sad to think that many of my friends there probably did not live that much longer.

I must confess, though, that having glanced at the pictures in your piece as well as a few of the subheadings, I realized I didn't really want to read anything on this topic. Maybe the old " a picture is worth a thousand words" came into play. Keep up the good work and the good fight.
It was just sad through and through. The writing showed just how sad it all was to great effect, but I could only skim here and there. I need to have energy to get on with my day.
As a teenager I went to the CSD in Cologne a few times. It was fun, reminded me of Carnival, but in summer. It was just a big party and I never felt unwelcome as a straight boy. I remember I hesitated a bit with the political demands, but I could see that there were still open issues. For example, gay couples paid higher taxes than straight couples. Also, we liberally used the word gay ("schwul") as a synonym for something being shit and called each other Schwuchtel in school. I never meant it in a bad way, but in retrospect I do feel a bit sorry thinking about how that could have made my gay classmate feel. But today, I'm really not sure what they want more before calling equal rights a fait accompli.
I don't need to go to a political protest fully appropriated by the government. I don't want to see pride flags on public buildings. The German flag is supposed to represent our entire people, all genders and sexualities included. I don't feel included in the pride flag. I hope this will eventually fizzle out. It's embarrassing.
However, I get why such events are fun for teenagers. Funny clothes, loud music, you can perfectly well go there and just treat it as a big party. Just call it a city festival or something like that, stop the pseudo-political gloss and virtue signalling and keep the fun and the music. That would certainly be more inclusive than channeling so much public money into the celebration of a small minority.
