How is it that western democracies keep electing such doofuses? There is something wrong with our political systems that we continue to elect such terrible leaders. Something has got to give. I think the people need to rise up and overthrow the current system, or even better, replace it with something that works better.

The people who cast the votes decide nothing, the people who count the votes decide everything. -Stalin (Allegedly)

Really ??? 🤔🤔🤔

How about the hidden, but highly influential ones who pre-filter all candidates who get on the ballot ?

The ones who count the votes just "bend" reality to their favor as a last resort in case things seem to go awry.

Anybody who is sharp is already successful and doing well in their careers and would never get involved with such abject losers as politicians. I think it's simply that the pool of people who are willing to do this and put up with this are already seemingly beyond redemption and broken in many ways. Makes them an easy empty vessel to be filled by whatever platitudes are being pushed today.

One more difficulty mentioned on the call is that a means will have to be invented to mate the Taurus with the mechanical and electronic systems of Soviet aircraft like the Su-24. The Luftwaffe say they have no idea about doing this but hope the Brits can figure it out, like they did with Storm Shadow. Somehow I doubt the Taurus will be projecting real time target data onto the Ukrainians' cockpits. I imagine they'll have some improvised Android app. Or maybe just a big red lever to pull when they sight the Kerch bridge. 😁

Yes, if the Ukraine war has showed anything, then this: the Western Wunderwaffen are overhyped, overpriced crap.

We saw that very well with the Leopards Germany makes and also sells to other countries. They all quickly ended up as smouldering wrecks at the wayside, or in some Russian war museum.

Germany makes a lot of money with the sale of weapons. Can't be good for business when it is revealed that it is all crap.

Germany just started to build a factory for 155mm shells. Not much you can do wrong with those, even our diverse German engineers will manage that. Those can be exported.

But the real expensive stuff is only for those armies who want to spend a lot of money for show, but not in real wars.

How can a party of "Greens" support gratuitous wars that cause so much damage to the natural environment?!!

Expand full comment

You're thinking of Green as in nature.

It's another Green: that of US dollars that's their focus.

Expand full comment

Please enlighten me as an American. What do "US dollars" have to do with some party called "the Greens" in Germany? Thank you!

Expand full comment

Climate scam policy (the current-day version of it) originates from the US via the various international organisations nowadays profiting from it.

Following "green" policy is the same deal as it is with DEI: if you don't, no investment opportunities, no venture capital, no loans, and no deals for you.

The environmentalist movement was captured by corporate interests in the early 1990s, and was then switched around to function as a lobbying tool for the corporations: "carbon tax" benefits both monopoly capitalists and politicians, as the cost of entry and cost of business both increases, making it difficult for new competitors in the captured market.

Also, the corporations can by keeping us focused on "the climate crisis" avoid investigation and legislation re: all the other crap they pollute the environment with, their use of child slave labour, deals with dictatorships and so on.

That used to be the focus of the media in the 1980s and earlier: shining a light on corporations who polluted and who made deals with regimes committing crimes against humanity in the name of profit.

Doesn't mean there aren't german or french or british oligarchs in on it too, but it's far easier to connect the colour of a party/movement with /one/ currency than list all of them.

The Luftwaffe by their own account haven't even begun to figure out how to wire the Taurus up to Ukrainian jets. On the leak the officers also said that even basic preparation (like scrubbing Luftwaffe insignia from the missiles) had yet to be done and that the manufacturer would have to be paid for such things. So, if there are Taurus physically in Ukraine, they're not German and they're certainly not yet usable, or retrofitting the Ukrainian bombers wouldn't be a six-month problem.

Great article! For what it's worth here in the US Scholz is getting a lot of press for being Craven and loose lipped all at the same time. Letting slip that France and the UK have soldiers advising Ukraine on Missile use on the ground was a big faux pas, letting the luftwaffe have an online/phone conference regarding top secret military issues without encryption, yikes.

Makes Scholz and his predictably moronic doltish lefties look as empty in action as they appear to be between the ears. Shoot, even Lefty media in the US is hitting them on these issues.

Regarding the riddle of the conversation, I think there are two things going on here.

1. On the Russian side, they are officially informing the world that they are aware of Western complicity in Ukraine. Now everybody knows it, and everybody knows that everyone else knows, and it has been made public in the German officers' own words, so nobody can deny it. Russia is giving notice that if these weapons show up in Ukraine and are used to kill Russian civilians, they will consider Germany accountable.

2. On the German side, the strange conversation happened because the German brass knows that the point of assisting the Ukrainian war effort is not to win the battle against Russia but to keep the theater going. Thus, the need for sensational targets. Ukraine is ever in need of more military razzmatazz that Western politicians can use to market the war effort to their constituents. The West is funding not only Ukraine's war effort but its entire government, and once that assistance stops, Ukraine collapses, plain and simple. The leaked conversation about Taurus missiles was the Luftwaffe wondering aloud whether it was time to perform the Kolvoord Starburst.
