Who knew that former communist Germany would become a bastion for freedom and democracy?

les's avatar

It is because they have experienced communist reality. It did NOT work.

la chevalerie vit's avatar

As the Cuban Americans keep saying.

Epaminondas's avatar

But this time is different! /s

Mr. Lawrence's avatar

;-) It has been happening for thousands of years. The theory in a Democracy is that change is peaceful, not banning parties and having tantrums.

There is the old way, when leaders and their lot were shot in a coup. Let us stay away from the good old days, shall we?

Henrybowman's avatar

Personally, I feel that's fine for leaders who have prevented and destroyed democracy and established a tiered law system, such as Ceausescu and other tyrants like him. The old saying: you can vote your way into socialism, but you can only shoot your way out.

Mr. Lawrence's avatar

So true. A peaceful transaction is a hallmark of democracy.

Yelling and protest are permitted and some are desired.

Facts. But, don't worry, much like the US, many Germans won't let facts get in the way of their indoctrination.

Ray Noack's avatar

The vast majority of people in the USA are dumb . I mean the white IQ for whites is 100 . So right there 50% have Iq less than 100 .

But whites have dwindled to 56% thanks to 1965-2024 “ open borders “ .

The mean IQ for blacks is 85 . So 34% of blacks have IQ of 70-85 with 16% between 55-70 . Hispanics aka Mexicans do slightly better than blacks but the data is light as they just keep coming and testing has now been banned . Even the SAT .

The 2025 freshman class at UC San Diego ( highly ranked ) ..60% could NOT “ round 274, 518 to the nearest hundred …60% !

Ryan Gardner's avatar

100 years ago being functionally literate in both Greek and Latin was a requirement for graduating high-school.

Now we have semester long remedial math courses in college!

Ray Noack's avatar

At Harvard . I couldn’t belive it but there it was on the website . Dumbbell math for entering minorities with no SAT score . Who needs the SAT ?it is only the single best predictor of success in college

Henrybowman's avatar

Yes, this, exactly.

Let's now all humble ourselves -- are you smarter than an (1895) eighth grader?

https://newrepublic.com/article/79470/1895-8th-grade-final-exam-i-couldnt-pass-it-could-you

(Note to Europeans: many questions are parochial to the US.)

Danno's avatar

100 years ago higher education was an achievement, not an entitlement.

Danno's avatar

When I was at university I was given credit for tutoring remedial reading and writing students. What I discovered was horrifying. Few even bothered to show up for appointments, and most of those were functionally illiterate. Oddly, the only ones motivated to improve were dyslexic -- the ones who supposedly couldn't learn. Even more oddly, they were the ones who made actual progress.

Craig Miller's avatar

Wait, I thought I heard the Democrat Marxists say recently that Math was racist? That if Devon says 3+3=9 who are we to challenge him? Now they are sneaking remedial math in the back door right behind all their unqualified and unprepared DEI admissions? Say it ain't so Ryan!

Henrybowman's avatar

"I mean the white IQ for whites is 100. So right there 50% have Iq less than 100."

But this is a meaningless tautology. 100 IQ is literally *defined* as whatever level 50% perform above and 50% perform below. If the subject population gets smarter or dumber, then the 100 point is automatically redefined to represent a smarter or dumber absolute measure of intelligence.

But yes, white people are getting dumber. "Survival of the fittest" is nature's way of improving strength, health, and intelligence. "Easy times" allow us to salvage more and more of our less-fit for the obvious sentimental reasons -- not that one can say that's objectively a bad thing, but it does have unavoidable pessimizing consequences. Then, of course, you begin electing them -- and it's pretty much all over.

John's avatar

Society is going to have to grapple with IQ at some point. Our refusal so far has caused immense damage.

Ray Noack's avatar

In 1969 Arthur Jensen of Berkeley published his landmark study on black/ White IQ ..since then we have spent hundreds of billions of dollars trying to educate the minorities yet the black/White test scores are the same as 1969 . Since then we have been invaded by Mexicans so now we have a mexican / White difference as well . also , we now have many Asians and have always had Jews who score even higher than Whites …Ashkenazi Jews mean IQ is about 112 or so .

Danno's avatar

I wouldn't say that the "vast majority" of people on the US are "dumb" due to IQ statistics alone, simply because having an IQ below 100 doesn't necessarily mean you're "dumb", and because half the population is ABOVE those mean IQs.

An elitist criticism of democracy is that it allows stupid, ignorant people to vote, to which I would counter: Don't stupid people deserve representation, too? The counterargument to that would be that this can lead to stupid people in office making stupid policy decisions which have a harmful effect on everyone. We saw this latter example during the previous US administration.

P.S. I'd like to see the results of simple math test for the FACULTY at UCSD.

Pnoldguy's avatar

I believe we can put to rest the fear that stupid people can elect stupid people. A cursory review of 2026 representation should be ample proof that stupid people DID elect the stupidest people to represent the country.

They won. We lost. Our best hope is that AOC isn't elected president in '28.

the long warred's avatar

Craig Miller's avatar

Well, there's one solution to the "homeless crisis", unconventional but hey, might be worth a look.

Calling these people "homeless" seems to suggest if you become unsheltered, the next result is you progress to live on a filthy sidewalk or garbage strewn vacant lot, unable to function and take care of yourself as you fall victim to a terrible paralyzing drug addiction and it's secondary mental illness. That losing one's abode causes this chain reaction.

"Homeless" is a big misnomer. A symptom of the actual disease.

Let's call it what it is. What they in fact are suffering, "the self imposed, drug addicted, mentally ill crisis". Who become homeless as a predictable result of really poor decisions. This would describe about 90% or more of the so called "Homeless".

The "I lost my job and became a tent camp resident due to hard times" isn't anywhere close to accurate in the vast majority of cases. Those people are clean of mind and find a way back. But not the addicted, the dopers.

I read a few days ago that overdose in just the past few years has killed more Americans than WW-2, Korea, Vietnam, combined. It's easily plausible.

The time has come to take a very stern change of direction on this problem of addiction driven mental illness. It would have to be harsh. Liberals would never go for it. So here we are.

Israel neutered him . “ Nice Presidency you got here ( like JFK ) ..it would be a shame …”

I really don't understand why the CDU/CSU don't find their balls and join with the AfD. They would have an easy majority coalition even if they lost a few voters from either aide. I have been saying the same thing for the past few years. The CDU/CSU can either by the Senior or Junior partner in a coalition with the AfD. It is their choice. Senior partner now or Junior partner in a couple of years.

David Gress's avatar

They won't. They're locked in to their terror of the AfD. Most Union apparatchiks are midwit parasites, bought by the system.

The argument that the two parties should represent opposed ideals and policies, one, perhaps, of the Right and the other of the Left, is a foolish idea acceptable only to doctrinaire and academic thinkers. Instead, the two parties should be almost identical, so that the American people can 'throw the rascals out' at any election without leading to any profound or extensive shifts in policy. Then it should be possible to replace it, every four years if necessary, by the other party which will be none of these things but will still pursue, with new vigor, approximately the same basic policies.

It is quite clear that the logical next step is to make voter-centric parties illegal.

Or possibly voting itself; I can see where "representational voting" might be instituted, in order that silly people who think they're just as good as the bureaucrats and politicians will have their votes cast for them... for their own good, of course.

Here in the United States, one of our parties is already working that way, only they call it "ballot harvesting' and "Voter ID is racist."
